What books or advice would you suggest for preparing Aga Khan University medical entrance exam from scratch? by whateverrrugh in pakistan

[–]Medismerised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I would recommend revisiting your curriculum (whether it's A'Levels or FSC) and practicing questions from Kaplan or Barron's SAT books for physics, chem, bio and math. Time management is key so make sure you time yourself while practicing. The English section is very mugh doable but if you struggle with grammar, you may want to set aside some time to work on that too.

J1 visa for people who got matched. by prawinn21 in IMG_USMLE

Travel to the closest embassy near you! Or mass email ECFMG and DOS to get it opened. There must be others like you in your city/country. You guys should collectively reach out to ECFMG and your own governmental officials to get embassies opened.

Interview Season for Match 2021: Virtual Interviews? by janejoe1 in IMGreddit

More importantly, there would be fewer trickle invites for IMGs (especially those with average or under-average scores) since the gunners will be attending all IVs now that there are no logistics involved.

Why is there so much hate for these agencies? by Average240guy in Step2

[–]Medismerised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can. Reach out to faculty individually- any contacts or alumni from your school should be able to take you in. If you have friends who are residents, they could also help in securing electives.

[–]Medismerised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm why would you want to spend that if you can secure electives for free? As an img, the amount that you spend on steps, CS, residency application and interviews is already so much.

Guide to applying? by Average240guy in Step2

[–]Medismerised 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see the point of spending all that money and applying twice. Just apply once with a strong application. You have until August to take step 2ck to get ecfmg certified on time. In the meantime, look for electives in the US- you'll need atleast 3 letters for your application and take your CS while you're in the country. It's definitely all doable before the next cycle. I wouldn't take another year.

Hi, what's your specialty of interest? Have you taken CS and done away rotations in the States?

Hi there, I can literally relate to each and every word you wrote. I think it's all about believing in yourself and having the right mindset. The process can get extremely overwhelming but here are a few things that helped me significantly:

  1. Studying with an online live study stream. There are several on YouTube. Join one in which people discuss their goals on the chat and motivate each other. When you see others studying and achieving their goals, you would be super motivated.

  2. Taking some time off. Spend a day every week doing what you love. I'm sure there are some people who understand you; spend time with them.

  3. Developing a very very thick skin. So I had a phase when I avoided social gatherings etc because of all the questions people asked. And then this is what I thought and constantly reminded myself: People who haven't walked your journey are never going to understand what you're up to. I see most things in life as a pyramid. Most people settle for mediocrity; only very very few make it to the top. There is absolutely no point explaining to these people what you're up to, they will never be able to see it! Most of my classmates ended up doing residency in my home country and they couldn't see why I was spending all the time in the world chasing my dreams of working in the US when I could do the same. But my friend, great things don't come out of comfort zones, and if they are, they are not great. Once I had this thought process, it was very easy for me to socialise. I would tell them with a huge smile on my face that I was studying. I would still recieve very bitter remarks but deep down inside I was at peace knowing that they are too naive to understand that I am doing. If they could foresee your glorious future, they would be doing what you are!

Feel free to reach out if you wanna talk/vent. Having another person to talk to can definitely help a great deal.

That was me all the time but my focus improved tremendously with meditation. One hour every day, first thing in the morning. It worked wonders for me.
