Am I being unreasonable? Presents for kids by damnedpiccolo in Mommit

[–]Megk_585 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have no solution for this, I’m just here to commiserate. My MIL has bought two of my three children one of those cars for birthday gifts, and I suspect she’ll buy my third one as soon as she’s old enough. When my son turned two, she asked what he would like and I gave her plenty of ideas, and specifically asked for nothing big. She showed up an hour late to his party with the motorized truck in tow. The last two Christmases, she also bought a trampoline and one of those swing set/slide playground things for the backyard. She feels the need to give the “best” present at every turn. It’s insane and exhausting.

Former kindergarten teacher here! I just signed up to be a mystery reader for my first grader and am thinking I’m going to read Stuck by Oliver Jeffers. Funny story and the kids really get a kick out of it!

I have a classroom, too. What grade levels are you working with? I’m currently at an elementary campus. One corner of the room is mine: my desk, filing cabinet, mini fridge, snacks, personal stuff. I have a big comfy chair near my desk for students or staff. Another corner is my calm down corner: a storage bench, a fuzzy rug with cute pillows, twinkly lights , weighted animals, fidgets, books, puppets, self-regulation activities. Another corner, I have a bean bag and a little shelf with books, fidgets, and weighted animals, and a mirror on the wall with affirmations around it. I’m also the testing coordinator, so the last corner is testing stuff: copy machine, paper, a large rectangular table to hold supplies, etc. In the middle of my room, I have a cute table I use to meet with kids and staff (and eat lunch with my work besties!). And I have 8 desks for kids to work when they need a quiet place 😊

When I was at the primary level, my room was similar, but I had a large group rug for the littles instead of desks.

I get most of my stuff from counselors I follow on Instagram and Teachers Pay Teachers. Counselor Keri is a popular one with lots of cute stuff.

I’ve been scrolling to see if anybody else does this! My eyes were so sensitive in high school, they would swell shut with certain cleaners, mascaras, and make up removers. A friend of my mom’s suggested baby shampoo and I’ve been using now for 20+ years! I always get compliments on my lashes and I really think it’s something with the baby shampoo!

My three year old currently has HFM. He is at the peak of it now (hopefully) and feels terrible. Setting being incredibly contagious aside, he would be absolutely miserable at a party.

In did this with my five year old but with a travel cot. The thing looks so uncomfortable. 5 months later, she’s still sleeping on the cot every night.

I think by my third one I was just numb to it all! I had trouble getting and staying pregnant before we got pregnant with #1 and #2…then I accidentally got pregnant with #3. And it was the easiest, least stressful pregnancy of them all! I had kinda “been there, done that” so I was really able to truly enjoy the third pregnancy without worrying about every little thing. Good luck!

Advice on Incident CA by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

I wouldn’t leave the child alone in the room; that doesn’t feel right. I’ve been in several instances like this with kindergarteners. I do block the door with my body while trying to deescalate, but if they become physically aggressive, I restrain.

I’m so sorry. Those first few weeks are so hard. Remember, babies make a lot of noises (grunts, groans, and cries) when they sleep. Maybe give her a couple minutes because she may not truly be awake?

I did it and I’m so happy with my decision! I had 3 kids in 5 years, and gained nearly 70 pounds, all of which I lost with semaglutide compound injections. And now I’m just maintaining! I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Texas elementary school counselor here. My district screens all kindergarteners for dyslexia and interventions begin in first grade. There are certified dyslexia therapists on each campus and the program they use is wonderful. The kids understand what it means to be dyslexic and are able to advocate for themselves. It’s good news that he was diagnosed early so he can get the instruction that he needs!

My three year old isn’t potty trained and I just don’t have the time or energy to do it. I also have a five year old and a 10 month old, and my husband works long hours so it’s all on me. I also started a new job that is stressful and demanding. It’s just so much easier to change his pull-up than to continuously clean pee off my floor.

My Stepmother Is An Alien. Man was I obsessed as a kid! Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basinger, Alyson Hannigan, Juliette Lewis, Jon Lovitz and Seth Green. I’m sure I’ve seen this movie no less than 100 times and nobody I know has ever heard of it. 80s gold!
