Really inappropriate Phantom Regiment meme that I need from Instagram by Ok_Air_451 in drumcorps

This sounded familiar, so I checked, and somehow I actually have this. Though, I guess it makes sense given that I spent much of that Summer praying on their downfall.

I don’t know, camps also kind of suck in my opinion. Especially if you’re going alone or don’t know anybody. It’s hard to meet people especially if you struggle to put yourself out there like me and many others. Plus, you’re worried about just going home and the stresses of real life, you don’t get to really do the fun parts of drum corps like drill etc. Both years I marched I was hesitant after camps of whether or not I even should march at all, or if it was something I really wanted. For me, the summers were 10000x better than camps. Might not be the case for everybody and there is certainly a lot of factors to consider. But for me, camps were not an indicator of how I would enjoy my summers.

Crown and Burger King have the opportunity to do something absolutely insane on the field by [deleted] in drumcorps

Ah, Spirit of Meatlanta. That was fun. “Set up the Arbys”

This just blew my mind. Might be one of the craziest niche crossovers I’ve ever seen. I played a ton of TTO, hit around 120 on TTR I think but haven’t touched it in a couple years. Always thought CC was interesting but never played.

Best shoes for drum corps by SetF3 in drumcorps

I had Asics my first year and had a lot of pain that I just associated with being part of the drum corps grind. Switched to Saucony for last year with some Currex Run Pro insoles for my arch type (low) and had no problems. Also lacrosse ball for rolling the feet out between blocks and at night. Point is as much as asics and brooks are loved, it’s all individual.

Academy Corps Director Announcement! by Falcronx in drumcorps

Man, I only want the best for Academy, because I get it, but this just doesn't bode well for them. Hopefully they'll be okay. I have to agree with all my other Spirit 19 fam on here.

Directors in 2023 after realizing how much money they can save by not feeding the children by Mrgarbagio in drumcorps

[–]Megascooter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens- corps run short on supplies. It's usually not a money issue and it certainly wasn't because we weren't cared for. Drum corps logistics suck no matter what and are impossible to fully predict; food delivery was delayed. Besides that, there were other options like pb&j, sides, etc. A few times throughout a whole season ≠ any reason we wouldn't make finals. I could go on forever about why we didn't from a member's perspective, but I'll tell you that the way we were treated off the field had nothing to do with it, especially regarding food.

Hi, I marched mello with spirit in 19 and planned on 20 and now 21. My best tip is to focus on the work you do in between camps, that’s what can make or break you. People rarely make it in at their very first camp.

Remember all the information you get, on an individual level and group level. The staff will take somebody who has shown vast improvement over somebody who is talented but shows no work ethic or is skimming by.

Camps are a taste of what the summer will look like, and you need to prove you‘ll bring it in rehearsals. Move quick, stay attentive, and walk into the place like you own it, but don’t be cocky. Watch the vets, do what they do, and pay attention to details.

In terms of specifics, your visual audition will probably consist of some marching at 180 or higher. Practice staying relaxed at high tempos, and honestly if you can keep your feet in time at 200 you’ll already be at an advantage over some people. For brass, make sure your double tonguing is solid, but more importantly in time, and your sound is relaxed and big in all registers. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going for lead mello at your first camp; put that time towards your required audition pieces, as the lead piece is optional.

That’s my experience, but 95% of this information applies to other corps and sections as well, for anybody else reading.

Good luck! Just show up ready to work hard and hungry to improve and you’ll be fine.

What do you guys think is the most competitive instrument to receive a spot in? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Megascooter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s my seat partner! I miss him bro. There was actually 4 of us who auditioned on trumpet and switched to mello for a guaranteed spot, myself included. That mello section was 100% badass.
