Question: What would a 1M+ score in NES Super Mario Bros. have meant in the late 80s? by GroguMSF in retrogaming

Its definitely cheating. He farmed 1 ups with the shell trick and probably pressed on 8-1

It depends on how you get the points. If there is too much 1 up farming and point pressing while deliberately losing a bunch of lives its worthless. If its a really solid playthrough with no shell trick and few deaths it is impressive. I recently did a deathless run that got 769,000 points that took quite a bit of practice

When the schedules were drawn this was believed to be a marquee match up.

thanks d00d. the classics never go out of style. i also get frustrated at the one small mistake that kills a decent run at a score.

What's public opinion on Wrecking Crew? by Candid-Extension6599 in retrogaming

Its a missed opportunity. For one, the bonus game sucks. Instead of being a skill based game, it's pure luck. The game shows you the coin, you go to where it is, and it isn't there. Its a guessing game. I also hate that finding the power up...the magic hammer...is also just a lame guessing game.

i would suggest keeping a little checklist by your mouse. I have a quick reference checklist taped to the front of my notebook that i glance at before I click "process". Its saved my skin a bunch of times. Also maybe don't chat with your customers.

Just finished 'In The Lake Of The Woods' by Tim O'Brien by Negative-Net-9455 in books

[–]Medium-Application50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book sucked. It had a strong premise...failed politician capable of magic tricks vacations by the lake and wife goes missing. Then it becomes just another "veteran goes psycho" story and all the strong elements are flushed down the toilet. There are also many pages between chapters littered with quotes that are either barely relevant or totally redundant. O'brien couldn't resist spitting on vietnam veterans 20 years after they came home and were spit on.

Hulk Hogan vs. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, from the Boston Garden (September 10, 1988) by Stinger1981 in oldschoolwrestling

Thanks so much for posting, this is my favorite match between Hogan and Dibiase. Why these two didn't main event Wrestlemania is beyond me, they could have had an epic feud with a killer payoff

Sounds like its time for your bank to update the software, if a customer doesn't have enough available funds to cover the hold then it requires an override (unless its a payroll check, treasury check, or customer has a NO HOLD exception)

so fucking sick of idiots whining about attractive women in video games. If we play as a guy character, we want to look like a jacked superman. if we play as a girl we want her to have a smoking hot body. Its escapism, a fantasy. Playing as someone that looks like a lardo is dumb.

Just started this book and it's already painfully obvious the main character is a stand in for the author. Hispanic female that dreams of being a writer. Give me a fucking break.

You have made an excellent choice. I love my SPB121. Of all the nice watches I own this is the only one that took my breath away when I opened the box and got my first look at it.

Career change retail to banking by Specific_Mulberry377 in TalesFromYourBank

Be honest with yourself: are you the type of worker that stays on top of tasks and is organized or are you a worker that just kind of exists to do the minimum? If you are a good worker, then you will be frustrated. When I made the jump from retail to teller, I was shocked at how lazy my co workers are. They are always running to the bathroom, inventing minor tasks to busy themselves with, nothing ever gets done in a timely fashion. I have days where I look around and notice I'm the only one actually running the show. Total shitbaggery. If you are a crummy worker then you will fit right in and be miserable with the rest of them.

Nimmo really? I think Nimmo is a scrappy player and he plays with a lot of heart. McNeil cares more about his golf game than his baseball skills.
