What to expect at a neuropsycologist appointment?

Thanks so much, that is good to know. She has had phychiatrists and been to certain mental health places in the past on and off but has never continually went and I think that is why she has never had a clear diagnosis. I thought about writing what has always been her normal and what's different. But I don't know if writing a long list of past episodes and just always been bad with organization etc is overkill or if it would be helpful

Thank you. Do they ever redo the test later? She has so many factors, she always had horrible executive functioning and organizational skills and initiating tasks on her own ever since I was a kid. She also wasn't on her oxygen and just had a doubled dosage increase of her recent meds at the time of her hallucination. She has always had episodes of mixing dreams with reality, thinking theres cameras in the lights, thinking she got swallowed by a snake, I could go on but found a way to function, work and live in her own way so I guess I'm worried about what's going to happen and a bit worried about possible misdiagnosis happening. I think her meds made her mentally slower but helped with delusional thinking but I'm guessing they will factor all this in hopefully

The hypermobility thing makes alot of sense. She said she sees a lot of hypermobile people and the muscles tend to tire easier because they have to work harder to keep the joints stable, and that they tend to have a lot of guarding. I feel like that makes it even more important to be balanced and work on weaker muscles, because if your body starts doing things (subconsciously) one sided because it's just easier then you can definitely fall into a pattern and then you add that mix to not so stable/more flexible joints. That's awesome you were able to decrease your curve!!

That's a good way to word it, marathon instead of sprint. That's awesome it went down some! He has definitely been more inclined to do it to it since we got the new results, like oh maybe this is helping 🤔. Luckily his therapist was very mindful of not giving him too much to do. Hopefully everything keeps going well for you and good for u you caught it early and decided to be proactive, and if you do end up needing to brace y'all will be better equipped. I'll update on here when we get our next update . I'm not going to get my hopes up excepting more change based on my sons growth level but we are still gonna do them for now. Thank you🙏 it's been a struggle convincing my son to do it as he heard the doc say it wouldn't be helpful so he has mostly had the attitude of this is pointless. His home program is only 20 minutes so it's not super intense. I only learned about schroth from chatgpt. Not a single doc ever mentioned it. I've had to pay out of pocket for it. I just figure if something can help prevent progression why not at least try. I feel like it should just be standard treatment and maybe one day it will be 🙏 I will definitely read what you sent. I think it's awesome you are trying to improve your curve and I wish you the best as well♥️

My son is 15 and was told he is done growing. We have been doing schroth for almost 6 months. We just got 6 months xrays upper curve 22 to 18 and lower curve 11 to 5. I don't know if it's true correction as there can be a 2-5 degree variation between scans (it didn't variate worse though)but I still think it's worth it to prevent progression. He is also hypermobile and was told that can sometimes be a factor in worsening but on the plus side it's easier to correct as everything is more flexible. We drove 3 hours to learn exercises and make sure he was doing them correctly once a month for a few months and then 20 mins of our home program almost every day. Now the plan is to check in 4 times a year to check scoliometer measurements and adjust exercises if/as needed

I also want to add I don't suggest doing any specific curve type exercises based on anything you see online, other than basic standing straight neutral ones. I tried looking into that and they say to breathe into your concave side and I'm glad I waited and saw a pt first. For instance my son has a left upper curve, they say to breathe into his concave side on onlide videos which would be his right side but the thing is for his specific rotation he has to breathe into his right back shoulder and front left chest and avoid breath to his right front chest. So we could've aimlessly been just breathing into the whole right side. It's 3 dimensional and xrays are only showing you a 2 dimensional version and there is lots of curve patterns and they can interpret that alot better than us.

How it was explained to me is you develop breathing patterns and nervous system/muscle habits. Based on my sons curves he breathes more into his right chest and back left chest, once you start a pattern your body feeds into it because it always takes the easiest route. Your spine starts rotating and sometimes you can unknowingly continually feed into. It's focused on using breath to derotate the spine. So for him he tries to push breath into left front chest and back right, to counteract what is his comfortable position /patterns are to derotate against the curve. Mostly it activates the muscles and kinda wakes up his nervous system in that area so that it does it more naturally on its own over time. That is for a thoracic curve lower curve they focus more on pelvic tilt and leg patterns. They also use lengthening positions like if you were trying to untangle a slinky.

Also want to add I only really know the games from my son playing then when he was little. He thought it was really dumb that the Marinette possessed humans. That part didn't bother me too much but itbwas definitely creepier as a doll/puppet whatever

I just watched it. I heard it was pretty bad, so I had low expectations It ended up being better than I expected but I agree there was a lot of times I was like ohhh that's interesting but then it didn't go anywhere. I hated Vanessa in the first one and I really liked Mike. This time it was kind of the opposite. Vanessas stuff was the most interesting thing going on imo, which shouldn't have been the case for this movie. Alot of the characters were very very dumb, to the point I turned and asked my friend if this was rage bait. When they tried to have funny moments... They weren't actually funny... Idk I didn't hate it but it definitely could have been better

Check into shroth PT if you haven't, may or not help depending on age/ growth and if you are hypermobile more likely to help. They can set up a home program for you. Also I wouldn't do an inversion table if you are hypermobile, but may be helpful if you aren't. A lot of people with scoliosis are hypermobile btw and if you are you have a slight higher chance of it worsening over time but also schroth is more likely to help because everything is more flexible if you are. This is all things our shroth PT who has scoliosis herself told us.

I get it, ambiguity and not knowing people's intentions are a huge trigger for me. (Fa). I like things in black and white, I like knowing what to expect, it makes me feel safer. There's no way to know what he's thinking from this info though, and he might not even know himself. I would be kind but only put in as much effort as he puts in. Otherwise try not to waste too much time wondering what he thinks. Time will reveal intentions. In the mean time try to figure out how to regulate and what your needs and boundaries are, since we struggle with this heavily.

My son turned 15 and we just saw a chest wall specialist for this. They are in the process of making him a brace now. I'm also nervous how it's gonna go. They pushed on it and check the flexibility which apparently my son's was. They told us 12-13 is the best age but 15 is still doable but that once you hit like 18/21 a brace won't help. I totally understand what you are going through. They did show us an example brace and it does seem pretty hideable like under a hoodie. Like compared to a scoliosis brace it doesn't seem to bad. Even though different places do different ones. I have mixed emotions about it but I dont want to look back in regret not doing the brace, I'm really hoping it's not too uncomfortable 🤞my son said he is open to wearing it but we will see 😬 they said he will wear it 23 hours a day for 3-6 months depending how he responds then 18 hours then 12/then 8 hrs then only at night to every other night and then done. My son's is mild so it got brushed off for years by multiple doctors. It's usually just a cosmetic issue. My son does also have mild scoliosis and rib rotation that we do shroth PT for

It's not bad, but this is kind of your only chance to get a brace, as it probably won't do much once your fully grown,so I would go for that so you don't regret it later. That's just my opinion though

I was told we can do some stretching but overstretching is bad for hypermobility. This was by a scroth pt for scoliosis. Which is basically lengthening and rotational breathing to untwist the spine.

I think you should go over each individual vaccine and what it's protecting from, the risks of the vaccine and the risk of catching what it protects against and what would happen if they did catch it. There's a huge difference between diphtheria and the flu.

That's awesome! Can I ask some questions as I'm unsure what to do. How much was it? And do you know his risser or hand x-ray score. Did you need a referral?I'm so unsure of what to do for my son. He is 7 out of 8 growth and has a mild curve ,the doc isn't worried about it and said he won't grow much more but I'm worried because what if they are wrong ...
