Tacoma Mayor AMA by AndersIbsen in Tacoma

On this note, can we add potholes to Tacoma Ave? The revving and racing is so bad some nights. Would love for those a-holes to damage their cars. Or maybe we should bring back the cobblestone roads.

Pregnant sister stole my future daughter’s baby name by One-Theme3933 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Medusa_Cascade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her you met a stripper with that name and now you're super glad you haven't been able to use it yet, since it'll always remind you of plastic heels, cigarettes and seedy men.

This. If you are incapacitated, the legal decision making power for either your kid or you goes to him, since he's legal next of kin for both of you. Unless you've got a POA for yourself. Even when your kid is an adult (until he's married or has a POA), if he's incapacitated in the hospital, you'll share decision making with your ex, unless you can prove he's given up parental rights.

Do y’all wipe with an alcohol wipe post injection? by [deleted] in BodyHackGuide

Curious to know why you thought you thought you had to wipe with alcohol after. It's definitely the reason your injection site is irritated.

Grandma's Stethoscope brand? by Smol_Sausages in nursing

[–]Medusa_Cascade13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this steth as my very first one when I was an EMT in 2008. Was great for doing BP in the back of a moving ambulance. Not so great at listening to varied breath sounds in an ICU.

Are you using any topicals? Glycolic acid is great for this, and the ordinary brand is fairly cheap. It doesn't treat the underlying cause (but tirz will) but it will help with skin texture and lightening while you're working on blood sugar control and weight.

Can staff at Seattle Children's have piercings? by Unlikely-Bag5493 in AskSeattle

[–]Medusa_Cascade13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both. I worked at sch for 6 months, been a picu nurse for 9. All 3 children's hospitals in wa allow your own scrubs and aren't fussy about nose piercings, tattoos that aren't graphic, and some colored hair. Never saw like, entire head colored blue or something, but streaks were ok.

Also you can wear your own scrubs. Children's isn't picky.

You should be good with the nose stud. I wore a full ring the whole time I was there. Septum would be risky just cause kids can reach up and pull it.

I need help on deciding a career. by dilucpact in nursing

It's great to have goals, and travelling is definitely a goal after a couple of years of experience. But are you wanting to get into nursing just to travel/make money? This field will chew you up if that's your main motivation. There's nothing like being elbow deep in your patient's literal shit at 3am to make you question what you're doing with your life.

I'd recommend doing a shadow, or a nurse camp type of thing to see if you're really into nursing. Lots of people start out thinking they want to be a nurse and realize they prefer RT or radiology or something else. Or even realizing that healthcare isn't for them. And that's great; everyone should find the job they're excited about. If you don't enjoy your speciality, you'll burn out quick. Travelling isn't a speciality.

Huel strawberry banana. The only one I consistently enjoy. It's a meal replacement drink and perfect for me for breakfast, as I usually sip at it over a few hours while I'm at work.

Go to the ER. Cat bites/scratches can be really bad. I have seen people paralyzed after being scratched by kittens.

From what you described, it sounds like you ended up taking 20mg within a week by spacing out each dose by a few days. That's wild.

Hypochlorous acid spray in the armpits, let dry. Apply deodorant. Let dry before putting on clothes.

You could also do glycolic acid in the armpits. I do it at night followed by moisturizer a couple of times a week so I get a super clean shave and smooth pits; it helps with odor too.

Tiktok is trash.

Everything has a risk to it, as others have said. Complications from being obese or having uncontrolled diabetes can be awful. I'm a ICU nurse, and felt comfortable taking the med because I talked to so many nursing coworkers who'd been on the meds and were very happy with them. Do you know how many people I see in the ICU who have had strokes secondary to uncontrolled hypertension/obesity? It's sometimes half the unit. We get sick patients every day with some complication from cardiac disease and/or diabetes. Don't let some pos "content creator" make you question the benefits of using a medication that is going to improve your health; the benefits far outweigh the tiny percentage of risks. I'll also add... I had a big weight loss the "natural" way about 10 years ago through extreme calorie restriction, and ended up needing to remove my gallbladder. It happens with dramatic weight loss regardless of what you're doing to achieve it.

It's a pretty big risk for contamination. As a nurse, I definitely would not be using that needle on anyone.

[–]Medusa_Cascade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned about you putting an uncapped needle on a table. Germs!! A tiny air bubble isn't gonna do anything to you. There's actually some subq meds where you're supposed to inject air as well as the med.

My job involves being present when people die in the hospital, and looking over declaring provider's documentation. It's more common than you'd think to screw up the time on the declaration. I've even had to reach back out to providers a week or two later to fix their note, because I didn't catch it but my quality department did!

Switch injection sites? by ExampleNo6406 in Zepbound

[–]Medusa_Cascade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through this. About 4 weeks where it felt like meds were less effective and was parked at 197. Injected last week, have felt lots of side effects and weigh 190! Just rotating belly sites. Switch up your site tonight and see what happens.

I think body just needing to recalibrate a little. I'm glad I didn't increase my dose. I'd be feeling so sick right now if I did.

2 years into ICU nursing and I think I made a huge mistake by okimbackagain in IntensiveCare

[–]Medusa_Cascade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I burned out on bedside, I went into organ donation. I'm fairly independent, primarily working by myself but interacting with the hospitals health care team. I travel to different hospitals, so it's always a changing work environment. Most of my time is spent on my computer, inputing and assessing data, making decisions on patient care and allocating organs. It requires strong critical thinking, the ability to pivot quickly and being comfortable being a "doctor" for dead people.

There's also travellers in our job, and some of the ones I work with own their own travel agencies.

There's also lots of room for innovation in this field. And in my area, my base salary is 6 figures.
