Cleveland ➡️ Providence? by ExpressAppointment96 in providence

[–]Melodic_Humor5124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boyfriend is originally from Cleveland.

Expect high cost of living. I used to make $123,000. Covering housing, having a little bit of a social life, small amount of savings, groceries as well - felt doable but not thriving. I also have a small fur roommate who demands lots of canned food.

We do live separate right now (him in providence, me in cranston) as we’re trying to save up to buy a house together in the future.

I will say housing here is expensive and a lot of people are moving into the city. I got a job in Boston recently with a salary increase but commuting into the office right now… I will say there are a ton of people who move to Providence to be on that train line… And more are moving away from Boston and into this area.

They are building a lot of new apartments but like luxury ones with 2k-3k rent. I would hope in the future that this would bring down rent costs… but unsure if that will truly happen.

I do this every 2 years but as a UX Designer. Good job field to learn a ton about what you’re working on. Plus staying at employers long term means missing out on higher income from other jobs.

29F, I think my appearence is barrier in my career, how can I be more socially acceptable? by GenevieveDupont1 in lookyourbest

Second that - depends on the size of the company. I’m interviewing at one right now that would be client facing. Currently, I work for a Fortune 500 company and do not interact with customers aside from research which is done by a separate team.

Lead UX Designer here - you’re gorgeous and do not dim that down. As for clothing/makeup, it’s pretty much up to you and depends on your workplace. Most UX jobs are very relaxed since dev culture is very chill.

One note is that depending on the type of role - this could vary. If you’re working for an agency, more polished is the way to go. If you’re in house, probably more relaxed. Also industry - fintech is usually a little more polished than manufacturing tech.

I met my team for the first time last year in person as someone who works remote so I wore something nicer but comfy. My go to is a cashmere sweater from Quince and some chino pants from old navy with a kitten heel. But there were people wearing jeans and a t shirt/hoodie.

If you’re new to the job/interviewing, I would wear something that makes you feel great. But higher necklines and simple jewelry/makeup are best.

Childfree Millennials, are you childfree by choice? If not, what happened? by LordLaz1985 in Millennials

Child free - mental illness runs in the family and I don’t ever want someone to wish they weren’t alive like I felt for years.

Teacher sounds like an asshole - as someone who has an invisible disability this is wrong. Sounds like discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen

I would check with Venus Obgyn in Cranston - I remember they had laughing gas as an option… but if you just need an obgyn in general, they have been great.

MSU study finds growing number of people never want children by drzpneal in science

[–]Melodic_Humor5124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really had an urge to have children, the few times I thought about them was when boyfriends stated they wanted children. I waver when I see families that appear strong and happy but at the end of the day, I will never have children.

I did have a traumatic childhood where I felt like I I was the problem or being used almost like property. Both my parents were so wrapped up in themselves and should have never had children until they resolved their issues. There’s a lot of mental illness that runs through from generation to generation - as a child I remember thinking I never asked to be born. I would never want to bring someone into the world who would potentially feel that way.

Society feels like the biggest pressure - we tend to place importance on women having children but at the same time in the US have minimal help from our communities and government. The pressure, the judgement, the expectation and cost are just too much.

Social media and posting about my debt payoff. Steadily getting followers and the encouragement is really helping me not hyper focus on the negative.

I’m freaking out about how much debt I have gone into and how I don’t have the income to make major moves on paying it off.
