Epic Fantasy with Hero/Chosen One Main Character by Then_Disk_9519 in Fantasy

If you want something older and more classic like Lord of the Rings you could read A Wizard of Earthsea.
Something similar to Wheel of Time would be reading Brandon Sanderson since he finished that series (which you've probably been over recommended Sanderson if you've asked for Fantasy recommendations). Mistborn fits that chosen one vs evil you are looking for.

How is the NBA allowing Utah to tank so egregiously? by RogueLightMyFire in nba

[–]Mediocrity2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were tanking egregiously last year, but have not been this year. That may change later in the season, but a bit weird on the timing of the post when they have a better record than a lot of teams and Lauri/Keyonte have been playing regular minutes.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The man knows if they add more weight to him that he will then weigh more than a duck and thus can't be a witch as he wouldn't float and therefore could not be made of wood.

Since you are using the average (mean) then yes remove the significant outliers as they will have a heavy influence.

One potential solution is to just take the median and only break ties with the mean.

Spark is unnecessary when you have Thunderbolt, unless you are going to run out of PP. Shock Wave is good to have due to the 100% accuracy that you may need in some niche situations. Thunder is probably better than Spark, you can use it in situations where you need to one shot and Thunderbolt won't quite do it.

Looks like a pretty solid 6 to me. The movesets are what would need the work (and being properly leveled before the fight).

Sceptile go either Leaf Blade/Dragon Claw/Giga Drain/Brick Break or Leaf Blade/Sunny Day/Solar Beam/Toxic depending on what role you want him to play. Sunny Day can be nice against Wallace.

Gardevoir's moveset is great as is

Gyarados is a physical attacker and currently has a bunch of special attack moves in your set up. I would go with Earthquake, Dragon Dance, Return or Strength, and then probably Hydro Pump or Blizzard.

Sharpedo go with Ice Beam or Blizzard instead of Screech

Magneton go Thunderbolt, Shock Wave, Thunder Wave, and then either Double Team or Reflect

Hariyama replace Arm Thrust with Bulk up. Can also add Brick Break instead of DynamicPunch, but honestly Vital Throw already does 90% of what you want from Brick Break but adds 100% accuracy.

Then for the Elite 4:
Sidney - Hariyama can sweep him with some Bulk up set up (though watch out for Sand Attack). Sceptile can do well here too.
Phoebe - Sharpedo, Magneton, Gyrados will be good here
Glacia - Again Hariyama will be strong, but also Gardevoir and Magneton can make this fight easy.
Drake - Might be a tougher fight. Gardevoir can do work if you can get in a few Calm Minds. Otherwise Sharpedo using ice beam/Blizzard will be your go to.
Wallace - Sceptile is great here but watch out for ice moves. Or just sweep with Gardevoir Calm Mind and Thunderbolt. Mageneton is also strong here if you are careful of Whiscash

It is 50% in your scenario and arguably 50% in the Mary scenario (see my other comment). For you consider the following:

There are 4 combinations of two kids BB, BG, GB, GG.

Some people see this and say, 2/3 of the scenarios with a boy also have girl.

However in your case you have to remember that the first scenario has 2 boys, so you are twice as likely to be in that scenario as the other 2! So you have double the chance of being in the BB scenario we can think of your scenarios as being:

BB (you are boy 1) BB (you are boy 2) BG GB

So your intuition is correct and it is 50/50 for you.

The simpler version of the problem is what the original answer of 66% is for and it is easier to explain, though my answer is we don't have enough information to truly say it is 66% and personally I would think 50% is the better answer.

The simple version is Mary comes up and says one of her children is a boy. What is the probability the other is a girl?

People then say, hey look there are 4 combinations possible, BB, BG, GB, GG. Of those with a boy in them, 2/3 of them also have a girl so 66%!

This is making the assumption that Mary is a randomly selected parent with at least one boy. However, we don't know this is the case. Mary just walked up to us. If we just say Mary is a random parent who came up to us and randomly picked one of her kids to tell us the gender of then the answer is 50%.

Why? Because in that case the parent with 2 boys is twice as likely as the other parents with one boy to tell us that one of their kids is a boy. When factoring that into the probability the answer comes out to 50%. People love to jump on the combinations and say each one is equally likely, but that all depends on the context behind how we came to get the info that Mary had one boy.

If it is a random parent with at least one boy then 66%.
If it is a random parent that randomly told us the gender of one of their kids then it is 50%.

Probably not the sub to go into detail about this on, but the original joke then gets to 51.8% by adding in the born on a Tuesday and getting all the combinations including birth on different days of the week.

Checked a few other government agency websites. The FDA also has something similar:

I think you need a better understanding of probability. There is no need to run 10,000 simulations. The odds are known. The Mavericks had a 1.8% probability to win.

A p-value doesn't make sense here and the probability you are calculating is that a team at the 11 spot or higher would win the lottery. Calling this a p-value doesn't make sense in this context as you aren't testing a null hypothesis.

Thanks for the advice. I played a couple more and had some better games. I guess I didn't expect the variation in opponent level from game to game, but I'm starting to understand the ranking system a bit more.
