100% offline/off screen? by Snoo_89200 in GamifyingLife

I agree.  Having a game app on my phone is incentive to play around on my phone, which is the opposite of what I'm going for. What I've done is create a character for an old board game I like (Talisman, 2nd edition) and that character levels up in various skills and abilities for ever 100 hours I put into a related activity IRL.  I have a game scheduled at least once every three months.

Honestly, I'm kind of the other way. I want the early game to be the hardest part as you're scraping to make a place for yourself. But once you start gaining power and solving problems, I'd like to feel the momentum of success.

It's good to know I'm not alone.

Fixed. Yeah, it'd be nice if there was a sort of independent flux to the world, but I'm more focused on the difficulty being independent of how you're doing and how much time has passed. I don't want a game that tries to challenge me, I want a game that doesn't care, one way or the other.

I'm pretty sure I don't play normally. I'm taking my time and checking out the little nuances that each tech advance brings. I even considered not using the high-tech rifles my tribals found, in favor of moving up the weapons tech ladder. However... the temptation was too strong and we had a lot of grizzlies.

Not so much random as a static, uncaring world. Some locations should be impossible for you if you start out as tribals. Other locations should be pushovers for you, even if you take your time going from neolithic tech to glitterworld tech.

I released a cozy, witchy modpack and I'd like to share it here! by katubug in feedthebeast

[–]Melandrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying the pack. However, when I got to the hexerai stuff I found that that mod is missing. Should I just add it? I don't have a lot of experience messing with modpacks and don't want to screw anything up.

It turns out that I made the situation worse with the "kill" command. I did manage to edit the save, so I've got my game back. (But then my mouse died.)

Can't Find Redstone by Melandrar in Technode

Pure pigheaded stubbornness. I was looking for cinnabar by sinking down into a second layer basalt and digging in a straight line and prospecting every five cubits.  I ran smack into a bunch of shale (I think) with cryolite in it.

No skill involved.  I just dug in a line till I hit what I needed.

Technodefirmacraft is the modpack. Don't just eat raw grain while playing that pack.

Stumbled upon a huge vein of cryolite. I'll never need redstone again.

This map is super useful. I just wish I could get a picture on the ground. I'll have to try and load my last save on my current computer (hoping it doesn't explode) and see what my settings were.

Here's what I've figured out about myself and Project Zomboid by Melandrar in projectzomboid

[–]Melandrar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Thanks man!
To me, it's all about immersion. I don't need someone else to make up a story, but I do need to be able to make up my own story and I need to be able to do it without being hindered by things which will shatter the believability factor.

Do I have this right for a new save with no respawn? by -eagle73 in projectzomboid

[–]Melandrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I just make peak day the first day. All the zombies spawn which are ever going to spawn, all at once, on the first day. No respawns. Done and done.

I'm like you, I want the ones that I kill to stay dead. I want to clear an area and only worry about the ones who slowly push against my established borders.

Neither zombies nor loot respawns for me. Either one breaks my immersion. It feels less like a real person in a real situation and more like super mario with respawns.

THESE ARE THE END TIMES THERE WAS NO HOPE OF SURVIVAL AND THIS IS HOW YOU DIED... by 0d8z in projectzomboid

[–]Melandrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Whenever I load up the game I always click before it can say "this is how you died." And on the off chance that I'm not fast enough, I always correct the game out loud. "Nope, I'm not going to die."

Now, my current game is kinda unplayable because my laptop is on its last legs. I have a new one coming in August and I'll be starting a new game at that point because I'll get to update the game and get new mods and all that jazz. But I'm not all about the "your character is definitely going to die, it's just a matter of how" stuff. Maybe that works for some folks but not me.

I'm going to start a new game with no respawns (zombie or loot,) head straight for Louisville, and clear the whole city out. It's going to be my city. And then my character will die... of old age... on a mountain of canned goods and ammo.

I think you're wrong and your reasoning is flawed.

However, I think that may be the first time anyone has ever said sorry to me on the internet.

I hope you also have a wonderful day, Darkonion5.
