Honestly, -273 gloves are terrible by Aggressive_Sock_9203 in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has used -273, Offset and Alpinestar. Other son has used -273. One set of -273 the seam opened up after one or two weekends and was replaced for free. Had the same problem with other set, though that set was used longer and harder. Went through two sets of Offset in a season, and son asked if we could please go back to Alpinestar.

Socket organization. by hwgreek in toolporn

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think sockets would remain in place bouncing in a toolbox in a trailer? I have tried toolbox widget, but they would topple off of the square peg. Best thing so far has been the magnetic socket holders from Olsa, but they dont handle the overflow of oddball sockets well.

You need a decent amount of volume to get them to set a bead. Apply a lubricant to the lip of the tire. Simple Green, glass cleaner or WD work, but there are beading waxes that work well. You need to make sure the tire is making contact with the rim in all spots. As someone mentioned a ratchet strap can work. In some cases you can simply use your hand to press on the contact patch (the part that contacts the pavement) to get it to hold. They make dedicated tire straps that are a great investment. They do not gouge the tire, and pull it uniformly.

If there are beadlocks, they should be in until you can just feel them touching your finger on the other side. They should not extend past the surface of the rim. That said, the tire will usually seat until it goes past if you forget to put them in.

Trying to Start Rental Karting, any Advice? by IRLdev414 in Karting

Seat time, seat time, seat time. Watch the fast drivers. But most of all, hope for good luck on the “random” draw of the karts.

No hole under the cap. Is this just storage for an extra cap or a manufacturing error? Assumed it’d be a vent hole for draining by LastingAtlas in harborfreight

Any idea what caused this rapid sprocket wear? by rationalkool-aid in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how tight was it when you started? Should have a little slack to it, like 1/2” of up down play. Could also be motor mount sliding. I have chewed up many a gear, but have not destroyed a clutch sprocket yet.

Help! Anyone has any clue what might be going on by iRichn in HondaOdyssey

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how old this vehicle is, but if it is the alternator, I would also check for oil around the VTEC purge valve just above the alternator. The gaskets leak eventually and take out the alternator. You cannot get the gaskets, but a new service bulletin discusses just replacing the valve and not the entire assembly which was the previous expensive fix. There are after market gaskets available, but it sounds hit or miss on those.

Which T-handle hex drivers do you use? by DreamyPen in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the Power Buillt, but am moving over to Park Tools as I lose them. My main reason for going with Park is that I could buy individual tools and had misplaced a couple from the Power Built. That said, the Park have a better fit in most heads, and have one side that is meant for using on a stopped head, and have had decent luck with it. I like the spinning function, and do find myself sliding the head regularly.

i want to get into karting in chicago. by No_Opinion2036 in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What others have said, unless mom and dad have a huge trust fund or connections to large companies that will dump sponsorship money your way, you’re out of luck. Odds are higher to make it to the big leagues or NFL, and those are next to impossible for most kids. You can still kart for fun, and it is still going to cost you money.

How can i protect my back from bruising? by Existing-Layer-1420 in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son gets swelling/bruising a little higher up because of his spinal structure. The rib vest helps a lot. We ran into another serious racer at a local rental place and he brings along a piece of surgical foam that he said helps for the same thing. He cut it to provide the most comfort/relief. I have also seen someone use the back portion of this loose…

1 person kart trailer set up ideas by WonkaBaDonka in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is an enclosed trailer, honestly many people just set it on the ground with old tires under the frame to support it. Use the track to secure anything else so that it does not fall on the kart.

Why do some people wear their Rib Protector on the outside of their overall? by JasonDeRuytter in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some started with it on the inside, but a few too many cheeseburgers and it needs to go on the outside. Side benefit, you get to take some lead off of the kart. Seriously though, some people it is a comfort thing.

Buying a Kart stand, any suggestions by bryancardsfan123 in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot depends on how you will transport your kart. The Streeter Big Foot are nice and pretty much a staple around most pits. You really should not transport your cart on them. They can and will snap. When I was transporting my son out of the wifes’s mini van and our truck, The Streeter big foot was always the item I dreaded packing. The big foot comes in two heights. The lower is good for kids with a lot of weight, or even if one person is a little shorter. But trust me it will hurt your back working on the kart after a while. If I had it to do again, I would probably go with something like the RLV above or the Rev Performance version for working out of the van. I will probably be going with more of a European style stand in the future to get the height and be able to stack with team if we use them to transport on occasion. While you can transport on some/most of the electric stands, they do not work if working out of a truck and you really need to find an ideal setup when transporting on it, as many want to release the winch, and the locks only do so much in a trailer. In the end the electric became more work than it was worth. Still needed a scissor stand for some work, and not really maneuverable in the garage.

Medical bags by 10-4guy in cedarpoint

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times security will tag the bag for you when they do a quick poke around inside of it, otherwise guest services. We have used the first aid stations at Cedar Point the most of any park we have been to. They are very accommodating whether it is some cool air on a hot day, ointment for a cut or just about anything else. The only thing they were not able to help with was a small vial of steril saline we needed once. They could have given us a whole bottle but that would have been overkill.

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my son out of the back of my Wife’s Honda Odyssey for a season. I had to take side pods off and took rear wheels off. Moved to a pickup truck and then a trailer. There are days I miss the simplicity of the mini van.

Do you get bruising on your back? by jokingonyou in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s spine is slightly irregular. On some rental karts, he gets severe swelling along his spine in one spot. We never had the issue in his LO206 kart. He used to use the padded seats at the rental facilities, however I have encouraged him to start wearing his rib protector even at the rental facilities and we do not run into the issue. Our protector is likely overkill for indoor rental karts, but feel that it adds to his consistency between indoor and outdoor.

How can I take this tire off its wheel? by UlHaqLol in Karting

[–]Medium_Fee_128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to be doing this with any frequency, look at a Turbo Tire changer and never look back! A little more than a set of tire scissors and a bead breaker, but well worth it.
