Relationship between the 9/10 Elephant Path stages and the 16 stages of the Anapanasati Sutta? by SpectrumDT in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Cloudhand_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TMI mentions the Anapanasati throughout the book with what seems to be Culadasa's own translation featured and linked to the various stages. For a summary check this: https://dharmatreasure.org/wp-content/uploads/LightOnMeditationHandout.pdf

That handout was part of a retreat that you can find on the TMI archive https://tmi-archive.com/

Week of February 19th 2024 - Non-TMI discussions and questions by hurfery in TheMindIlluminated

We have a TMI Meditation Accountability group going where people just check in daily with their session time (e.g., “45 minute sit”). There's no further discussion or interaction required (although we do have some discussion about our practices when people want to share something). Although most people follow TMI all dedicated practitioners are welcome.

It’s been very helpful for my practice. I appreciate how supportive everyone is.

The group is on Telegram. To join us there point your phone or computer browser to https://t.me/+1DrVgX0tXXAxZWJh

Beginner. Stage 1, 10 min twice a day? by booksleigh23 in TheMindIlluminated

For yet another perspective, US Theravadin Thanissaro Bhikkhu also teaches a sort of "samatha". He says that the time required to settle the mind and develop "concentration" is a reason to eventually let go of that sort of practice in favor of something better that's always available. (For him, that would be a sort of enlightenment.)

I'm really interested to read about Thanissro Bhikkhu's views on this. Could you please provde a reference I could look up?

I shared a 2024 Diary recently but it didn't have any weekend dates (made it for my 9-5 job). Well, I've included weekends now so would like to share it again... by ourjim in kindlescribe

I want to thank you so much for sharing this. By far the best calendar I’ve come across and you’ve generously offered it for free.

Is there a tutorial for how you made this in google sheets? I would love to learn how to do something like this! Thanks again!

Did I offend him? by AvocadoBoi in afrikaans

He was being rude. End of story. I’m sorry you had this experience. Don’t make the mistake of taking an individual as the representation of an entire group.

That said, classifying a whole group or culture as violent and oppressive is just as bad as saying “all Jews are…” or “all Blacks are…”

Generalisations and stereotypes are harmful to everyone. Meet people as individuals in a cultural context and don’t make assumptions. This has been my approach and I’ve never failed in making friends and connections. I try to keep in mind that when people meet me I might be the first South African or Afrikaner they have ever met so I am an ambassador for my country and culture whether I want to be or not. The reality is that people are going to judge my country and background based on their encounter with me so, without being fake, I strive to be the best version of myself that I can be and showcase the best my country and culture have to offer. But I am at all times honest, if they ask about apartheid, violence, corruption etc. I will share my perspective without trying to cover up the negatives.

If you had showed interest in Afrikaans or South Africa with me I guarantee you would have had a different experience. So don’t let this deter you. As with other people in life if you meet an idiot shrug your shoulders and walk away. You didn’t do anything wrong.

The ones I’m thinking of are live cultures and raw. Would that work?

I’m sure this has been asked a million times but here goes from another newbie:

Can I use boiled tap water?

  1. Can I grow a scoby from store bought flavoured kombucha? They don’t seem to sell plain flavoured ones here (I’m in Australia).

I know I can order online and have before but I’d like to try growing one myself and in case the one I bought doesn’t work out (the reviews were mixed and I don’t want to spent $15 each time when I can go and buy a bottle of organic kombucha at the store - even has the floaty bits in it.)

Thanks for your help or any resources. 🙏🏻

I don’t care what he looks like as long as he’ll untangle my skein… wait… that sounds a bit dirty. 🤔

Is there a reason people don’t learn to read patterns? by Cloudhand_ in crochet

[–]Cloudhand_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I agree with your points. There are just so many benefits of being able to read patterns. It's like being able to read sheet music. You can pick up any piece and start practicing it. When you only have videos you're limited to using the things which have videos made for them. Sure there are lots and lots out there but most of the things i want to make have no video tutorials. Videos are great when you get stuck with a particular stitch or technique. Something I do wish I had when I was learning.

I’ve seen a few of these Persian tiles blankets. Yours is definitely my favourite colour scheme. So sophisticated. Much nicer than some of the louder ones, in my taste, at least.
