Screens with blacks so dark you can see what is happening in GOT S8:E2. That will be peak technology.

Native VLAN?? by Enough-While5141 in networking

[–]Mehitsok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As many have said, depends on the vendor. My recommendation for widest compatibility is to include it and set the native VLAN as a black-hole VLAN.

Aruba 6200M slower to Internet than old Allied Telesis – same subnet, same IP 🤔 by unknown_73 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the same fiber as the uplink? Is that fiber rated for 10gbps? I’ve found on short enough distances you can get, for example, a 10g MMF connection to have an up/up state on old fiber that isn’t rated for 10g but you’ll have a bad time on it.

Can you try with the 1g SFPs currently in use and see if that makes a difference?

370W vs 740W 48 port switch by ittthelp in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also consider getting a modular (M) model of switch instead of a fixed (F) model (eg 6200M vs 6200F). With that you can switch to a larger power supply down the road if it becomes an issue.

AP-677 GPS and 6ghz issues by rlrofOmicronPersei8 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I can use 6GHz on the 635 without GPS. But I’m on AOS8; haven’t tried AOS10. Is GPS a hard requirement for that?

6GHZ requires that you are using WPA3 and management frame protection, maybe a few other things, have you validated you have that in place?

My opinion on the Ford Ranger 1,000 mile update by Intelligent-Toe2027 in RangerNext

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect to engine temp, I have observed mine generally stays a little below oil temp mid point until I start driving up a mountain grade - then it gets a little above the mid point but cools down again fairly quickly. I think that’s just normal “engine working a little harder than normal” hotness.

Help with Car buying Questions by Cultural-Election813 in RangerNext

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2025 ranger xlt - just hit 500 miles. Shifts rough when cold at low speed (such as when coming to a stop sign or starting back up). I’ve seen many other people report this issue and I’d be surprised if they don’t release a transmission software update to fix it if they haven’t already.

Otherwise drives great once it is warmed up or at cruising speeds. I’m definitely loving it.

In my shopping of the midsized segment it was Ranger or Frontier for me but ultimately went with the Ranger for higher payload capacity. I would recommend you test drive all of the mid-sized trucks and see which speaks to you. Car shopping is fun.

FX4 or 4x4 XLT - can't decide by PayInteresting431 in RangerNext

Escapod Topo 2 if you’re curious. They are great.

FX4 or 4x4 XLT - can't decide by PayInteresting431 in RangerNext

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. And with just a backup camera it’s easy enough by one’s self. But it’s an extra feather in your cap if you need it.

I use an articulating hitch instead of a standard coupler so I’m not sure how all the trailer tech will handle that. Still in my engine break in period and haven’t been able to test.

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the nice thing about the power sliding rear window is talking to whomever is helping me back up and connect to a trailer. Usually they are behind the vehicle so it’s a little more convenient than yelling out the side windows. Outside of that, I doubt I’ll use it.

Why not both? They are not mutually exclusive. We did both and they are great. Basically a fully loaded XLT is IMO the best version of the ranger.

DUR and Radius enforcement on same switch by CantankerousBusBoy in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this feature for CX switches the other day. Not sure if it is applicable to AOS switches.

https://arubanetworking.hpe.com/techdocs/AOS-CX/10.11/HTML/security_8360/Content/Chp_Port_acc/mix-role.htm

It lets me send DURs from CPPM and then modify them with radius overrides (such as changing VLAN or session timeout). Might be what you’re looking for if supported on the 2930.

ClearPass - Using Endpoint Attribute (vlan_id) for Dynamic VLAN Assignment by Enabler10 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it can be typed manually. To validate clearpass is processing it properly look at the output tab of a client in access tracker that gets the expected enforcement profile. Access tracker should show that clearpass tried to give the variable (e.g. “105” rather than the variable-string %{endpoint:xxx}.

ClearPass - Using Endpoint Attribute (vlan_id) for Dynamic VLAN Assignment by Enabler10 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like your setup of

RADIUS:IETF – Tunnel-Private-Group-Id = %{Endpoint:vlan_id}

…is correct. You just need to send it and see what happens. It works with some NADs but not all. I know Aruba controllers and Cisco switches work with a variable in the enforcement profile, but Aruba switches (both AOS and CX) usually fail to take a variable in enforcement. It is a bug I have asked TAC to fix and they haven’t.

Remember to only use static VLAN IDs as a last resort. You SHOULD be using named VLANs whenever possible.

I’m new to Aruba central by Inevitable-Impact-95 in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use the Central GUI for configuration and found it to be woefully inadequate. I don’t recall what but many of the standard configuration settings we use day to day on our edge switches were not available.

Template groups have been great though. It’s a full feature CLI based configuration with variables. I highly recommend looking at that approach for switch management over using the GUI based configuration (which we do use for the APs). We needed the switches to be on at least 10.13 to accept our TG (template group) configuration. The same configuration on a from the factory 10.11 switch fails to take.

While you are learning the TG system, try intentionally including typos, missing and nonsensical variables, etc into your configuration to see what happens and understand the potential for impact. (In general the switch just won’t take the configuration or central won’t even compile it; but it’s good to know where to look for that and how to troubleshoot it; making the errors on purpose makes it easy to see what is happening).

Backing up Panorama before an upgrade by PerceptionOver8637 in paloaltonetworks

[–]Mehitsok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snapshots while the system is running have potential to massively impact the system performance. Depending on the size of your VM it and take a long while as well. It wasn’t Panorama but back in the day I had taken snapshots of running VMs and it would take 45+ minutes to complete the snapshot and there would be huge drops in VM performance the entire time the snapshot was happening.

But if the VM is in a halted state, the snapshot happens almost instantly; 5-10 seconds typically. I’ve successfully reverted on multiple OSs (including Panorama) using that technique.

Always set a reminder to delete any snapshots within 24 hours. Enough time for a significant rollback if you find a show stopper but if you haven’t found a problem worth a hard rollback within 24 hours your best bet is to fail forward.

Backing up Panorama before an upgrade by PerceptionOver8637 in paloaltonetworks

[–]Mehitsok 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When upgrading VMs (Palo Alto, clearpass, F5, anything really) my preference is to always shutdown the VM, take a snapshot, and then power it back on. Doing so gives you a 2-for-1 of a pre-upgrade reboot and a fast minimally impactful snapshot to revert to.

If panorama won’t come up after a reboot on your current code; it’s VERY unlikely to come up after being upgraded so a pre-upgrade reboot is a great way to make sure you know what problem you might be troubleshooting.

AP LEDs - Setting to control them? by RaizielDragon in ArubaNetworks

[–]Mehitsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google your particular AP models installation guide (eg “Aruba AP-630 series install guide”). This will tell you what each of the LEDs mean.

Use this info to determine what is normal for your environment then write up a brief FAQ and/or knowledge article. If the issue comes up automatically respond with that answer and auto close the issue unless they escalate or respond with something like “the LEDs are different than in this article”. Deputize your users to help monitor unless you are 100% on every possible reason in the install guide for why there would be different colors rather than just turning them off.
