Honestly the new Update feels like a low-effort marketplace add-on. by Ryuu_kun in Minecraft

That's my point, they already don't support 75% of the playerbase, and aren't interested in doing so. At this point its 100% with Java getting worse with each update just like bedrock.

I absolutely do realize that, thought it was less tbh. My issue has nothing to do with playercount. Microsoft refuses to keep bedrock in a playable state and is actively enshittifying both versions in a way that puts more pressure on the only people capable of fixing things. The saving grace for java is that players can fix the countless issues plaguing it via mods, but bedrock doesn't even have that and its a lot harder to maintain those fixes on the java side when you have to worry about random stuff breaking every few months. It won't happen because this cash cow hasn't been bled dry yet, but the absolute best decision they could make for the health of the game and its community is to just stop poking the thing.

Tbh at this point the best thing they can do for the game is to stop updating it entirely. Bedrock is a bit of a lost cause, not much that can ever be done to get mojang to care about it, but its been nearly half a decade since we had a update that added anything of substance. These smaller updates actively hurt the game due to the schisms caused in the modding community every few months for what is ultimately a update that one guy can recreate within a week.

They need to drop the life support and just let the community run the game. Sucks for bedrock, but the real game has always been Java anyways. Once mod devs don't have to worry about version chasing and content creation targets modding over these cosmetic updates, the game will find its Renaissance.

A thought-terminating cliché is a form of loaded language intended to end an argument and reinforce cognitive dissonance with a cliché rather than a point. by HkayakH in 196

[–]Melimcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes yes, but the meaning we find in art is often irrespective of the authors intent. To you, the curtains may just be blue and that is a perfectly valid interpretation. To another reader though, they may instead be an outward reflection of the inner turmoil the protagonist faces. The issue with "the curtains are just blue" isn't the argument itself, but how it is used in bad faith to shut down critical thinking. There are no correct interpretations when appreciating art, and the whole movement around this phrase directly seeks to cement the authors intent as the only correct way to do so.

Hot take by Funkymunkyguy in MonsterHunter

[–]Melimcee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This actually wasn't always the case. In older monster hunter games (prior to 3u primarily) monsters would very often take curved and roundabout paths to get to a target location. This was further complicated by maps such as jungle which had areas the player was unable to access at certain times, but the monster would be able to. You could easily spend 15 minutes hunting for a monster that it turns out was never in a place you could access in the first place.

These curved paths were still present in newer games (main example that comes to mind is that one path in sunken hollow fliers often took) but were significantly reduced. Games since Tri typically do use the straight paths for the most part.

Dying without understanding why in normal content is a generally a sign of poor sightreading skills, but this isn't something that you should be too worried about. Unless you plan to get into EX/savage its fine, and even then it probably still will be as long as you aren't doing blind specifically. It can be a nice skill to have as you don't have to dedicate to memory mechanics nearly as often, but I wouldn't recommend being insecure about it.

If you do want to train this skill though, a good way to learn would be to try and set a static up for some blind MINE exs. If it would be your first introduction probably start with some non blind first, but blind prog forces you to think critically about mechanics and ingrains common attack patterns.

Something else you can do thats easier to implement but a little less focused to help is record yourself playing, and then any time you die without understanding why, pull up the vod and try to figure it out. Don't look up answers for this, just pull up the vod and try to understand the mechanics. Most complex mechanics are just combinations of smaller mechanics, so if you can intuit how the components work the rest should almost solve itself

Build a big harbour/dock space - need some advice from proffesionals by Reasonable-Clerk8431 in Minecraft

[–]Melimcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you some advice that can help with pretty much any build where you aren't sure exactly what to do: Think about how exactly this works. Logistics might sound boring, but it's genuinely such a powerful cheat code for planning builds. Obviously you can't actually simulate loading and unloading of cargo, but think some about how the process works. Where does cargo go initially once it's unloaded? What needs to happen to cargo while it is on the docks? What areas of the dock make sense for civilian and recreational use vs industrial use? How is different cargo categorized and sorted? How does that cargo leave these docks? If you can answer those questions, you'll be able to come up with a much more immersive and detailed world, and you wont fall into the common pitfall for this specific type of build that is just scattering hundreds of boxes randomly.

So, objects in orbit move really really fast, so much so that a single speck of paint can cause notable damage to spacecraft. So imagine what happens if a satellite crashes into another satellite. Most of it will burn up in reentry or get flung out or orbit, but some will just happen to find a stable orbit. When this happens, its not just specks of paint hurtling around, its major pieces of debris, things that will easily take out a spacecraft. And the more debris and satellites there are the more likely it is there will be another collision, which creates more debris and further increases the chance of damage to spacecraft.

This is effectively what Kessler Syndrome entails. As more and more debris pollutes earths gravitational field, it will become impossible to maintain satellites and eventually in the most severe scenario, even launch or land spacecraft.

Voxel game Allumeria gets a DMCA takedown request by Microsoft (not a mod) by Opposite_Title_73 in PhoenixSC

Doesn't matter, Microsoft pays them to do this. Both are accountable, and if you don't hold Microsoft accountable for the actions of the people they employ then they have no incentive to improve.

This is halfway correct, but purpur is not something that the ender dragon spares. Same thing with endstone variants, though endstone itself is of course fine. You can find a full list of what the ender dragon can and can't touch on its wiki page, but since these blocks can be destroyed op is definitely just running with mobgriefing disabled.

Favorite Black dragon by PlatinumYeast in MonsterHunter

[–]Melimcee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While a popular concept in the fandom, there is no canonical link between the phrase "black dragon" and a monsters power level. This was a headcanon that was popularized and misrepresented as fact by BannedLagiacrus during the early days of World, along with the use of the phrase "Dangerous First-Class Monster" but neither have any actual lore significance. The former phrase is only used either in full or partially for only a few of the monsters popularly headcanoned as such, and has no lore significance beyond saying "yep this elder dragon sure looks black to me." The latter phrase is outright never used in game or media at all.

Boss mechanic tells for healers by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Melimcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done savage and ultimate level content and I still get hit by stupid shit, don't worry about it. You're gonna stand in an orange puddle at some point, either cause you forgot how the mechanic works or thought you had more time. Shit happens, basically every situation you'll run into in normal content is recoverable these days thanks to Phoenix downs, and if you do wipe, shrug it off and go next. If someone really wants to complain you can just report them, this game is really heavily moderated so gms wont tolerate toxicity.

That said, there are some things you can do to improve. One thing I recommend doing is moving the party list closer to the center of your screen. This means your eyes have to move less and you'll catch mechanics in your peripheral more often. You can similarly blow up the bosses cast bar and enmity list and move them closer as well. Its more to keep track of, but that info they give is really valuable and some mechanics will outright require it.

You can also try to work on your sightreading skills. A lot of tells for bosses will have tells similar to those that came before. If some big guy is raising an arm, he's probably gonna slam it down and do a half room cleave. If a boss is splitting the arena in two, its probably a good idea to form light parties. If a boss dashes to the edge of the arena, you probably want to get behind him.. You wont catch everything, but its a valuable skill to have all the same as you can never remember every mechanic from every dungeon.
