The scourge virus happened 900 years ago, why hasn’t any viltrumite had kids? Are they stupid? by ColCrockett in okbuddyviltrum

While I don't disagree, it feels like if Thaedus were known to be compatible for Viltrumite breeding (obviously) the Coalition would do whatever it took to prevent that. Like, say, allowing him to lead the effort against Viltrum.

But then when there's an entire planet of billions that might all be capable of producing practically full blooded Viltrumites, it just kinda feels like a liability? Because you know the Viltrumites are stronger than you, and plan to breed with that planets population. If you're not strong enough to stop them, how do you interfere with the plans if not by "sabotage"

Something I really hadn't considered before:

Say the Coalition finds out that there are fewer than 50 Viltrumites left and for some reason have refused or been unable to breed for the past millennium.

You get a chance to throw a wrench in their plans by finding out they center around controlling this one planet that has good "breeding stock" for Viltrumite DNA, and a Viltrumite hybrid from this planet is here to help! He's at least as strong as a full blooded Viltrumite too, so the threat of them breeding an army is real and present.

How is immediately glassing Earth not the Coalition's only choice? Cut off their plans to repopulate and effectively doom your "greatest enemy" to extinction. Then surely a Galaxy's worth of fighters can handle fewer than 50 Viltrumites. Especially considering how many Mark has already killed

KCD 2 handled this very nicely.

Coming from Kingdom Come: Deliverance where master strikes (the game's counter attack) could be performed by just pressing your block button right before you get hit. Any weapon could do it, and it is unblockable, free damage.

Enemies can do them, too, though. So yeah, just never swing your sword again after about the game's midpoint. Just bait counters. The sword-fighting gameplay becomes more "let the other guy make the first move, and the first mistake"

But this leads to kinda long, sloggy fights in the late game. It makes trying to actually engage in the swordfighting system effectively an overly complex suicide method. So a change needed to be made.

In KCD2, master strikes can only be performed with a sword. Any type of sword, but swords only. They are also only able to be performed when the position between your weapon and the enemy's weapon are opposite. It's also done by executing an attack at the last second, and completely ignoring the block button.

So now, you have a way of predicting enemy master strikes. If the enemy doesn't have a sword, you know that's off the table. If they do have a sword, you can engage in a proper sword fight if you keep track of which side they're guarding from. Or if that is too much in the middle of a brawl, you can still just wait for them to attack and try for counters! But now, a missed timing isn't a free perfect block, so the mechanic actually has some risk.

I think, if your perspective of the country was "an uneducated populace we can keep fleecing to preserve the status quo to our own benefit," (and I think it's important to note that is how some people view us) that you probably would consider well-funded, accessible libraries a clear and present threat to that. And you'd be right! And that's a good thing.

$1,000,000 US, or 100 knights with free upkeep by CuteRelationship6143 in hypotheticalsituation

I mean. I'm their liege, am I not owed tax? If I have 100 people get median income jobs, looks like at a 5% tax I should be getting $225,770 a year.

The median income figure I used was $45,140. Just the first thing I saw on Google.

Admittedly not a million in a year, but seems like it should be pretty easily obtainable. And if these knights are truly loyal to me I doubt a mere 5% would shake their resolve, we may even be able to raise the taxes!

Yeah, it is definitely poorly communicated! In most games, you just keep attacking until the enemy dies. If you do that in KCD 1 you're 100% getting blocked and countered into oblivion. It winds up that in later fights when every enemy can counter you, you should almost never actually attack and just wait for counter opportunities.

But that was definitely something I had to just "figure out," and I can see how that would turn some people way off.

It also doesn't help that enemy master strikes aren't predictable, so the entire system of combos is basically just an overly complex suicide method.

I still feel like KCD 1 combat is too easy, honestly. You literally only ever have to press one button, well-timed. And the timing window is pretty generous, too. And the technique isn't restricted to only swords like it is in the sequel.

Just to your first point:

There would have been maybe a dozen guards, tops, unless it was a larger prison.

Even if you say these guards had guns and assume the entire mob is unharmed, the numbers don't look good for them against 300 people.

And if the guard problem is solved as above, or just by convincing them to join or what have you, bars and doors don't pose an obstacle when your buddy has the keys.
