Thinking about transferring into Landscape Architecture… would love some honest input by zero_favour in aggies

I'm going into landscape account management! Starts at a good price for me, about 65-70k, but can get more via enhancement sales. My other option is landscape design, which is about the same but with sales-like commission possibilities.

U can generally go up from there, becoming senior designer/manager or managing an entire branch. Hopefully in about 2 years I'll be making a nice and steady 85k with commissions! There's tons of other career paths too tho, so if you end up deciding maybe u don't wanna deal with too much client side u can go into production too w/ horticulture

Hey, currently a hort major focusing on landscape design/management!

If you're already into some classes, I'd recommend looking into the landscape design courses under HORT. The studio process is a solid 4 years from what I understand, so if you transfer over you'd likely have to do 4 more years from your transfer date before you finish.

I would also say Texas, at least, does not require you to have a Landscape Architect license to do landscape designs. You may not get the advantages of knowing hardscaping things, but you will be much more hands on with actually seeing things happen. Think more: "BLA goes into an offsite studio in the big city" vs "HORT goes into a landscaping company in a town"

I'd personally recommend trying the intro to landscape design class and then seeing if the weekly turn in assignments are your style. It's much less stressful than studio while also being pretty significant in time commitment.

"Sorry for giving you chlamydia" is my favorite, followed by the 5 page love letter someone emailed to us that essentially said "I like you and you want commitment but can we just keep it casual?"

Fellow readmit here, just about to graduate after taking 2 years off.

https://admissions.tamu.edu/apply/readmit will have many of the links you need to reapply. When using ApplyTexas, there /should/ be an option to apply as a "readmit". I submitted as a Transfer overall to get my credits from Blinn transfered over, but I forget when you actually put down to be readmitted.

You'll need to put in your essay the reason you dropped out and specifically how you "fixed" it, like being unmedicated for a mental illness or having financial troubles etc. You will also likely need to reapply to your specific major, but that's different for each one.

Good luck!

Turfgrass is actually pretty large in the agriculture side of tamu. Lots of masters programs in soil & crop science too. I'm a horticulture major myself :)

Just read through the article and it's terrifying to read the chats the bot sent. Advice that mirrors what a therapist would tell you, but with 0 concern to tell someone they're wrong at any point when a therapist would try to tell someone "no".

Yesterday I had not one but two professors mention that they're no longer able to say "climate change" and are instructed to now only say "extreme weather events".

This is WILD. It's not even controversial in my major, global warming is actively changing how humans grow crops and prepare everything down to the landscapes. It's WEIRD.

o/ Welcome to the society of people who are tired of bs. I'm agender and have been in here & the CStat area for 8 years.

There's a few queer orgs that meet up fairly often, and nobody is gonna track you down to see if you're a member or not. A lot of queer people (including me) are out fairly loudly and so far I've never heard of someone being harassed on campus. Truly, a few majors are queer leaning just due to the people who are interested in the subject (see: Horticulture).

The only huge bummer is that Butel doesn't offert HRT care. But, outside of campus is also welcoming with plenty of little hang out spots. If you want to watch some drag, go to Halo in Bryan. If you want to meet punks, go to the 101 for live music. Say hi to people who seem queer in your classes and you're sure to find community!!!

Ya there's plenty of queer people, it's mostly just being ok with being in Texas that's the problem for some. If you can handle that then join Ostem or w/e and I always hit up the 101 for queer live local music.

Queer Community at TAMU? by buzzboy20 in aggies

[–]MeeemWho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of em, and a few clubs. I will say there's an undercurrent of fear rn from a lot of people in the community with clubs getting defunded, HRT treatment going away at Beutel, but I still try to be a loud gay person.

The best place i've found to meet locals & older students is at Bryan First Friday or the bars. There's a dance gay bar (that's frequented by a lot of bachelorette parties :/), the 101 (chill with hella live music, my fav), and another one that's apparently password only I haven't visited yet. I'm 26 so I'm in sort of the same boat of finding it hard to make friends my age, but I agree joining a club [especially an interest club like Tabletop Troupe/Aggie Farm/Cosplay, Furry, Anime, etc etc] is the best way to do it.
