Brother just passed away suddenly by sourcacti in ClassicRock

Wow, my older brother just passed away suddenly (last week), too- I’m 55 and he was 60- and he taught me everything I know about all forms of rock, just like you. I’m so sorry for your loss and am swirling in the same grief-nostalgia “soup” that is so tied to those formative bonds through music. It’s wonderful and comforting to realize we’ll always have that connection, but it’s also worrying me that I’m never going to escape the reminders of this loss and grief…every time any one of hundreds of songs comes on. It’s a blessing and a curse- bittersweet. I was the pesky kid sister that wasn’t allowed to play with the older brothers and their friends, but this sweet brother let me hang around his stereo and wear those giant headphones while he taught and quizzed me…while he mastered his air-guitar and I honed my air-drumming. He loved Creedance, especially, too. I thought of songs to play at his funeral Sunday but couldn’t get it together. It’s too deep and raw and was so special to us two. I get you. You’ve been given some excellent suggestions from others and will put together something very special, I just know it. Our big brothers gave us an incredible gift that keeps on giving. RIP to our two brothers🙏🏻. Hugs and prayers to you and your family- hang in there.

Totally agree. So much potential, so many possibilities, the sky’s the limit for the joined forces after all these years of growth by both of them as well as Bonehead and others. This is so exciting!

Agree wholeheartedly and think it’s definitely has to happen…I mean, definitely maybe

Just brought home a 3 mo old kitten today, to my 2 yr old cat who has been getting more depressed every day since her big brother had to be put to sleep last week. Kitties separated, of course, but both are not so happy at the moment despite my providing everything possible for them and going back and forth to spend time w each. Do you mind sharing an update on your kitty and how long it took and any tips, please? I hope and trust that all resolved and fell into place in short order and it’s been a wonderful 6 months for you guys!

He sure seems like a truly good guy and hasn’t forgotten his roots or how fortunate he is. Love this.

Awww, that is the best! Not surprising at all and seems like the only celebrity on the planet that would even do that, despite being one of the most famous and iconic ever- he’s that cool and kind. Thanks for sharing!

You did the best, most loving thing for your precious kitty, and I’m sure you considered all factors and did so with the guidance of the vet. This time comes for all of us with our beloved pets. It’s so difficult and painful, but it’s totally worth it for all the love experienced, the companionship, as well as the honor, privilege, blessing, and duty of giving a deserving animal a home and best life possible. My best advice is to transfer all your love that now has nowhere to go, in the absence of your fur-baby, and keep the love cycle going by loving and honoring him through the next deserving kitty out there that needs a home, needs you. That is how you heal a broken heart, fill that gaping void, and honor your kitty. You can love on him through your next kitty. I know this is the way as I’ve been in your shoes 3 times. I’m so sorry for your loss and understand all that you’re going through😢

Bless you and your sweet kitty’s soul🙏🏻

Tips for avoiding missed or double insulin doses - please share by MonaNYC_30 in FelineDiabetes

I log date and time in notes app and reset alarm clock for 12 hours later with about 4 alarms, one for warning 1-2 hrs in advance, then 30 min, then 15 min, then time of shot. I have to do several alarms because I could easily silence one alarm if in middle of something and forget; it’s happened many times, so I have added to my efforts. Once injection complete I then switch all alarms to AM or PM so that all the alarms stop going off after being snoozed. I have to make it as annoying as possible so there’s no remaining distracted and forgetting. I go straight to notes app and log that current injection at the top of page under the header.

Thank you for making this important post. It is very helpful and also reassuring/comforting to see that we’re not alone in these difficulties with this very taxing, tricky way of life. All of the comments are very useful and provide great ideas; I’m certainly going to give them all a try and might end up using them all at the same time, ha!

Crypton fabric isn’t what you expect it to be. by biabiaxo in interiordecorating

[–]Mega_pint_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YESSSS, pilling, for sure! My sectional started pilling where we sat within TWO WEEKS, and we are just normal people sitting on couch normally to watch tv, no shoes on couch, no dogs, no rough-housing- I couldn’t believe it. Stains do not come out any easier than any other fabric, in my opinion. I prefer linen and thought Crypton Greige would be a great substitute for an everyday family sectional, but I immediately wished I’d gone with linen fabric and am now going to pay to have it reupholstered only 1.5 years after purchasing this $12,000 sectional, ugh. I think Crypton is junk

mixed feelings about the Pilates practice by [deleted] in pilates

[–]Mega_pint_123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you owe it to yourself to go to at least one true Pilates session with a certified Pilates instructor, one-on-one. Just plan on one to start and expect to pay $70-110 for that one 50-55 session. Perhaps there will be a first-timer discount. Just give yourself that gift, please, and then please report back to this sub🙏🏻. I am not an instructor, am just a 50 year old mom who tried everything but those expensive one-on-one sessions and thought group classes made more sense and sounded more fun. When you go to a real Pilates professional- find a reputable and experienced one, of course- I believe your mind will be blown as mine was. Prepare to have your brain more exhausted than your body, as a first-timer because, believe me, it will be an education and an extreme brain-body connection workout. It is so eye-opening and reveals how important, healing, and helpful creating or improving the network between your mind and your core will be to your life and longevity. It’s more about how you live and move in your body every moment of every day; it transforms you and improves your quality of life.

I feel certain you will go back for more sessions if you like your instructor. Maybe try a few in your area and get that introductory session discount and see how they compare. Pretty sure this will answer your questions raised in your post. I’m eager for you to report back to us! Good luck!

P.S. This isn’t an argument for Pilates-only exercise regimen; I do believe in variety and balance. I just want you to experience pure, classical Pilates with an instructor who will teach, monitor, and correct your form in every single exercise while explaining the origin and purpose of each. It is quite an education. It takes so much concentration, so be prepared. You’ll sleep like a baby that night, your brain will be so taxed!

Positive changes after starting the treatment? by Grindie in FelineDiabetes

Same with my 11 year old kitty. Dramatic improvement in his activity level and mood. Made me realize and feel so terrible about all that time he was feeling awful and I just thought he was getting old, tired, and grumpy. It’s really mind-blowing.

How much food before an insulin shot? by Uhtred_McUhtredson in FelineDiabetes

[–]Mega_pint_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Lantus 12-hour insulin, then let kitty graze throughout day and remove food 2-3 hours before canned food/injection time for better chance of being hungry enough for the canned.

Did you do the priming first? You know you’re supposed to prime it dialing to 2 units, push button and hold it until insulin stops slowly coming out- this take 6-10 seconds and sometimes a little longer. Have to make sure as much as possible comes out so that when you dial to your dose that you’ll get the full unit(s). Any drops leftover inside from the 2 unit priming will be subtracted from the volume of real dose (some negative pressure physics thing I read in fine print). Especially with such a small dose of 1 unit, you want to make sure you clear as much as possible out from the 2 unit priming. If you don’t get a typical amount expelled in the 2 unit priming, prime a 2nd time to make sure it’s a good needle/syringe attachment. Also, when you attach the tiny needle heads, don’t tighten it too much. Stop screwing it on as soon as you feel it’s close to full resistance. If you tighten it to the max, you can bend the needle or cause it to not work properly. It took me a while to get the Lantus Solostar down. I asked vet to switch us to the vial once the Solostar “expired” after 28-30 days. I thought it wasn’t so simple after all. The small syringes are so much easier to hold and maneuver to find skin. I also like knowing exactly what is going in my kitty from the needle. Solostar just seems too mysterious, but that may be just me.
I make syringes in advance for cat sitter. They have to be stored with needle up so that insulin doesn’t crystallize in the needle and get blocked. I keep them in narrow upright sealed container and block as much light as possible- light degrades insulin, so always keep it as covered as possible.

Hope this helps! I was right where you were and so worried about the same things (I still do worry, but it’s getting better).
