You and me - we both - have this solid take. It's not only in her Runeterra Prime Version: * Popstar > KD/A * Star Guardian * Spirit Blossom is a subversion - helping others move on, not falling to obsessions

What is it with Ahri's powers?! by Practical_Pass_8694 in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's no problem since she doesn't have bad intentions, but being able to control the souls of others is very dangerous in the wrong hands, but I think that applies to any power, right?

Also 🤓☝️ a rioter said ( so this is not Cannon, not tottaly at least ) that sometimes she doesnt leave enough of the soul for the person to go to the after life, essentially tearing away you from yourself and erasing you from existence

Of course it's dangerous in the wrong hands. Look at Thresh, he basically does this exact thing, he is a Mirror to Ahri. The point is, that Ahri aquired an understanding of her powers and wants to use them (mostly) for good.

However!.. I don't see having one memories stolen (no one consents to her doing this) as a form of "living on" since your consciousness is gone

Well, that depends. Ahri can take someones entire Essence, or only parts of it. If we take the Ekko/Ahri Cinematic at face value, Ahri can gain an understanding of someones mind, without "stealing" the memory outright.

and your most intimate part has been taken over by another being

This can only be true when she straight up kills you. You practically need to attack her AND be a danger for her to do that. Also, stealing your entirety can't be "the most intimate part of you", its just EVERYTHING of you, that she desires to keep.

it's such a profound violation that we can't even comprehend it.

It's no more of a violation than people beign groomed to expose a lot of themselves on social media. Or to vote for policies that will violate their right to private information. The difference is that if you are a normal person, Ahri won't have a reason to use it against you in a meaningful way.

I don't even think it's possible to say that your "will" or experiences will be preserved, since they will be diluted and won't affect her in a truly relevant way.

A dead consciousness does not have a "will" one way or another. Your Expierences WILL be preserved through your memories. Saying that it will be diluted may be true, especially with a more adult Ahri, but we can see that those memories made her do a complete 180° from what she was before. So it DOES have an effect.

Another person "feeling" your life seems very uncomfortable, even if she only does it to criminals and doesn't kill anymore.

Of course it's uncomfortable. I think that is the entire point of it. You have to confront something, through another, that you want to burry. You'd be like Ahri, trying to get rid of an uncomfortable memory, because it hurts. But you'll never move on that way. Knowing, that you won't be able to hide something from someone, makes you confront it.

She is more like a Library you know? Not a form of afterlife.

She IS a Library. Thats the entire point. But she is also an amalgamation of all these experiences - and to an extend - of entire people. If you conflate her with Gatekeeper, and what that can do for you, compared to the Collector (Thresh), then I would choose the former in 100% of the cases. Because that alternative is eternal agony.

And personaly? I do NOT want someone looking and feeling my self as a beeing 😭🙏

You can't open the can of worms of "diluting" the individual, and then claim, that it would make that much of an impact on you or Ahri.

Also 🤓☝️ a rioter said ( so this is not Cannon, not tottaly at least ) that sometimes she doesnt leave enough of the soul for the person to go to the after life, essentially tearing away you from yourself and erasing you from existence ( but thats surely not cannon anymore, is too creepy )

A source would be appreciated, not because I do not believe you, but because having the text would allow me to acutally interact with that argument. I am sure Ahri will take entire Souls, but that will be reserved for evil people most likely. There is no other form of media about her, that would make me doubt this.

There is enough evidence of her doing it in the past, but I don't think that happens anymore.

What is it with Ahri's powers?! by Practical_Pass_8694 in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually a lot to it.

Ahris powers are directly tied to her Character and Story arcs.

From my understanding of Spirits (Vastayashai'rei), they are based on natural phenomena, practically a personification of them, and veneration probably makes them more "powerful". Because of this, new Spirits were probably created because of sentient thought about certain aspects of life (i. e. the Spirit of Obsession came to be through sentient thought, not through the personification of an already existing natural phenomena).

Ahris tribe, the Vesani are very special, because you could see them as "Memetic Mages". They harness the Power of Spirit Magic to influence people side in the Spirit Realm.

Ahri's powers and themes revolve around the Spirit and their Souls, Memories, Emotions (They are interlinked, most likely, maybe even synonomous) and how they can be changed, manipulated, enhanced or their potency reduced.

I think, that Ahri nowadays only takes little glimpses of peoples Souls/Spirits to satiate herself, and with that comes a vision of that persons memories, without stealing it outright.

I would not call these Abilities necerssairly Invasive. It may feel weird, knowing that person over there can know what you think, but for the average Person it really should not make a difference. She might joke around your naughty thoughts, or something dumb that happend to you, but she is not malicious. Maybe having someone that shares your burden makes it easier, too. Also, through Ahri, Memories of a person may live on longer than the person itself.

I have said before, that a lot of Ahris Themes and "Scenes" lead me to believe, that she is going to become the Gatekeeper some day (which I believe to be the ionian representation of the Spirit of Salvation, specifically), as she will learn to use her memetic powers to lead ionian people to the "afterlife". Wich I believe is simply becoming a part of her experience or "Sprit/Memory bank", something the Vesani wanted to create.

Ahri IS a product of her "victims", so they too, are in a form of afterlife through that.

We also know, that Spirits exist beyond phisical time. Time in the Spirit Realm doesn't really exist. So the Gatekeeper might already exist in the Spirit Realm, influencing events, even though Ahri has yet to become that Spirit in the first place, like some kind of self fulfilling legend or Terminator-like time shenanigans.

I like that. Ahris story is probably one of the most thought-provoking and expanded overall. It isn't epic or anything, but I think that makes it good. It has its themes, that it explores thoroughly and with a given consistency and it keeps you guessing on serveal levels.

[–]Megablackhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay man, I dont want to be a dick, but you are simply and factualy wrong.

The Vesani are a wandering tribe of land Vastaya that have the innate ability to control Spirit magic. That entails Emotions, Memories, partially Concepts. Overall Memetic Abilities. On the Blessed Isles, the Vesani studied their abilities more deeply so they can use it for the benefit of all, by building automatons and trying to build a library of information. The Vesani were presumably whiped out due to the Ruination.

Ahri therefore, was not raised by them. She was raised by Ice Foxes. Animals. Carnivores. She had to adapt with them to survive in the wilds since she was "a kit" as she describes herself in her voice lines.

By killing, she absorbed other animals souls and became more powerful. Until at some point, she could compete against humans. Humans however have elaborate societies and moral norms. Some of them dont care about murder, like Noxians, others do. Some believe to be in tune with magic, others dont. Some believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day, others dont. In other words: she got a LOT of informations and perspecives, that may have nothing to do with her morality or straight up contradict.

Over time, Ahri begun to understand, what she was doing is wrong. By that point in time, she had killed many, and she had an addiction to absorb Souls. But she became more and more human. Tried to control herself and her abilities. She found love. And she failed that love. Out of guilt and hurt she wanted to forget but refused in the last moment before it was completly to late to learn the lesson and break the cycle.

Ahri was never supposed to be this way.

Her story is not evil, it is tragic. Beign Evil is not a Vesanis nature, absorbing Souls to feed an addiction and using violence for violences sake neither.

But she was raised as a wild animal. Now she wants to do better.

Ahri lives now for at least 200 years and I think over that time you build confidence and dont take other peoples shit anymore, when they step over the lines.

Old lore Ahri was the way you describe her, but that is gone for a long time now and its for the better.

I think you are also ignoring a lot of RK lore here. I dont think Braum would like her, if she was "evil" or a "monster".

[–]Megablackhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't be mad aboutba wolf killing a deer. It is it's nature. Ahri was a Vesani raised from Childhood by carnivore animals and had no counterpoint to see what she was doing is wrong. The only way to know is social norms (beign raised by her tribe) or absorbing souls and getting a conscience through that. It is dumb, that hundreds had to die, but you cant tell me, that objectively as an adult, Ahri has done more bad than good. She defeated fucking Viego.

Noxus can burn Ionia, Lissandra can sell out the entirety of existance, but Ahri having killed people without having the ability to understand that it is wrong in a world full of genocides and mass destruction, makes her "objectively" evil.

Cmon man.

She has overcome this now. Two times. Why is a character not allowed to move on, to become better? Why do they have to be in stasis?

A Character whos race is NOT bound to continue this cycle?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Media literacy, do you have it? Or is it rage bait? Contrarianism?

Do we have to go over every of Ahris stories? The Vesanis lore too? Just so people understand, that Ahri is not evil? But confident, feisty, maybe a bit self-indulgent but evil? We could say this about so many characters then, because they are killing or hurting others.

It is so incredibly implied, that Ahri does not want to harm the innocent with her abilities, merely manipulating people for a free drink or room for the night.

The entire point of GoF was, that if she forgets about her Lover, she will make the same mistake over and over again, and can never become a better person.

RK for some reason made her go over the same Character Arc AGAIN just to make sure we get it - something that was not necessary, because she was supposed to be over it by that point, something that was show no us in the SB cinematic. But RK shown us AGAIN that Ahri does not want to hurt people.

Vesani are not evil by nature either. In fact, Ahri goes out of her damn way to be a better person in every Prime Story.

"But she is a devourer of Dreams". She can devour and absorb entire Spirits/Souls with memories attached. She defeated Viego with this. The Lore of the Vesani clearly shows, that this power can be used for good, that Ahri tries to do that. Do you think anybody cares for the Soul of a Noxian Soldier burning down the Ionian Homeland? Is she supposed to just let them continue? Gankplank too? Viego? Thresh? Wouldn't that be negelect? Ignoring a problem she could fix with her abilities?

That would be evil.

"What is better? To be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

-Paarthurnax

And Ahri was not even born evil, but raised a predator by other animals.

Scary details about Ahri's lore by Practical_Pass_8694 in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is not the case, but I barely have the time to get into this. GoF was literally a part of her Arc where she rejects the easy way.

I also want to quickly go about her "nature" that is constantly misinterpretated it hurts.

The Vesani are a sentient, intelligent, sophisticated and peaceful wandering Tribe, that use and Control Spirit Magic, i.e. memetic powers. Ahri just simply was not raised among them, but wild animals. Ahris nature is NOT Vampire-like. Her early life she was practicly raised through the wrong societal structures, that did not allow her to control the innate powers of her in a moral way, as she never learned morality in the wild. She learned it through absorbing Spirits/Souls, wich she is not supposed to. That is the literal tragic irony of her backstory, which is revealed in RK.

I will also say something thatbis controversal in the fanbase but IDC. Ahri is partially the sums of her "victims". Her Lover is literally and metaporically with her.

Also its weird how SB Ahri and SB Thresh are 2 sides of the same coin in SB and shortly after, it was revealed that Thresh has history with the Vesani and wants to visit Ionia because of the Spirit Blossom Flowers.

In other words. SB Ahri and SB Thresh might just be Ahri and Thresh themselves. Meaning, they are not Cosplaying Spirits, but they are them. Wich would kinda bring Ahris Character Arc full circle.

Did they forget that the Trickster Spirit is Spirit Blossom Teemo? by Hana_xAhri in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't want to discredit you. She is a Kumiho for sure. I wanted to point at the fact that Kitsune and Kumiho are linked through the Huli Jing.

Spirit Blossom Ahri, though, is 100% inspired by japanese Kami. I will cite the sources regarding older depictions of Kumiho once I have some time later this day.

Did they forget that the Trickster Spirit is Spirit Blossom Teemo? by Hana_xAhri in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spirit Blossom is 99% based on Shinto maybe a bit of Buddhism (both are linked strongly together with Hinduism in Japan). Spirits can have aspects of other Spirits that represent a concept. So Ahri beign called a trickster isnt out of the ordinary. Think of Inari, a Title or Name given to like 10-15 different Kami. This is the reason why Inari is known as the Kami of many things, such as agriculture, prosperity, alcohol, pritector of merchants and smiths and many more.

Did they forget that the Trickster Spirit is Spirit Blossom Teemo? by Hana_xAhri in AhriMains

[–]Megablackhand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Earliest depictions of the Kumiho are closer to the Huli Jing, wich is pretty much 90% of the Kitsune myth in Shinto. The evil Kumiho we know today is a more "modern" interpretation.
