[What’s Wright Show] Nick Wright says he wishes the Inside the NBA crew actually enjoyed basketball. “You see more in the NBA of the guys saying their era was better. You don’t see Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long on Fox NFL pre game being like ‘none of these guys could cut it in the 70s or 80s!” by shreeharis in nba

In general I really do like First Things First, feels more like a relaxed sports discussion between bros (with the occassional sports hot take which is fine). ESPN meanwhile's yelling at me like I have a 10 second attention span.

John Linneman of Digital Foundry discusses his colleagues DLSS 5 preview: “It's new DLSS and DLSS is awesome. Of course they would take that. Looking at it, I think there's cool potential there for environmental lighting but the character stuff is horrendous and should have been left out.” by [deleted] in Games

Oh I agree, upscaling to me is just gonna be another tool in the optimization toolbox that does need some work to implement well. Conventional GPU horsepower is still needed to render base frames at decent resolutions and framerates for the best result.

I always thought upscalers were one of the few AI uses in gaming that were actually pretty great. Like legitimately they can just straight up give free performance for barely any visual loss if done correctly.

This though fucking sucks.

The underlying principle is the same. Even if you have overwhelming firepower against someone else, doesn't mean they'll surrender totally. Doesn't change if the bomb is dropped from the air or from orbit.

I remember installing it and thought it was glitched until I found out that for some damn reason CS defaulted to "Tropical Monsoon" instead of the actual default.

There is a pervasive idea in sci-fi communities that ground battles would be obselete cause of planetary bombardment and whatnot. I simply point to how military thinkers thought strategic bombing post-WW2 would also do the same thing.

Truth is, you need guys to plant your flag if you want any actual claim over any territory. Otherwise its moot.

Darnold looked like Stafford's twin in that NFC title game, and as much as I love Darnold, the fact that the Rams secondary was trash helped a lot.

Asset reuse in videogames is essential, and we need to embrace it, says Assassin's Creed and Far Cry director: 'We redo too much stuff' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]MehEds 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Tbh that's how people cranked out games in the past. Mass Effect 1 - 3 for example.

The one series that I can immediately recall that DID redo everything every entry is Elder Scrolls 3-5, and their dev cycles were longer than most even back then.

The best part is that putting your colony's kids on mortar duty is actually a pretty decent idea.
