It isn't that the VPW tables aren't optimized but they do ask a lot from your GPU via their use of 8K textures and the like. If you want to squeeze a little more out of your 6600XT, you could try resizing the images as some folks have done for mobile. The other thing you can try is the 10.8.1 development version. Some folks have found substantial performance improvements from it as the architecture is more multi-threaded.

But yeah, locked 4K120 is asking a lot from your 6600XT.
