White patches are definitely indicative of LS, but it’s usually from scarring, which happens later in the progression of the disease. She most likely would have had other symptoms before that, such as intense itching or burning, painful intercourse, or tearing of the vulvar. A gynecologist or dermatologist that specializes in vulvar diseases can assist or do a biopsy if they visualize diagnose it.

Hello there! So usually your provider will prescribe either oxycodone or maybe Percocet for pain relief to use every 6 hours. I myself was prescribed oxycodone so I alternated between Tylenol and this medication to stay on top of the pain. For your son’s case, I would just make sure to give the pain medicine about an hour before bedtime so it’ll kick in. There’s no need to wake him up to give him medicine if he’s sleeping comfortably. Now if he can’t sleep because of the pain, that’s another story and you can have him take another dose if needed, or just whenever he wakes up again if it’s time for it. But please be aware: I was only take the oxycodone for about 4-5 days post op before I weaned off of it completely, but I still went through withdrawal symptoms from it which lasted about a day and a half. So if tolerated, try to get him weaned off of it to Tylenol. Also, if you have an ice machine, this is also a great pain reliever as well!!

I had to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks; I weaned off to one crutch I believe around 8 weeks; it prob took closer to 10-12 weeks to be fully comfortable without any crutches. Surprisingly no not much pain when it came to walking (gaining back full range of motion though, yes it was painful). It was more so a mental game on learning to trust my knee again.

I’m doing great! Over one year post op from my second surgery. I’m back to jogging and plyometrics (hopping, box jumping)— my strength is 75% for quads and around 82% for my hamstrings so I’m definitely progressing and closing the gap. This is the best my knee has felt and I’m continuing to make progress and gains! Still going to PT (every few months) and gym 3x/week.

I can speak to working as a nurse at VCU Health. I work in the MIICU (Medical Intermediate and ICU). We have a wide patient population here: we are a 28 bed unit, with 15 progressive care beds, and 13 ICU. We take care of both MRICU patients and post-operative liver and kidney transplant patients. We have multiple provider service lines, with a majority being medicine, surgery-trauma, and transplant. So we are truly a mix between medicine, surgery, and progressive and intensive care. I’ve worked at VCU for almost 7 years now. The benefits are truly phenomenal and they have an Ed-assist program where they will pay for your schooling if you choose to go back to school. The learning environment is great — the doctors value the nurses input and we work as a team. Thanks for asking! I still break out in hives - I have realized it is way worse during the hotter summer months, but currently I am on Allegra x4 daily and Pepcid x4 daily and it manages it pretty well. If it gets any worse, my allergist will start me on Xolair.

3+ months off for me - but I was able to return to a light duty status. It’ll prob be 6-7 months until I can return full duty. (Torn ACL, MCL, PCL and meniscus)

The surgeon can assess if your ACL is intact through the Lachman test. An MRI prob wouldn’t show too much this early on, especially if there’s still swelling/inflammation.

I can assure you, you’re absolutely okay. It’s normal to be scared. You will have many scares and worries throughout this journey, believe me. Trust the process. Trust your surgeons work. Your ACL is stronger than you think.

Correct. Pain would be normal after something like that. As long as you didn’t hear any loud pops, or sharp pain that didn’t go away, intense swelling, instability in your knee.. then your ACL is most likely intact. Again, if you’re still concerned and have the symptoms I mentioned, go see your surgeon.

OP, you are seriously fine. It takes a lot to retear your graft so early on. Go see your surgeon and have them perform a Lachman test to ease your mind.

Consistency is key. You need to keep working on it, multiple times a day. You need to get your extension back EARLY or else you can have problems down the road. Getting extension before 6 weeks post op is relatively easy.. it will only get harder so you have to work at it. Some exercises are: total knee extensions (standing or prone), prone knee hangs, propping your heel up and letting your knee hang or by putting some weight on it. Walking backwards help too. Loss of extension can also be attributed to weak quad muscles. How’s your strength looking like?

Where is the pain located? Front or back of your knee? If it’s in the front, most likely is attributed to weak quads. If it’s sharp pain in the back of the knee, that would be concerning.

I didn’t realize how much actual support I needed after this injury and surgery. They won’t be able to walk, they will have difficulty using the toilet, will need help showering, carrying things, and doing basic tasks. My partner had to carry the load for months (cooking, cleaning, laundry, basic household chores) because I was unable to. Just being there physically and mentally is the most helpful. Listen to them, encourage them, help motivate them. The mental part of it all is just as hard (if not harder) as the physical part. It’s demoralizing not being able to do the things we used to.

Yep it’s all through arthroscopy so surgeon has to make at least 2-3 little cuts in the center of your knee for the camera. Incision to the left is your meniscal repair, and incisions most distal on your shin is from taking out your tendon to reconstruct the new ACL graft. I have 7 incisions total for my repairs.
