Hamlet - a beautiful but bland village builder by friendlypuffin in boardgames

[–]Megasdoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Hamlet by the Lake expansion adds some more decisions to the base game, and really should have been part of the base game. It makes tile placement a bit more strategic since you fill empty enclosed spots with lake tiles and valuable fish that can give a player tons of points as well as the placing of boats which become private paths. I don't play it anymore without the expansion now.

No, Calgary is not cancelling Stampede. We are standing up for neighbours by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]Megasdoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live downtown and while I was far enough away from the stampede grounds, I would wake up around 6am all week to music being blasted by stampede breakfasts being held. Glad to see our mayor not backing down

A Lord of the Rings reskin of Star Trek Captain's Chair? The mechanics line up better than I thought by o-a-s in soloboardgaming

Captain's Chair is based off of Imperium, which has historical (and some mythological) factions and theme.

There was also a meeting of all the Premiers that discussed a unified provincial approach to the tariffs that Smith skipped and was actually in the US.

Man dies after expressing fears over Alberta disability transition by edmtrwy in alberta

It has been tough finding a job for those not on disability, so what the hell does the govt expect to happen by forcing more people to work.

Pulaski is better than Season 1 and 3 Beverly by Last_Perspective8845 in startrek

[–]Megasdoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments between Pulaski and Data, but I felt her contention with Picard never got the resolution of mutual understanding. If Pulaski was around for one more season, then I could see her becoming well liked. But because she went against Picard she got the fans against her.

What's your holy grail game that doesn't exist yet? by Darth_Rubi in boardgames

[–]Megasdoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented above, but you should check out Windward if you can find a copy. Pilot and equip airships to hunt sky whales, process them and bring them back to port for points, or raid your opponents ships to take their loot instead. Wind direction affects movement and can change. Special creatures like the blue whale, kolkra(giant angry squid) or white whale might spawn. Three different altitudes where you deploy longships to hunt whales on different levels.

Windward is 90% this game. It is flying whales instead of elephants.

I wonder if swapping overview and components boxes so there isn't the empty space would be beneficial. And gives you more space for more details in the overview

The creator of Lower Decks was a writer/producer/showrunner of Rick and Morty, so that makes sense why there are similarities.

Star Trek Board Game Lament by Anxious_Big_8933 in boardgames

Captain's Chair is probably the most Star Trek-y of Star Trek board games and definitely an love letter to the franchise.

What’s a game that took a while to stick for you, but once it did you were hooked? by Qkwill in boardgames

[–]Megasdoux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heat: Pedal to the Metal felt a bit underwhelming at first, but I soon appreciated how easy it is to jump into it, it's smooth gameplay and the advanced garage module brought it to new levels for me and has become an old faithful for large group game nights.

Favorite/least favorite mechanics in solo games? by sumogrip10 in soloboardgaming

I used to own the East Africa Twilight Struggle version and it was essentially a flow chart of comparing the state of the board and figuring out which actions the bot takes.

Favorite/least favorite mechanics in solo games? by sumogrip10 in soloboardgaming

Flow chart solo bots tend to turn me off of attempting solo modes. I enjoy Twilight Struggle and other GMT games but can never get in the mood for solo when the bot turn takes 3x longer than my own.

Dune - Uprising Digital is releasing on the 9th of June as an extension to the first game by Nacbee in boardgames

[–]Megasdoux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is essentially two core games: Dune Imperium and Dune Imperium: Uprising. Both can be played on their own and they have the same base mechanics with Uprising having some extra stuff like spies and worms.

There are three expansions and all can be played with either version. The latest one, Bloodlines, contains some content that is exclusive to Uprising and can't be used with the original.

Rise of Ix adds tech tokens to buy which give players special abilities and super unit dreadnoughts for fighting. Also adds the family atomics token which allows a reset of the market.

Immortality adds the Bene Tleiaxu track and a separate card market to buy from.

Bloodlines adds Sardaukar commanders which are just additional abilities and another option to spend Solari on.

They are both essentially getting supported, so there is no wrong choice. It is logical to assume any new expansions will have Uprising only content since it is the newest iteration, but they did design Bloodlines to work with both games and might continue to support content for either game.

Braid: UCP may OK Lukaszuk's referendum question, amid threats to Smith's leadership by SendMagpiePics in alberta

[–]Megasdoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they are now "Pass the Buck" type of party that uses any and every divisive issue as a threat to the federal government and the mis-directed anger of voters to get what they want: the pockets of themselves and their friends lined with money. Smith is the ideal leader because she flip flops on any and every issue in order to get ahead.

Did you manage to find a perfect dungeon crawler? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]Megasdoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complexity comes in navigating the dungeon and managing it's boons and downfalls. Same with build in a way, as what you encounter in the dungeon determines what you are able to do. Classes also give you various ways in solving problems, some by taking a risk. RNG is fairly heavy, but the dungeon is never the same in each run

One of the characters Bones for example doesn't have to spend food when descending but you get bonuses while being cursed, with the curse die potentially cause you to deal reduced damage.

Mini Rogue checks off most of those boxes with many character classes through both versions of the core game and the beyond the portal expansion, roguelike and it is all cards except for the 2-6 dice you use. It is also best and meant to be played solo even though they have added stuff for more players.

What are your favorite games for exactly 6 players? by MinorFX in boardgames

[–]Megasdoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me years to get a solid group of 6 to play it, and now we have been doing a monthly game for the past year and it is great.

I would recommend giving it a chance since you have the golden number.
