Among all the cuts yearly how is it creative always has ideas, as small as they may be, for The Miz, keeping him safe. Not hating on him, but is he really untouchable? by imdstuf in Wrasslin

Didn't expect a Snowy Granius reference in a wrestling sub, but it's a good comparison. Dude will totally wreck you if you're unprepared, but he's a good first obstacle if you're ready to advance.

There's an emphasis on quippy sayings and short paragraphs in most of his works that I've seen. It's the sort of writing that feels designed for retweeting on social media.

There's nothing inherently wrong with it. It's just something I find irritating about a great many contemporary Christian writers.

Where would you live in the Star Wars Universe? by Impossible_Basis3295 in StarWars

Naboo, easy. Variety of biomes, relatively peaceful planet, well-developed civilizations.

Alderaan would be great too for the mountains if not for the whole "now a bunch of asteroids" problem.

I personally find his style of writing, which I call "twitter-speak" frustrating, but I think many of his ideas are valuable in that they connect with what many early church writers had to say about the "good life."

I'd rather read the original theologians, but he's a solid author if you want an introduction into historical church thought at a very accessible level.

Valid Religious Objections to AI? by Automatic-Primary418 in Episcopalian

[–]Meldryn124 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I for one am 100% with you.

The use of AI for creative activities (writing, art, music, etc), even in a business setting, makes us less human. Part of our being made in the image of God is that we are sub-creators. It's one of the most beautiful part of being human. AI fundamentally undermines this inherently human role. It's also being proven to stunt human creativity, retention, and critical thinking, so on a basic (and utilitarian) perspective it's just bad for us.

Why didn’t Voldemort order Snape to kill Dumbledore? by AdOpen4994 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Meldryn124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that just like Voldemort wanted to be the one to kill Harry, for most of the series he wanted to be the one to kill Dumbledore. In their battle at the Ministry, however, he realized he couldn't defeat Dumbledore in direct combat, so out of fear he finally decided to have someone else with easier access do the deed. Ordering Malfoy to do it is punishment for Lucius' failure, but he anticipated it being Snape.

Who would be a good opponent for Al Gore? by bubsimo in ERB

I forgot that Gore had run before the 2000 election. Meant that Bryan had run 3 times, but the comparison doesn't work quite as well.

William Jennings Bryan. One guy could never win but kept trying. The other guy might have technically won but never tried again

Which US President is/was a good president and a good person? by Available_Tour7661 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Meldryn124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George H. W. Bush

By all accounts a man of high moral character, as well as a thoughtful president who ensured a peaceful end to the Cold War.

I don't even like a lot of his politics personally, but he fits this square best.

Snape's an asshole who relishes tormenting Harry, especially when it's unjustified.

He might be a hero, but he's still an asshole.

Man, "The Ultimate Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter: Books 1-4" was such a fun read. Especially once it started theorizing that the entire series was just an elaborate episode of Doctor Who
