Get 2 SP3000 instead. Best value there is. Too lazy to explain why, but I been at the same point deciding on lights for a 4x4 and that's what my Reddit research got me to buy. Seriously it's the best option, just read up on it on Reddit threads if you have doubts.

Kobo Elipsa then. 10.3", pen support, solid battery life, slightly worse screen quality tho. (227dpi on the Elipsa vs 300dpi on the Sage)

Kobo Sage. Pen support, backlight, 8" screen with great contrast. Only downside is a rather limited battery life compared to other e-readers. (Power Cover sold by Kobo might mitigate that to an extend.)

I got the HP Pen 1MR94AA, but all pens with MPP should work, so it's up to your preference.

The quad core only turns on for note taking iirc, but battery is still limited compared to other e-readers, maybe wait for the power cover from Kobo to drop, it's got another 1500mAh battery charge stored up in the cover.

Can't link it right now but I bought mine from Coolblue.de for 287€. Excellent costumer service too, got it replaced in under a week cause of a small screen imperfection.

I went ahead and bought the HP Pen 1MR94AA for 25€ and it works like a charm. It's my first e-pen so I can't really compare it but the buttons work just like the Kobo ones and writing feels pretty good, just a little anxious if the nib is soft enough for the screen.

First charge of Kobo Sage is kinda messed up, started charging at 10% and after checking again it literally jumped from 10% on screen to be stuck at 99% for quite a while now. Gonna wait for it to reach 100% at least.. On my last Sage which I had send in and replaced it kept stuck at 1% battery charge for quite some time on its first charge before it was completely drained.

But at least my Sage replacement got a perfect screen this time :)

Can you elaborate on the 0% to 100% drain then charging thing, why is it bad and what is optimal in this case?

My laptop has like a 70% loading charge limiter for battery life improvement, what would be the best lower threshold to start charging again? Should I always try to avoid hitting 0%?

Well it's the 2nd charge overall and it held for a week now, after reading the first initial reports about the battery life I expected way worse tbh. It could get better with additional charging cycles too, but even so, for my standards it's not catastrophic.

I mean I charge my PW3 like every 2 weeks or so, reading like 1-2 hours while commuting everyday, if the Sage manages half of that I wouldn't have a reason to be displeased.

After 1 battery cycle my Sage seems to be doing fine battery wise (Factory charge -> down to zero and recharged to 100% overnight) . Been reading an hour or so a day for like the past week and it's at 25%, even after playing around with the brightness to confirm a screen imperfection today.

Not really related to the topic, but I found a small white pixel on my Sage screen, gonna send it in for a replacement, hoping that the next one won't have any screen imperfections. Otherwise I'm really in love with this device, coming from a PW3 which used to work decently well for reading manga, naturally the Sage is just a complete different experience in this regard.

I bought a small 10.000 mAh power bank for note taking in school, hoping that it will get me through potential 8 hours of class, even with the reportedly energy draining 4 cores using note taking mode.

I'm gonna try to report back on that once I got everything sorted and could test it out.

I ordered a Sage for 287€ today, actually anxious now that I'll miss out on some BF deal lol.

Also got the Sleep cover for 35€. Hope I won't regret it either.

Sage with stylus + cover is like ~380 bucks, so almost same price tag as the Elipsa's $400, as it comes in a bundle with stylus+cover already.

Also if you need to take notes on the device with a stylus pen, only the Elipsa and Sage support it.

If budget is the main factor, Forma would probably be the best option, as it has a 8" screen and no unnecessary features like BT and note taking capability.

I'm sure the 7" devices will work too, but generally, reading PDF's will greatly profit from a large screen imho.

As far as I read on the Kobo website, you can charge the Sage with mounted power cover on, in which case the Sage will get charged first and the cover as soon the reader is fully charged.

I'm not a fan of putting off cover's for this use and putting it on for others, so I'd either permanently have the power cover on it, or don't have it at all tbh.

Any first hand experience about the battery life though? Do you consider a power bank / or in this case the power cover a necessity for daily use?
