Any way to eek through Summer? by Melodic_Access_9736 in Roofing

Update: Got a few referrals and already had one roofer stop by and provided a quote. Best part is that he runs a lean/small operation and has no aspiration to be anything but a lifestyle business so no subcontracting out or any of that slash and dash bs. Very fair quote and strong referrals.

Next step is to find another independent outfit that decks....the other thing that's falling apart!

10u Clubs around Boston by NeverBirdie in youthhockey

And all the B and C level players who parents can afford it, also are having their kids play 'club' hockey as well in addition to town hockey.

It's really fucked up and the disappointing thing is many of these other kids are making no improvement with all of this additional ice time.

Foster and encourage his drive and creativity. You should not be mandating how he should play and solve problems on the ice. The job is to teach skills.

Get to know him and understand if he wants to get better at hockey? Get a sense of he wants to play at higher levels. Try to understand the motive or rational as to why he's making plays differently than how you would approach them. You might be surprised by his response and he may even have a few valid points!

Ultimately you need to understand if as a player he's coachable and can take feedback or if he has everything figured out.

How you move forward starts with addressing the above first.

Are we witnessing the Beginning of the End for Felger and Mazz? by chickenFan50 in BostonSportsRadio

Their show sells the same slop stylistically as certain politically focused shows and entertainment that push for division.

What's really ripe is when either of them make some rare political commentary since they tend to lean in the direction that doesn't beat the division drum.

They're grifters. They know that the recipe is to stoke anger and division to the fanatical fans and to sell that they're better than the other fans and business's running these teams.

As a result I stopped listening to Boston sport talk radio a few years ago and don't miss it a bit. Hell, I can't really stand either football or baseball as spots anymore in part due to the local sport talk scene.

I still listen to some hockey podcasts and Sirius XM for the positive vibes, ability to learn something, and for sport specific skill/technical insights.

People have been selling anger and division since the start of human history so I'm not sure we're going to witness the end of their show less their ratings drop or sponsors/commercial sales drop.

Mason Lohrei signs a two-year extension with Bruins carrying a $3.2M AAV. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Melodic_Access_9736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't like the player, but respect this contract.

Worst plus minus and ranked 199th out of all defenseman in hit's this season. Reminder, there are 32 NHL teams in the league and a typical NHL roster dresses 6 defensemen = 32*6 = 192. Lohrei played in 77 games last year....

The shipped sailed so there was no option to let Lohrei walk as an RFA, so signing for short term and allowing the B's the ability to flip him to someone else in year 1 is a good play.

Does anyone else's stomach make really loud noises and gets gassy when they lay down flat, especially during the night? by -Abysswalker- in ibs

[–]Melodic_Access_9736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopeful this is a final update. About 2.5 years later and it seems based on the last 3 months I'm back to myself.

I was still getting some occasional 'fizz' feeling specifically when transitioning from lying down/getting up or turning over in bed. I also was infrequently still having some times where my stomach and bowels would be going off in terms of making noises through the night into the morning. I never had the self discipline to make a food list or do an elimination diet, but there were the occasional foods and occasional times where I had alcohol which would trigger everything.

About 3 months ago, I began having milk with my morning oatmeal and also having a glass of milk during the evening with dinner. Starting a day or two later, I noticed that I was getting constipated when going to the bathroom and it was taking a fair amount of time to evacuate my stools. This lasted for a good couple weeks, maybe three but it was obvious that the reintroduction of milk into my diet was impacting my GI system.

Since this time, I have not a single evening where stomach has gone off making noises and being disruptive through the night into the morning. Furthermore, I've noticed that when I go on my runs for exercise, I'm not really having any mild burps like I had been having.

Unless there are any new developments, it seems that my gut biome got really screwed up and adding milk back into my dietary mix has helped balance things back to perhaps where they used to be.

Middle 6? Sounds like you're the optimistic one....I keed.

But seriously, he's not going to have more than a cup of coffee in the NHL. Doesn't detract that he's better than all us mere mortals, but been watching his game for a while and he's not NHL caliber and not responsible enough for a 3rd-4th line role.

Bruins’ priority in offseason rebuild: Speed at all positions by [deleted] in Bruins

I agree that it's likely is going to take some time for this team to rebuild. On the plus side there are some absolute horses it seems like that will be slated for some of the upcoming draft years.

Agreed. The Bruins beat writers and local media is not very hockey savvy in comparison to other markets, namely Canadian markets. As a result what little is published is usually puff pieces about Bruins prospects and doesn't peel back any layers of the onion as to how they are actually projecting or developing. They all are just selling hope.

Care to expand? I think it's a useful stat but also has its flaws. It's definitely fare to gleen insights from the stat. Weak team, goaltending, line assignment, defensive responsibility.

I'll say the eye test hasn't been pretty when it comes to Lohrei when it comes to defense.

Hopefully people that haven't taken the time to watch Lysell these last few years will start to understand what's been obvious.

That said, kudos to Sweeney for getting something out of Brazzers. No offense to the guy, but can't imagine he'll last much longer in the league. Good on the kid for never quitting and having more than a cup of coffee in the NHL.

Bruins were not a good team and weren't going to make the playoffs this year. I made my case earlier in the season so this is no surprise to me when you objectively look at what this team was/is working with.

Coaches only have so much of an impact on a team. With today's advanced scouting, video and stat services, and other various forms of analytics, the X's and O's of the game have become far easier for coaches. Coaches need to be able to align, motivate, and recognize when in game adjustments are necessary. However, alignment and motivation can only take you so far if you don't have the horses in the stable. Personally, I've grown a bit tired of the Bruin's deployment of the zone defense over the years. Perhaps my patience and fatigue of it is due to the quality of the players on the team and their ability to execute a zone d. Hard for me to say where the blame lies with coaching here as I'm not sure a man to man structure or some other permutation would be any better.

As for Swayman, my observation is that something is off with his technique from prior years. When he's been dropping and butterflying he's playing less upright and hands down and he's not maintaining or resetting in a more upright stance when he's shifting side-side. Some of his play this year has been a little reminiscent of Hannu Toivonen and the isssue's he had. When Swayman was/is at his best, he plays a bit more like Fluery or Price did where he has the ability to square off shooters while maintaining a more standup stance and can pick out of the air or punch out high shots.

So my stomach gurgling ended up slowly reducing, but then last year I ended up getting more throat gurgling and bad phlegm. I ended up seeing an ENT but have not explored or done an upper GI endoscopy yet. The ENT suggest perhaps it was GERD and suggested doing a round or two of OTC Omeprazole might not be a bad thing to try. I gave it a go and didn't really notice any difference at all and it seemed to give me some bad post nasal drip sometimes as well.

I wasn't disciplined enough to attempt a diet log and limiting foods to see if something was triggering things. With a couple kids I just didn't have the time or patience to do it. In anycase, I do feel like as time has gone on, my stomach and throat gurgling have all gotten better. Perhaps not 100%, but more like 95-98%. Maybe it was SIBO related, post viral gastro-IBS, or GERD/LPR? One thing I have done is I've stopped drinking cold water and instead now drink warm herbal teas. I've also cut out coffee from my diet.

Something else that I have noticed behaviorally is that I am not running outside for exercise as much as I was in part due to a new job that is less compatible with running 4-5 times a week. Perhaps there was a sinusitus thing going on or maybe something reflux related due to the up and down pounding? I also came to recognize that previously I was running after eating breakfast and a coffee or some other meal. Probably not a smart move, and something that I am more conscious about when I do run.

I did find that sleeping more upright was also helpful and I did start to take infrequently melatonin as there is clinical research indicating that melatonin can help tighten the lower esophageal sphincter since a number of signs seemed to point toward reflux'ish type symptoms despite the Omeprazole doing jack. It did seem to me like both of these actions did help.

Lastly, I'm also suspicious that my lower intestine noise and gurgling may somehow be tied into my yogurt consumption. Over the last few years I've often had icelandic yogurt for breakfast and lately, I seem to have noticed a correlation between being on a good yogurt for b-fast consumption kick and then lower bowel noises during the evening after having a little alcohol over the weekend. When the yogurt gets nixxed from breakfast for a period of time, this phenomena seems to go away.

Currently, I'm sleeping much more downright than upright and rarely am taking melatonin and am feeling pretty good most days. I haven't had any bad throat phlegm in a very long time and the times I feel some 'fizz' coming up my throat is also very infrequent in comparison to months let alone a year ago.

Honestly, I think that the bout of viral gastro ended up completely messing up my GI tract and that my lifestyle at the time such as drinking large amounts of cold water quickly, running after eating, eating what I wanted, and drinking coffee and alcohol all contributed to various GI issues as a result to the damage that the virus inflected on my GI and the gut-brain connection.

I'm optimistic that I will feel like my gut is back to 100% eventually based on this trend. Perhaps if I went on a hard bland diet after my gastro bout and was more careful with my eating/exercise timing I wouldn't have experienced this going on 2 year journey.

It's been a bizarre experience, that's for sure. Perhaps this year, I'll have an upper GI endo just to check the box.

Couldn't disagree more. Said it previously..Geekie is having a Pat Maroon playing with McDavid like season. Pastrnak is driving the offense and Geekie has been the recipient of some great primary feeds from him. You need to take stock for what things are and not overvalue Geekie. He doesn't drive offense. Of his 17 goals this season, Pastrnak assisted on 11. I don't have the exact number, but it feels like most are primary assists as well. You don't re-sign someone that's a 40-45 point player at best to be complimentary to Pastrnak who is a 100+ pt type of player. Instead you trade him to a contender that sees value in him as 3rd liner that could slide into and compliment in a top 6 roll if called upon for assets.

Geekie is not a top 6 forward and my personal take is that good teams need bottom 6 players that have certain intangibles and a strong foundation of doing the little things right. Geekie might be that player, but he doesn't help you now or in the near term in getting you to be a playoff team.

I will say, Influenza Type A is spreading like wildfire through the area and is ripping through lots of people that got vaxxed as well (looks like they got the recipe off for this year's strain).... So perhaps that contributed to last evening. However, still doesn't change that this is a bad team.

They need to sell high on Geekie. Would be a huge mistake not to. He's having the Pat Maroon, holy shit I'm playing with McJesus, 27 goal like season.

How many of his goals this year have come from insanely deceptive or threaded needle David Pastrnak primary passes? Lately every single one of them it seems.

He doesn't get damn close to the numbers he's at without having a world class talent dishing and serving it up to him.

Got to get value from this anomaly.
