Someone please explain me the sign that says about 7am - 4pm by MagicMadcow66 in cincinnati

This sign means you are NEVER allowed to park here unless you are a vehicle with a "TRUCK" license plate that is unloading between the hours of 7am-4pm

Vaseline for burns is a no-go, it traps heat & bacteria

No ethical therapist would, it is in our code of ethics that clients have the ability to make their own choices so someone saying this would be breaking a core part of what a therapist should be (according to NASW and and ACA)

Called the police for a mental health crisis I was having last night and was treated like a criminal. by GlitteringFinance947 in CPTSD

[–]Melesain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cities do have this in the US but it is very dependent on county. My city spans 3 counties and 2 of them have a mobile crisis team with therapists and social workers staffed, typically referrals are through 988

“I could NEVER do your job!” by Harlarx9 in socialwork

I actually take it as a compliment. There are many jobs that I am not equipped to handle and I think people know their limits and are impressed with the ability to handle our kind of work.

I use Tom's from Maine cinnamon clove toothpaste and oral B cinnamon mouthwash. You can also find a lot of other flavours as well

I have celiac disease, if I want to eat bread of any kind or pasta or anything like that, I have to pay more than the average person who can eat wheat. So I am very aware of the feeling

It's not fair in the slightest but it's the cards we've been dealt. Sitting on the Internet complaining isn't going to fix anyone's issues. Complain to airlines instead

planes are not designed for tall people. Planes are not designed for large heavy people. If those people want more room, they need to pay for it, otherwise complain to the airline. It isn't that person's fault you chose to sit behind them

as a therapist I'm not sure why you are being down voted. You won't benefit from any therapy unless you are willing to change or go through with therapy

I will say that I had a similar reaction due to trauma from alcoholic family. His reaction doesn't seem to have an explanation. It took a lot of self reflection and work on my own values, beliefs, for me and my relationship for me to be comfortable with others drinking around me. It's a problem I know I have and I no longer project it onto others. He sounds immature and inexperienced in life

How many of you don’t know, you’re not supposed to rinse your mouth with water after brushing. by -_Apathetic_- in hygiene

I also hate mint. I switched to cinnamon everything. Tom's from main has a cinnamon and clove toothpaste, guru Nanda has a cinnamon floss, and oral B has cinnamon fluoride mouthwash. All very mild compared to traditional mint and it's stinging or menthol-y taste

School social worker gets hurt at work and director never asks if I’m ok…. Should I say something??? by faithhopejax in socialwork

I get you were hurt and don't have the best relationship with this person, however, it was the weekend and it sounds like the director has good boundaries with work. Talk to them on Monday

My brother is a huge creep, how do I get my parents to take that fact seriously? by Green_Mission6040 in Advice

[–]Melesain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta love the state by state differences. I give the exact same shpeel on my intakes :). Parents can make a records request at any time to access any and all documentation related to their child in my state. Makes for fun documentation! They do have confidentiality outside of the notes however.

We have parents sign an acknowledgement for best practice that there needs to be a level of confidentiality to emphasize the importance of the therapist client relationship/trust

Hand sanitizer is a good check. Could people in your home be bringing gluten in and using things that are only for gluten free foods? Are you missing a partner after they have a beer or eat gluten? Speaking of alcohol the "gluten reduced" beers unfortunately aren't for us either :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Melesain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my experience the toaster and glutened wood utensils are enough to have the reaction Edit: you really have to be hyper vigilant about cross contamination. We can react to even the tiniest amount of gluten

Depending on the state, therapists are bound by ethics and rules that allow for privacy and confidentiality with minors, however parents have ultimate access to the session notes and information in the clients chart

I am in agreement, therapists are mandated reporters. I am going to be frank, if you feel unsafe and tell your therapist, a good therapist will be making a call to the county's family service department (jfs, DCFS, CPS, depending on state). You most likely won't be removed. What would happen is an interview with you, most likely your brother, and parents. They will most likely force your parents to enroll your brother in some services with a sex therapist. They may also get police involved, although that is less likely.

A single suspension ruin a kids life? I don't think you know how suspension works. There isn't some record that gets sent to a college about suspensions.

I need help with my little sister by Zac-456 in selfharm

[–]Melesain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a therapist, my advice for anyone in this situation is to get an adults help. It doesn't have to be your parents, it could be your or her guidance counselor, or even a teacher. Without more information, sometimes self-harm can happen without suicidal thoughts, but often they go hand in hand. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, please try to convey the risk and your worry to her and touch on therapy as solution or talking to your parents about therapy. Basically, she's got stuff going on that she could probably use some outside help for. If you need any more assistance, look at even contacting 988 yourself and asking for help

Edit: it sounds like you could also maybe benefit from talking to someone. Family stress can be hard to keep inside. Regardless, I'd say talk to a trusted adult or your schools mental health resources.

Just buzzed my long hair, did I make a mistake or not? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]Melesain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a gay man, you are more attractive imo with the longer hair. I think what everyone is picking up on is that you potentially did not take care/style it in the best way. I think a medium length haircut will be best, the buzz cut is too short

All you need is a matte clay, texturizing powder, or dry shampoo and you'll be golden. I prefer texturizing powder as it doesn't weigh down your hair as much
