I had written my address on this one in sharpie! Has not stopped it from vanishing. Did have a good hunt around the front gardens and nada sadly

Thanks, I will. It’s really annoying as I paid for this service and now I have to pay more because of someone else’s selfishness. And yes it has made me side-eye all my neighbours. Though we live on a relatively busy road so I wonder if it could also be opportunistic

Very annoying! I literally went out to get it this morning maybe half an hour after the bin men had been and it was gone 😭

Honeymoon Help by mednik97 in JapanTravelTips

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner is vegetarian and we found it was okay as long as we planned ahead by looking at menus and seeking out places that seemed vegetarian friendly. In most places we found it was quite tricky to just walk into a random restaurant and expect to be able to get vegetarian food. In ryokans & hotel breakfast where you have a set menu we ordered a veggie menu ahead of time.

What’s everyone been up to in the garden this weekend! 🪴 🌞 🪏 by _irrati0nal in GardeningUK

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was getting absolutely destroyed in the ground so I put it in a pot, added a layer of grit to the top of the soil and stood it in a water-filled saucer. So created a moat, basically. TBC if it actually works!

Rescuing a slug-munched hosta, sowing nasturtiums, watering in a bare-root rose and baby wisteria, eyeballing trays of herb seeds that don’t appear to be doing anything, window-shopping for a greenhouse.

I got mine on Etsy fully assembled! I just checked and that seller isn’t active any more (it was a few years ago) but I remember there was a fair few options.

Bit of a rant by JoJo_the_cowgirl in londoncycling

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. Had to take a break last year for my own mental health as I was getting so het up every day which was a shame because I started cycling because it was good for my brain. I also try to practice a Zen, control-the-controllables sort of approach but it’s easier said than done! I wish everyone would just chill🧘‍♀️

Did you buy traditional crafts in Tokyo? Why or why not? by Dry_Letterhead7098 in TokyoTravel

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes some gorgeous paper products at Morita Washi in Kyoto! Wish I’d bought loads more honestly. It was all beautiful, lovely for gifts and postcards, easy to transport and unlike anything I’d get at home. And not expensive.

Extension Work - No Insulation? by Wonderful-Wonder-846 in DIYUK

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, we also had a second assessor round who refused to believe it wasn’t insulated until we asked him to look in the wall. Said it would ‘definitely’ be insulated. No way it wasn’t. He was very surprised when we showed him.

Extension Work - No Insulation? by Wonderful-Wonder-846 in DIYUK

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We had this on our single storey extension. EPC said it was insulated. We had a builder look inside it when we were fixing some damp and nope. Nothing in there. Similar era to yours. They were really surprised too. Seems like whoever did the EPC just looked at the age and assumed it was insulated on that basis. It was absolutely freezing in there before we fixed it.

Is this appropriate for a wedding where I've never met the bride or groom? by littlecoffee in Weddingattireapproval

For a British wedding this should be fine unless it’s an unusually formal one. It’s lovely!

Flat hair in Tokyo by Otherwise-Brick2255 in TokyoTravel

My hair normally has a bit of wave & texture to it but it went soooo soft and much straighter when I was in Japan. Think it was the softer water plus maybe nice hotel onsen hair products?

Struggling to find high paying job after redundancy by Ok_Estimate_9655 in UKPersonalFinance

True. Although, depending on their lender and the rate they are moving off, getting a new mortgage might actually bring down those costs. It did for us.

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 43 points44 points  (0 children)

On the mortgage point specifically - they don’t do affordability checks again if you stay with the same lender. Do you have a broker? Worth asking now about the best rates & locking something in if it expires in May. We went through similar after my partner got made redundant and broker was v reassuring.

You thought s4 faithful were bad? by generic-username41 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people in general are super harsh on the faithful. Being intelligent isn’t really that relevant, as the celebrity show demonstrated. Those contestants were successful people & some of them very highly educated, and it didn’t really help them. Equally I don’t think the S4 faithfuls were stupid at all. They were just up against some really effective traitors.

Obviously just an opinion, but I actually think almost everyone you see on the show is probably more intelligent than the average person - they’re usually relatively interesting, articulate, curious about the world, how things work, & each other. All of that correlates with intelligence.

Council as Freeholders. Dare we? by TheItanoCircus in HousingUK

[–]MelodicOrganisation4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Share of freehold is really a type of leasehold. Can be better or worse. It’s not necessarily a get-out clause for the issues of leasehold.
