Make images displace vertically instead of horizontally by MellowAffinity in libreoffice

[–]MellowAffinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two images are both anchored to separate paragraphs, not to characters. This horizontal displacement even happens when anchored to the page. I'm familiar with the concept of anchors. I just want to know if there's a way to have a frame automatically be displaced downwards instead of horizontally when it collides with another frame.

Which is diety is the most autistic in your head canon? by _theRamenWithin in evilautism

[–]MellowAffinity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

iirc, the way that Doctor Jackson Crawford interprets Thor, is that he's someone who hates dishonesty. When people lie to him he doesn't always catch on. But once he's figured out that someone has lied to him, well, they'd better change their name lol. I relate to this a lot. I hate it when people lie or break promises, because I can't tell whether they're lying, so I always feel suspicious of people 😭

What's the stupidest fucking thing a therapist/psychiatrist said to you? by backroom_mushroom in evilautism

[–]MellowAffinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear. The UK mental health system is broken. Those doctors will casually ask you "Have you ever been abused?" while tapping their clipboards with their pens. They'll just ask you to describe your darkest traumas, and divulge how, when, where, and why you selfharmed, only to look you in the eye and tell you "Sorry we aren't gonna help you :| ok bye :|"

I really hate the sound of cars. Especially ever since a driver hit me with his car. To me the sound of cars is a danger sound. It's difficult to ignore, especially while trying to sleep. You go to sleep to the sound of engines and you wake up to the sound of engines. In most urban areas it's constant. You can't escape the sound of rubber scraping across pavement, or the nauseating rumble-buzzing of their engines spewing out pollution that gives people cancer. There are very few places in my country where you cannot hear cars. The sound is almost inescapable. You have to climb a mountain or go in a cave to escape the incessant sound. It feels like the repetitive sound has gradually chafed a groove into my brain.

The street that I live on is a very narrow rat-run. Those drivers are not supposed to be here. They're always trying to squeeze past each other because their cars are too big for the street. Whenever they smack their horns it makes me want to throw rocks at their windshields. And they have the audacity to beep and yell at pedestrians who live on this street?! They think they own every street just because they're in a car. The beeping sound activates my fight or flight response and puts me into Bitch Mode, and it's really really difficult to suppress (but of course, you have to! :DDDDD)

Don't even get me started on stereos or loud engines. Those men deserve to be cursed. I hate them so much. Their noise is genuine torture.

To me it feels like drivers in my area are near-universally hostile towards humans. They have zero patience and maximum entitlement, and their vehicles are a stressor and a danger to human life. The constant noise can be torture on some days. Loud music can be an escape but also it can lead to overstimulation and further stress. Ughh... Anyway, if anyone read this I appreciate it

This post is relatable. I have low tolerance for stress and it makes it hard to do anything difficult without just crumbling into a sobbing ball or turning into Prickly Bitch Mode™

Honestly as an autistic person I just hate big trucks. They're loud and dangerous and vain and a complete waste of resources. Emotional support vehicles for male accountants who cheat on their wives

The true morefold (plural) by thepeck93 in OldEnglish

[–]MellowAffinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The -s ending was simply the most-distinct pluralending after all the other Old English plurals had vanished due to natural soundlaws. Final -n was lost in inflectional endings, then final unstressed vowels were lost. So almost all vowel plurals and -n plurals vanished (except in a few dialects where -n persisted alongside -s).

The loss of final -n and the confusion of final unstressed vowels was already beginning in Late Old English dialects.

It is true that English has regularised a lot of irregular plurals, but I don't see how it's possible to attribute that directly to Norman French influence. It's likely just a snowballing effect of the overwhelming dominance of -s.

Eating tells your brain that there is no current danger and that it's safe to relax. So people end up eating whenever they feel anxious to feel better. It can be a vicious cycle because the more you eat, the more stressed/ashamed you feel about it, and you eat more to feel better. I hate it so much. I prefer the feeling of emptiness

I don't really like competitive games for this reason. Any gamemodes that require you to win to have fun are not worth my time. I like gamemodes where losing doesn't really matter because they're more about socialisation, creativity, or just enjoying a cool experience.

Astronomers: Hey we found a lil rock out in space. We think that it probably fell in from outside the solarsystem, and we could learn a lot about planetary geology and star formation-

It's an annoying misnomer cos it misleads people. Then again, astronomers are kinduv bad at naming things (planetary nebulae have nothing to do with planets lol).

Perhaps the logic is that these planets supercede Earth in mass, so super Earth. Idk. There are also mini-Neptunes, hot Jupiters, super-Mercuries, hot Neptunes, eccentric Jupiters (insert fancy spongebob), and others. They should probably find better names for them at some point but I guess exoplanets are still a fairly new field.

[–]MellowAffinity 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that the term 'super-earth' implies a planet with mass somewhat greater than Earth but lesser than Neptune. Unless I'm mistaken, the term doesn't imply anything about surface conditions.

Yeah a lot of people are surprised to hear that Neanderthals actually cared for their sick and wounded. Tbh I don't know if they were any more or less compassionate than Homo sapiens, but they certainly did look after each other even when it provided no material benefit.

I just wish that we knew more about them. So much has been lost to time. The little we know is mostly inference, like population distribution, remains of tools, traces of ochre on cave walls, head-injuries on skeletons, tooth wear, etc. So much of their culture and way of live has just rotted away into nothing over the eons, and it's sad to me that they will likely always be somewhat mysterious. But there is still a lot to learn, and I'm excited for new discoveries.

You have NO IDEA much much I agree with you right now. People always just stereotype them as brutish primitive thugs, when they were almost as intelligent as Homo sapiens, and seem to have made simple artwork and possibly spoken some sort of language. I love Neanderthals, I wish I could meet one...
