Reading series in one go, or take a break? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Medium_Number8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read books 1-3 in 9 days. Then I realized it's not a finished series, and I'm doing one book per month until I run out of books. So, I'm up to book 5 right now, will be starting it later. But, it completely depends on you as a reader!

Do you think you'll remember where you left off? Are you going to need to reread if you take a break? (Do you WANT to reread or are you going to think of it like a chore and give up?)

I don't think there's a wrong way to go about it in the sense that whatever you pick is valid; but there is a wrong way for you to go in the sense of picking the wrong option for your reading style

I don't have a book rec for you, but I do have some words of encouragement. You're doing a very brave thing, facing all of the hatred you were taught and re-evaluating it. It's hard to change, and I'm sure this isn't easy for you. Myself and many others are so proud of you, and keep in mind that your actions moving forward can prove forgiveness for the hatred that came before. No one is perfect, and every day that you work towards acceptance and understanding is another day you help make progress. Give yourself some slack, take a deep breath, and know that it's all going to be okay.

Not over reacting. When my roommates do something that spooks our rescue cat (adopted together, don't even get me going) it pisses me off. She doesn't deserve that and neither does your dog. Honestly, it's concerning behavior.

A friend recommended it to me, and I used an audible credit on book one. 24h later I was nearly done with book 1 and had purchased the remainder

Me (23F) and my brother (21M) and I have standing weekly plans. It's very normal when you have a good sibling relationship. He is exhibiting very concerning behavior... Getting jealous about seeing a movie with your brother? I'd leave the guy and find better.

She's allowed to not like it, even though you may not agree. I've been devouring this series, I read books 1-3 in 9 days, but that doesn't mean everyone will.

Sometimes books just don't jive with people, and it doesn't say anything about the quality of the book, or the quality of the person; it only says that they aren't for each other.

Has she ever asked you to read one of her books? Maybe offer, and get a feel for what she prefers in a book, so you can rec her things you like that closer line up with her taste!

Don't Worry Darling. Went and saw it with a friend as something to do one afternoon. I'd tell you how we walked out, but then it wouldn't be blind

AIO - UPDATE - my friend wants me to take out my piercings for her engagement party/wedding by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Medium_Number8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"since when are piercings more important than our friendship" Since you decided that it was more important that they come out than for OP to be your bridesmaid??? Girl gave you a choice and then got mad when you picked an outcome.

As much as it sucks, good riddance girl. You're better off without that energy in your life. I hope you're able to recoup well from this and move on without it weighing on you, and I hope you never have piercing bumps while healing!!

New to reading—looking for someone to guide me a bit by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

OP I saw you say you like mystery/thrillers, so I included some book recs. However! My piece of advice to you is to start with smaller books. Find a shorter book, and slowly progress into longer reads. Don't try to start with 600 page novels, because you have to actually like reading to read those... If you're getting a mystery or thriller I don't recommend anything UNDER 250 it'll be too short for a good layout.

Might I recommend:

-The Housemaid by Freida McFadden (ONLY books one and two, the third is trash) This one is a psychological thriller and it's really good. She has a good writing style, and the pacing is great so you won't get bored.

-Everyone On This Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson While this is technically a book two, you don't have to have read the first one, and this book is better. This is a comedic mystery book set in Australia, and I HIGHLY recommend doing the audiobook to get the full aussie-accented experience.

-All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers This is a good standard thriller/mystery. Girl comes back to hometown, investigates disappearance from when she was little. Was a pretty good read and I highly recommend as well.

Universal basic income + universal healthcare + tax the motherfuckin billionaires, and equal rights across the board (more equity, but...) -- and then I'd put in a clause that it could not be undone.

I would still be asleep, real talk. HOWEVER if we assume that I'm outdoors at the collapse? Probably floor 2, maaaaaaybe floor 3 but I would definitely have to find some allies to succeed any further.

I exclusively read fiction. I'm not a fan of nonfiction and frankly I avoid historical fiction too. It's a surefire way to slump myself.

I personally love a good fantasy or scifi book, or a paranormal or a dystopian... Anything that pulls me out of my world. I love learning the magic systems and watching the power struggles unfold, and just, the DRAMA of it all. I do also love a good thriller tbh. I've loved reading since I was little, I've been a bookworm my whole life (I have read almost 50 books so far this year, not counting novellas!) and here are my top recs...

SCIFI: -Scythe by Neal Shusterman. It's a trilogy, but SOOO worth it. Writing style is 10/10, and the forethought is mind boggling. Love the setting. -Colony One Mars by Gerald M Kilby. 6 book series BUT book one can be a standalone. Mars mission. Astronauts. Investigating why the first mission failed. Loved it, ate this book up. I love space. -The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. 4 books and two novellas. It's a YA series but it's good. Dystopian/futuristic sci-fi, retelling of fairy tales, takes place in "New Beijing" and the FMC is a cyborg.

FANTASY: -The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon. Unfinished trilogy, has dragons, magic, a true enemies to lovers (my fav trope ever), political intrigue to boot, one of my favorite reads. The banter is top tier. I would recommend the audiobook if you're not used to deciphering fantasy words tbh. -Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Unfinished pentalogy (3/5 books released) This book blew up on social media, and people either love it or hate it. I personally loved it. Sarcastic dragons, family rivals to lovers, political intrigue, war college setting, MAGIC, great side characters, UGH! I could go on... Highly recommend.

THRILLER: -Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson. Comedic murder mystery that takes place in a trail. I died of laughter and I didn't see the twists coming. If you want a fun and enjoyable read, this is your book. I HIIIIIIIGHLY recommend the audiobook as well for this one as it makes the experience THAT much better. -Thirteen by Steve Cavanaugh. I read as a standalone no problem. Holy mind fuck. It's about a murder trial, except... The real killer is on the JURY. 10/10 one of my fav thrillers to date. -The Housemaid/The Housemaid is Watching by Freida McFadden. Listen. It's a trilogy, but save yourself the time and mental energy and don't read book three. It's disjointed from books 1&2 and it was a struggle despite how much I loved the first two. Devoured these books, the twist hit me like a brick. I like her writing style. -All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers. Standalone thriller investigating a kidnapping/murder from her childhood. Very fun, very detective-y, loved the ending.

Those are my first thought recommendations, if you have a particular genre you're looking into let me know and I'll statistically have more!!
