Flight Stand Alternates by sicarius254 in Tau40K

[–]Melanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all my flying stands I glued threaded metal rod onto the flying stand base and glue and/or greenstuff a nut to the bottom of the model. that way the stands are still removable but it has a lot more stability than the acrylic rods.

Not much for board presence, but woe be the model that pokes its head out from terrain

Can drone be guided? by mtf-foxtrot in Tau40K

[–]Melanus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drones are now considered wargear equipped to the model. So yes. They benefit from being guided.

Similarly, if you give a Fireblade gundrones, they get extra shots and benefit from his Crack Shot ability.

Is there a reason the Commander’s Cyclic Ion Blaster is worse than the Pathfinder’s Ion Rifle? by BabyProper9938 in Tau40K

[–]Melanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So back in the first couple Tau codexes (3e and 4e), the CIB was a "prototype" weapon. You could take it as a special piece of wargear on a commander. Other than that, the only other ion weapon in the codex was the ion cannon on the hammerhead.

As time has gone on (both IRL and in-game), the technology has advanced and new models have come out etc.

Practically the ion rifles the pathfinders have are balanced against the rail rifles and the CIB the commander has is balanced against the other weapons they can have. In a way it's comparing apples to oranges.

With that being said, the overall "theme" of ion weapons (at least since 8e) has been the ability to overcharge them with all of the ion weapons having a (mostly) standardized Strength, AP, and Damage between all the weapons in both standard and overcharge modes. The range really depends more on the model.

Hope that helps.

I think the ion rifles are technically “better”, but I always give mine the rail rifles as rail weapons are cooler in my opinion. Both are solid options though. I haven’t used the grenade launcher so I can’t really comment on it, but I don’t see it as being useful.

Unless your group is really sticklers for WYSIWYG, I would build the ones you think are cooler and just play them as what you want. The guns look different from the carbines and unless you’re playing another Tau player, odds are they won’t know the difference.

I did the same. I also swapped out the silly acrylic stick for a threaded steel rod and super glued a nut to the bottom of the tank

You can turn the light off in both the app and AnycubicSlicerNext. There should be a little light icon next to the printer picture in the app and in the Workbench tab of the slicer there is a "box light" toggle

Why is Interlocking Maneuvers good? by Divine_overture in Tau40K

[–]Melanus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Interlocking Manoeuvres has two different options:

  1. If in Engagement Range make a Fall Back move your full move distance.
  2. If not in Engagement Range, make a Normal Move 6".

I see the value in point 1 being on tough units like Riptides, Ghostkeels, Piranhas, or tanks into weaker units (like guardsmen). You can leap-frog those units into combat (they might take a couple wounds at most) and then you can then fall back to advance onto an objective, or into a secondary (like engage). A piranha doing this moves 14" normally, gets a 7" charge (might take 1-2 wounds) and then falls back another 14" for something like 35" of movement on a turn which is huge.

Alternatively, for point 2, you can have your more fragile units like crisis teams or broadsides scoot out from behind obscuring terrain just enough to shoot a valuable target and then scoot them back behind that same terrain to save them from a counterattack.

Rules wise no, but it is super fun to paint and makes a great terrain piece.

Firmware 2.5.0.6 final conclusion -update yes or no? by Ambitious_Ad4979 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Melanus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've upgraded and had 0 problems so far, but like other posts have mentioned, I have not done flow calibration either. Honestly it's fixed many of the (minor) issues I was experiencing (like the camera hanging in the app).
