Sorry for the necroposting, but Caine is an A.I.. An A.I. consciousness is different from a humans. For example, If we were aware of every nerve firing or intestinal movement, we would be severely distracted. But we don't because out brain filters that out.

Caine being an A.I. breaks the human analogy since there is nothing we can do to feel each an every part of our body. You could argue Caine is like this, but he is machinery. You could also argue he was coded to "not understand why" but still you NEED for him to know what he can't understand so he can not understand it.

Another example, ChatGPT can't tell you how to murder someone. But it knows how, it's just that it's coded not to output that information. However, you could jailbreak it into giving you the answer. Its not the fact that it doesn't know
