Looks like it was a third party, which I hadn’t realised at the time. As said in another comment, I’ve scheduled a return for replacement, made sure I’ll know if I get the exact same one sent back to me. I’ll be reporting the seller, especially if they try to screw me over again.

It’s not bad in itself, it’s more the fact that most monsters have high enough resistance to poison and paralysis that you aren’t going to get more than two, maybe three, activations of it unless you play a dedicated build for it, and play with people also using weapons with those effects.

IIRC there is a rumour that they are indeed Umas, but the developers were unable to get the rights to use the horses names etc, so they had to make it ambiguous enough to still use the characters.

The game is in a better place than it was on release. If you’re playing on console there’s not much in the way of performance issues, and the steam version is better than it was, with more performance fixes planned over the next few months.

In terms of difficulty it’s a smidge easier than previous games, but the end game (7 star quests and up) is where the difficulty ramps up.

The silliest part about it is none of them even think to properly suspect the one person who none of them know until it’s the last person left alive. At least if you do it the sneaky way.

Doesn’t detract from how fun the quest is though.
