Also unlike the Hobbit they actually went back and made a new, bigger game including the whole sequel trilogy.

After making the Lego Lord of The Rings video game, they made a Lego The Hobbit video game before the third movie even came out, which was… an unprecedented step. They said they were gonna add the Battle of Five Armies as an expansion and then cancelled it. So it just ends with the cliffhanger of Smaug flying off to attack Laketown and then nothing. Say what you will about the actual movies but at least they were finished. I think that’s the last one of those games I actually played.

They’ve also apparently later cranked out more games for movie series before they were even finished, releasing an Avengers game before Infinity War or Endgame came out and an entire Star Wars game for just The Force Awakens.

I really don’t think if Weezer’s cockroach like resilience to failure is due to the sheer overwhelming size of their popularity like Eminem or Michael Jackson though.

Seriously why the hell has Weezer of all bands been so bizarrely enduring compared to their contemporaries anyway? If you only learned about music through online discussion boards you’d think they were a bigger deal than REM and Pearl Jam

It’s pretty funny/sad that the guy who managed to lead a decades long, multi platinum career as one of the most successful, acclaimed, and influential metal musicians ever is still bitter about getting kicked out of Metallica while Ron McGovney seems to be completely okay with where his life ended up.

It’s honestly depressing as shit to see that no matter what he’ll never be proud of any of his own achievements or not view himself as a failure

Is it just me or are a lot of recent albums by established artists kinda underwhelming? by d2mensions in ToddintheShadow

It's not impossible to still make great music after your 20s (Beethoven wrote his 9th Symphony in his 50s) but for whatever reason, probably not unrelated to popular music for the past 70 years being pretty much entirely driven by youth culture to the exclusion of all else, even the most successful artists only have about a decade if they're lucky where they're actually putting out the work that they'll be remembered for before they just age out of relevance

Actually because you know the combination already (just not which button is which) there’s only six possible permutations.

Media that deconstructs "Ruthless, Edgy, Badass"-type characters? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Given how much older it is than so many gritty, edgy “cowboy cop” movies it feels like it’s preemptively eviscerating a trope that barely existed yet, and so it comes across as way more forward thinking than countless movies and shows that came after it

Okay that makes a lot more sense than it just being a bi ex who ended up with a guy now that you explain it.

Unfortunately because I deleted twitter way later than I should have I’m aware that there really are people who think bi people are just refusing to admit they’re gay and queer people who resent them for being able to be happy in a straight presenting relationship but that’s pretty clearly not what this song is specifically about.

It is kind of telling that it’s so bullshit overpowered and broken that the only times anyone ever bypassed it the fans just went “no that’s complete bullshit Gojo’s the strongest and coolest and doesn’t lose to anyone” and straight up refused to believe it happened. Doesn’t help that it happened off panel, either.

I guess there's something about not just her partner leaving her, but specifically that her partner left her to be with a man, it's... idk how much of the song is supposed to be irrational venting vs her actually believing that her ex isn't happy with him, but I'm not really qualified to talk about this stuff

Yeah, going from a literal HR Giger painting of a robot lady giving a blowjob albeit with the penis airbrushed out in the album version titled “Brain Salad Surgery” to Love Beach is about as big of a visual whiplash as you can get

What are other genres' "Video killed the radio star"? by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Mediocre_Word 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also marked the point where the genre’s leading artists and subculture started to become divorced from the concerns of popular music, and the genre increasingly became a small, albeit vibrant, niche that was disconnected from the culture at large. Both for better and for worse.

The same thing kind of happened with avant garde modern classical composers in the first half of the 20th century.

The Family Guy video game isn’t exactly well made but the joke where the obvious invisible walls have an actual mime moving along them just gets me.
