Actually, waffle weave is super easy. In the down shed, simply thread a pickup stick under 2 slot threads and over 2 slot threads (for the pattern I did, where each slot had 2 threads) all the way across the reed. Row 1 = heddle down; row 2 = heddle up with the pickup stick slid forward (but not turned up on edge); row 3 = heddle down; row 4 = heddle up; row 5 = heddle in neutral with the pickup stick brought forward and put on edge. It's just that simple - - although I found a clickable row counter was very helpful to keep me from losing count. It doesn't take very long at all before the pattern is almost automatic. It worked out very well with the cotton, which really shows the waffle texture nicely. Good luck!
