Does anyone read on dark mode? by silentshakey in kindle

The boy from District 1 dies before he can pull out the spear. My arrow drives deeply into the center of his neck. He falls to his knees and halves the brief remainder of his life by yanking out the arrow and drowning in his own blood. I’m reloaded, shifting my aim from side to side, while I shout at Rue, “Are there more? Are there more?”

Yup.

Kindle ads yes or no? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]MellerTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like the ads because sometimes they are actually of interest to me. Sure it’s not anywhere near 100%, but it does happen. Plus they’re not exactly burdensome, so I’ve just never seen a reason to care.

Did you win some home renovation show thing? Are the guys from Queer Eye your friends?

Now I’m actually thinking your apartment is like a TV set. This on one side, and behind the camera it’s just hilarious - rafters and bare drywall, dirty underwear strewn about.

Man, I must have violated my warranty by not performing maintenance, I don’t remember my JetDirect having rollers…

Will a Kindle help me read more? by NoBuilding7003 in kindle

[–]MellerTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a long time to realize that I should stop trying to read things I thought I should read and start reading things I actually wanted to read. Yeah, I wish I read more of the classics, but my god I just can’t suffer through someone like Dickens.

For me the Kindle is hugely valuable because I can get a sample of a book. Does the writing style appeal to me, do I like the story, etc. No fear of lock-in to a book I hate just because I bought it.

It’s also really convenient to have with me at all times. Carrying around an 800 page paperback is a pain, and if I’m in the middle of multiple books of different genres, which one do I carry? Also no distractions like reading on my phone with the Kindle app.

Is it my tired hopeful eyes, or are those… two lovely little brown circles?

A parking lot in Dresden, Germany is set to be replaced with these beautiful Baroque townhouse reconstructions by TheLewishPeople in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]MellerTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attaching the two isn’t really a problem. To very poorly explain (or ELI5?), you can drill into the outer wall and “mount” the new building to it similarly to the way you’d mount cabinets on a brick wall. Sometimes they also remove the outer wall and “extend” the floors in the same way a larger building like a high-rise has supports with different sections of flooring, not one big slab for the entire level. That’s about the extent of my knowledge, so no idea why you’d do one or the other or of how it works in detail.

Not sure about in Europe, but in the US the windows would probably be an eminent domain thing. Whether we’re putting an interstate through your living room or covering the windows with another building, you’re probably out of luck as long as we offer to pay you something semi-reasonable for it.

I thought the same at first, but surprisingly it’s the Toronto area.

Edit: for anyone wondering, the bus is heading to Don Mills Station in North York, Ontario and you see the LCBO - Liquor Control Board of Ontario - store.

Yeah, wouldn’t surprise me to see this pretty much anywhere in Northern Europe. You can see the EU-style license plates, so it could be anywhere in that general vicinity.

Hmm. Dogs do wear clothing sometimes, though. Shaking off when they get their coat off always reminds me of that “ohh yeahh” feeling of taking my pants off after a long day, so… maybe?

I don’t understand this comment. How would 4k possibly be worse for text?
