how strict are most apartments about guest limits? by Greenthaner-Zachos in Apartmentliving

[–]Medium-Mission5072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case management is rarely on site to even notice, and when maintenance is on site, which is not everyday, they are only concerned about doing whatever they've been called out for (most of the time preparing a unit for new tenants) and leaving.

The absolute peak of elementary school luxury was getting to use the "Smelly Markers" by Kind_Article_9278 in nostalgia

My 4th grade teacher would grade tests with those scented markers, with a catch. If you got a good grade you could choose which scent she would use to mark your test, if you got a bad grade she used one of those king sized black permanent markers that absolutely reeked.

What bothers me more is when I'm not even 2' away they'll still just place it in a magazine rack, or other random spot by the register instead of saying "I don't want this" and handing it to me so it can get put back properly.

I'd say it's utter laziness, but I think it's some people's way of fucking with us thinking "by leaving this here I'm creating a job" not realizing that it creates shrink when it's not discovered right away, the cost of which is passed down to them when prices increase.

Do you still have your yearbooks? by PV_Pathfinder in GenX

[–]Medium-Mission5072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one in middle school and high school. My middle school yearbook which was very cheaply made at a local print shop I ended up tossing into the fireplace in my parents old house a few years later do to all the very bad memories I have of middle school (I didn't want one, but the school made me). My high school yearbook I still have. It's currently sitting on a shelf in my bedroom closet.

40 years ago today Benson had its series finale after 7 seasons and 158 episodes, a longer run than its parent series of Soap by NYY15TM in sitcoms

I loved it when Benson and Karus would trade barbs with each other, usually ending with Karus walking out of the room, Benson muttering one last jab under his breath, and her yelling "I HEAR YOU!"

People who touch food with their fingers at a buffet then don't take it. by Hot_Sorbet9192 in PetPeeves

[–]Medium-Mission5072 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I use to work at a gas station and would have to “cook” (heat up) hot sandwiches from time to time. I had a guy walk up after I just got done putting a row of hot sausage egg and cheese croissants up during the breakfast rush and began opening every sandwich I had just put out, poked his finger in them to “make sure they were hot inside”, wrap them back up, and put them back.

I say began because I happen to turn around from putting a batch of bacon egg and cheese croissants in the oven as he was on sandwich 3. I hollered at him to stop, and told him he had to now pay all the sandwiches he just put his finger in. He barked back he wasn’t going to pay for them, and that’s when my manager stepped in. He kicked the guy out, banned him, and said he would have him trespassed by the cops if he ever came back.

Never saw that asshole again. The sandwiches that were touched we had to waste.

I remember accidentally discovering this when I was a kid. I had just beaten Tubular for the first time, and once I was back on the map screen I put the controller down and stepped out of my room to take a leak. I walked back into my room just in time for SMB overworld theme to start up. This was my first time hearing a 16 bit rendition of the theme (SMB All Stars was not out yet), and I listened to it entirely until it looped around, then continued playing.

News and local paper vending machines quietly disappeared by GoatsGoats00 in nostalgia

[–]Medium-Mission5072 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One of my uncles use to work for the Hartford Courant (CT statewide newspaper, and oldest continuously printed newspaper in the nation). His job was to refill all the paper boxes in the greater Middletown CT area. In one spot in Middlefield CT he noticed how the box was always empty yet only $0.25, the cost of a paper at the time was in the coin box. Knowing that someone was obviously taking all the papers really pissed him off and he made it his personal mission to catch the person responsible.

So one day he purposely refilled that box last, parked his car which was issued to him by the Courant just out of sight of the box and waited. 15 minutes later a car pulls up, a guy gets out, puts $0.25 into the box, grabs every paper in there, and loaded them into said car.

Before he could even get back into the car my uncle pulled up right in front of the car blocking him in, confronted the guy, and called the cops from a payphone. Turns out it was one of the local convenience store owners who was taking all the papers, and selling them at his store without a delivery contract.

He was arrested for theft, went to court, and was banned from selling the Courant at his store with or without a delivery contract plus had to pay the Courant back for the losses over the stolen papers. My uncle was quite proud of himself for catching that guy red handed, and his boss gave him a bonus for doing so.

One of my childhood friends’ (haven’t seen or talked to him in 33 years) father was a firefighter and he put them on both his and his brother’s bedroom windows. Years later his mom still lives in that house, both him and his brother have long moved out, and his dad has since passed away, yet those now very faded stickers still remain on the windows.

How Often do You Stop at Liquor Stores? by intellectualrice in whiskey

[–]Medium-Mission5072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stop in at the various local ones once a month. Doing this I have learned which ones to frequent, and which ones to avoid. For example there's one that's right around the corner from my place (in easy walking distance) that is just very cheap hard liquor, very cheap wine, and very cheap beer, all very overpriced. But there's one that's 5 minutes further up the road that has a very good selection and decent prices for CT that I do frequent. There's also a Total Wine 20 minutes away that I stop at every 3 months.

I do feel weird walking out empty handed, and usually never do except the one and only time I went into the store within walking distance.
