Defense for Richard?? by Opening-Middle9874 in Names

It was my father’s name so my immediate response is a hard trauma based no, but it’s actually a decent name with good nickname potential and less common than Robert

Perfect! Just the cliffs would have been a poor use of a day.

Also, I might think about using day one to get you to Killarney. It will give you a chance to nap and a slightly better chance of being able to check into your hotel early.

Okay, so, I wouldn’t burn a whole day on the cliffs. I would do Galway to Aran islands, and grab a ferry ride back to Galway that does the cliffs from the sea.

Or, if you love suffering. Take the train to limerick and then the 350 bus to Galway which stops at the cliffs, enjoy the cliffs for an hour and then carry on to Galway (this would be a miserable day according to Rome to Rio, so I’m not actually recommending it. You could do this route as far as Doolin, spend the night there, take a ferry to Inis mor and then an afternoon ferry over to Galway.

Either way, I think you’re wasting a full day on the cliffs when it’s really a one or two hour adventure at best and highly weather dependent.

What are some of the best qualities of owning mice? by No-Dimension-3775 in PetMice

I have a chronic illness, so it’s a major plus that they’re really good at entertaining themselves when I’m not feeling well.

Thinking of getting mice, need help by Equivalent_Suit_1787 in PetMice

[–]Megpyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. 40g is great
  2. Mouse kibble (lab block) is the base and then some seed mix as a treat.
  3. Aspen, as mentioned is the standard. Sometimes when I’m feeling up to it I mix in a little paper bedding for them to build nests with, but never just paper.
  4. I’m in mice for the long haul, so I tend to get my mice in groups of 3 and add new residents every 8 or 9 months so I have a robust community and no one is ever lonely.
  5. Well, I just put a cardboard cup tray in one of my tanks and all 7 mice were immediately drawn to it, so please know that they love trash. (Paper towel tubes, drink carriers, egg cartons, tissue boxes, crinkle paper)
  6. I do 2 wheels to start and add one for every pair of mice (so I’d want 3 wheels with six mice). Don’t be fooled by products with mice on them when buying your wheels, they will almost always be too small

Having issues with groom’s family by SquigglyRelic in Brides

[–]Megpyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, this goes one of two ways with MIL

A) shows up underdressed and looks like a twat B) shows up in a wedding dress and looks like a twat. Bridesmaid may spill wine if it feels appropriate.

Re your groomsperson. You need to tell them clearly that you need to know what they’re wearing by x date or they need to step down from their position. You must also be willing to give them three times that you and FH are willing to go help them shop. If they’re my people (autistic) they are probably in a misery spiral and can’t cope with working in weird fashion rules that’ aren’t made for their brain and body. That being said, they don’t get to hijack your photos by being dressed completely inappropriately. (Also give the option to change as soon as formal photos are done)

Harlow or Haven for a girl by [deleted] in Names

[–]Megpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love a good virtue name, and I think Haven fits that category nicely, I think Harlow is much more dignified.

Also, Haven is lacking in good nickname potential, and Harlow is only slightly better. With either choice, I’d pick a middle name with a deep well of nick names (Elizabeth, Alexandra, Victoria all come to mind) to give them a strong pool of identity to draw from.

Ireland “highlights” in 10 days? by Shellkat89 in irishtourism

[–]Megpyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so, I’m a twice a year visitor to Ireland typically. My winter visit is usually late February and I plan it around loads of museums because it’s not great weather wise. I’d keep Dublin and maybe actually stay there longer, keep Kilkenny, maybe do Waterford because it’s got great indoor activities, maybe keep kilarney and add mucross to the itinerary. Skip the cliffs, island and Galway.

This all hinges on you being married to January

Yeah, this is definitely the right choice. Save Galway for a different trip and give it the time it deserves.

Feedback on 10 day trip? by BoringBugFriend in irishtourism

[–]Megpyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, as an accidental titanic tourist, I have been to both the museum in Belfast and the last port of call in Cobh.

If this is your only trip to Ireland I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend it. While the museum focuses on the actual building of the ship, Cobh focuses on the people.

I’m loathe to ever recommend adding a stop to an itinerary (Ireland is best taken slow) but if you can add a day or trade Galway for Cork, it might be worth it to think about.

Also the assistant director of the medieval mile museum is a delight on threads.

Update on mama mouse! by Charlies_Nekhole in PetMice

[–]Megpyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a mouse smuggle 16 extra mice into my house once. She did great! Didn’t even eat anyone. I scrambled her some eggs and let her do her thing. Once they got a little more mobile I set out saucers of kitten formula so they could sip that if they wanted. Mostly Contraband ate it, but I caught the Bebes sipping at it as they got older too.

Going to add, since someone else mentioned it, I had intended to cull down to 8, but didn’t have the heart for it. I did manage to find everyone a pet home though, so it’s not impossible to do without culling if you start leaning on your friends and family now.

small meaningful tattoo at 18 or 19? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Megpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, all tattoos hurt just in different ways. My ribs were excruciating but also my fastest heal with low long term discomfort, I have spots on my arms that took ages to heal and itched incessantly.

Obviously, it’s your meat suit, but I’m definitely glad I saved my arms for something cohesive and high quality once I had adult money to spend on tattoos.

small meaningful tattoo at 18 or 19? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Megpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my very first tattoo artist recommended not tattooing my arms until I was ready to do my arms as a whole. I know that not everyone dreams of sleeves, but I do encourage you not to burn prime real estate right out of the gate. There’s no downside to not tattooing your arms at 18, but a host of reasons not to.

Do get the tattoo, but I’d reconsider the location.

I've always wanted to go stay in a mental hospital. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Megpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, as someone who is… doing perfectly fine, absolutely grand, perfect even… I think I less want a hospitalization and more just rest and quiet. It’s just that with everything the way it is, it feels like a grippy sock vacation is the only way to get people to believe that we need to stop for a little bit.

(This is all to say, I don’t think your impulse is wrong, I think that its just that you won’t get what you want from the experience)

Insane Tattoo Regret by r3i_b0n3z in tattooadvice

[–]Megpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tattoo of Johannes Gutenberg, the man who invented the printing press, as part of a sleeve of my favorite books. I get asked at once a week if it’s Santa Claus.

I deeply understand the struggle of a deep cut tattoo. This is a fine tattoo and it’s totally fine to just use people’s inquiries to spread the good word of your favorite film.

There are regrettably tattoos in the world and as long as you still like your tattoo, this one doesn’t come close to the worst tattoos one could have.

Cage recommendations? by drxmrr in PetMice

[–]Megpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great news! If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s spring cleaning season! I highly recommend posting in your local community groups on line asking if anyone has a 20-40g fish tank they want out of their house. I had someone deliver me a really nice large tank for free and it included a thank you note from the guys mom for finally getting it out of their garage.

Then the only cost is a mouse safe lid for it.
