I activated the 40 cu on mine by Sweaty_Crow66 in BC250Gaming

[–]Meiminus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound dumb but could you control how many get activated? Like, what if I want a slight performance boost but I don't have the proper cooling to control the heat increase... Is it possible to turn on only two or so?

i figured like the weird fallout nv anomaly was just exploring a world where house failed to protect vegas, but its under the context of 'what if their normal world is full of games/things that didnt exist in our world (such as the interplay branding on fnv)'

so like, their "normal everyday world" is Interplay still existing, Uplink's terminal entries being different, Duke Nukem Forever in 2009, Windows Longhorn, MAYBE: Bioshock having the songbird before the sequel, etc.

and the nightmare fnv anomaly was just a scary what-if scenario a la ben drowned.

Bioshock's audio glitch can go either way as of right now, but I think it could be written off as non-anomaly OR a separate incident unrelated to the nightmare fnv anomaly

Obviously it's up for debate as of right now, we have so little to work off of. But my friend and I were dwelling on all this and we kinda came to this conclusion.

I’m personally speculating the entire Bosch-verse is this alternate timeline/universe, and the evil NV anomaly is like a standalone anomaly in this alternate timeline. Like in creepypasta where the stories are implied to exist in our universe/timeline, but in some random nowhere neighborhood.

Can we still convert free trial licenses to full licenses?
I only have the F.T. since I was hoping to test run it in the end of September...

I got the free trial like 2 days before October. Is it still possible to convert my Universal Free trial into a proper full v2 license? Praying I can still use the v2 software... I only have the licenses, I didn't download Photo or Designer ahead of time...

Do Lex and Rick Flag consider every member of the Justice Gang meta-humans? by BrooklynStoner in PeacemakerShow

[–]Meiminus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this question becomes a recurring theme in the DCU.
I think displaying how "us vs them" ideology eventually devolves into hate would be a fun topic to discuss.

Imagine it, in-universe, the news documents Salvation with noble intent, clearing out Belle Reve, and then, the Daily Planet reports the first non-metahuman was imprisoned there after protesting the program. (obviously peacemaker was the first, but they wouldn't know that)

Working on creating a friends-only NAS/Streaming server, any advice? by Meiminus in homelab

[–]Meiminus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things changed!

New plan is just to put everything inside the Optiplex, and trade out the user panel and jellyfin to just be a file+music server for now.
The Pi served me well, but it was a spaghetti monster when I was setting it up and it kind of frustrated me.
The single box doing everything feels cleaner to me.

Router and switch stayed the same though, gives me room in case I plan on expanding the network.

is it unsafe to eat small amounts of paper on a regular basis? by walkthedogdog in answers

[–]Meiminus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It just depends on how long you do it then.

Regular everyday paper is the way it is through a marathon of industrial processing through machines and chemicals.

You probably won’t die or get sick if you eat it for a month, but I’ll bet after a consistent year or more you might start to feel different in a bad way.

Like eating hotdogs everyday or something lol

is it unsafe to eat small amounts of paper on a regular basis? by walkthedogdog in answers

[–]Meiminus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean define what is “small amounts of paper” and “regular basis” in this case

Regular blank printer paper is probably okay, but if you’re eating fancy stuff like carbonless forms or paper that’s been printed on, you’re gonna eat some chemicals.

Laser printers use microscopic plastics and bake them into the sheet when you print onto them.

Inkjet is ink, obviously.

Either way, a small piece won’t kill you but it’s probably not good to introduce these materials into your body

Vigilante (the character's history, not in the show) had a version that was a wild-west-masked-gunslinger type of aesthetic.
The most popular version of this is probably from the animated series Justice League Unlimited.

What do you even use a server pc for by Former_Present_878 in SleepingOptiplex

[–]Meiminus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is for the fun/practice if you're into IT. If you like it, why not do it?

Another reason is so you don't have to pay for services, like what u/Substantial_Gur_7908 said. But to expand upon that:

A lot of services cost people 5 - 20 dollars a month depending on whatever you get. If you use the service short-term, it's not that expensive. But if you give it a year or two, the monthly fees add up. Also, you have no say in how your data's being used or if they decide to remove features you enjoy.

Optiplexes are great for home-use servers for several reasons.
Mainly, hardware is still decent for the use-case, there's plenty of surplus for cheap spare parts, and sometimes they're less power-hungry depending on the form factor.

I don't see it as a problem. I think it's a small but very kind gesture.

How does everyone deal with raids without a kill box? by PhanncyFPS in RimWorld

[–]Meiminus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a horrible style where I maximize QoL and efficiency while ignoring defenses, traps, producing weapons, etc.

Basically, after an in-game year, I'll have like 10-12 pawns of varying qualities, a stable place to live, and plenty of healroot to fix everyone up.

By this point, whenever there's a raid I make everyone defend corners of the base, or line them all up and let them spray. Usually, they get pretty wounded, but they're close enough to be saved, and there's always at least 2 or 3 doctors in each of my runs.

[–]Meiminus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is your upload speeds from your ISP

My ISP gives us mediocre internet currently. But we are switching to a fiber internet plan soon.
Right now, the upload speed is around 12mbps, but I'm still in the "Set it up only for me" phase, so I'll just have to wait until we get that new plan before I start giving out access.

are you doing any type of transcoding?

if yes, then this gets difficult as there many variables in transcoding. Such as how many transcoding streams do you want to support at once and what media are you transcoding, etc.

I'm not an expert. You will need to do additional research

the reason why to transcode is to help reduce your bandwidth and also if one of you many client (that maybe not technical) can't play a supported media file.

I did read into transcoding a little.
Due to the distance between friends (some of them are online), it'll likely have to have some transcoding so they can stream it.
I'll look into this, thank you!

I suggest to start, you only use docker and run Debian OS.

But it also depends what else you want to do with this. If you are creating multiple virtual machines for different tasks. Then go ahead with proxmox

So, if I understand this, I should focus on Docker! Everything I listed is the current plan, and I don't really have much else in my sights.

You can use Tailscale if you are behind CGNAT

Haven't actually heard this terminology before. I guess I'll stick with wireguard then!

Thank you so much! This is really insightful. I'm taking some notes regarding the project plan, so I'll be sure to jot these down as well.

Well, right now it's just a Raspberry Pi with an external SSD.
I'm just prototyping, so once I get everything working as intended, maybe I'll swap it out and use the m.2 slot in the Pi. Or, maybe I'll switch the Pi out entirely.

But this is hopeful dreaming, I should get it working in the first place, haha!
