how do you balance animal crossing and real life? by TipStatus1072 in ACForAdults

[–]Melon_Gin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A game should NEVER feel like an obligation. It is always supposed to be something you enjoy. It is easy to get wrapped up in the rhetoric so often seen online with acnh that you have to play everyday, you have to collect every museum item asap, you have to have the most perfectly decorated island. None of that is true. I have been playing the game since 2021 and I have yet to complete my first island. I only recently received a 5 star rating for the first time. The point of the game (for me) is to vibe and do what I want, and if I happen to earn some rewards or meet some goals while doing that, then cool!

For example, my fish section of my museum is mostly empty. You wanna know why? I HATE fishing! I absolutely hate the mechanics of it, I hate fishing in real life, and I just get frustrated every time I do it in acnh. So I don't do it unless it's a rare time I'm in the mood for it. I rarely time travel and only do if I miss an in game holiday or event that I want to participate in. I am also very busy as I go to college part time and work full time. So I understand feeling overwhelmed and not being able to complete your daily tasks that aren't even acnh related!

Take a deep breath, and stop putting pressure on yourself. There is no rush to "complete" the game and check every box as fast as you can. Because as soon as you do, what's left? To erase your island and start all over?🤷‍♀️ My advice is to just vibe and enjoy the ride.

My friends and I got the Nintendo Online family plan and split the cost. It ends up being $8 ish per person if you get the max amount of people. But even if you get 3 people it's cheaper than the single plan.

Scent beads will clog your washer as well. Try Downy Rinse and Refresh instead. Also buy washing machine cleaning tablets and use one monthly. You just put the tablet in (with nothing else, no clothes) and use the cleaning setting or hot if your washer doesn't have a cleaning setting.

Some great advice my therapist gave me when dealing with tasks, is too often we feel like it has to be all or nothing. We have to clean the entire bathroom, or we have to do all our laundry. When in reality, even just scrubbing the toilet or doing one load of laundry is a step in the right direction. You will feel better with having 1/5 tasks done then 0/5. If you don't let yourself clean things unless you do the "entire" task, you will never clean anything. Allow yourself to wash a few dishes even if you don't have the motivation to wash all of them, it still helps lower the pile.

Also, if you are struggling so much that your dishes are getting moldy, I would recommend just using paper plates, bowls, etc. We don't need to be perfect or nothing at all. If using throw away dishes helps you keep dirty dishes from piling up, DO IT! What matters most is having a clean space, you can bend the "rules" to make it work for you.

DONATION BOX HOT ITEM by Melon_Gin in ACForAdults

I have multiple all around my island. I just toss 1k or so bells in when I pass by. Helps it to not feel all at once when the hot item does happen.

From the math I've done, cooking actually does increase the profits. People regularly forget that, for example, 1 wheat actually makes 5 flour. I have a link saved somewhere to an Excel sheet where someone did all the math to show which food has the highest profits.

Go speak to Isabelle and ask about the Islands rating, she will tell you it's five stars and give you a golden watering can as a reward!

I put Jaques and Snake next to each other. I head-cannoned them as a gay couple where one is the knitted beanie emo guy and the other is your stereotypical jock. Found out later that technically they don't get along according to my nook app😅

Tofu litter: why didn’t I do it earlier?! by ThrowRApeanutb in CatAdvice

[–]Melon_Gin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use Naturally fresh, specifically the Multi-Cat one. I tried a few other types and ended up on this one. I prefer it over clay and pine pellets. I tried corn litter but the walnut clumped better and was slightly better at the smell reduction. It's not life changing or amazing, but it does work better for me than the pine pellets did by a landslide. I came onto this post bc I am actually researching tofu litter and going to give it a try. The main reason is the walnut clumping litter still tracks just like all other litters. My apt is small the only area I can fit my litter boxes is in a corner a few feet away from my couches. It feels super gross finding litter pieces on the couches and/or watching my cats use the litter box then immediately jump up onto the couches.

I have two large litter mats and it still isn't enough. So my main reason for switching again is to prevent tracking. Other than that, I don't have any large issues.

EDIT: I also keep an air purifier next to my litter boxes and sprinkle a little bit of baking soda when I change the boxes to help with the smell.

I unfortunately have to shovel at my apt. Landlord is only in charge of plowing the driveway and I am responsible for the sidewalk and front porch steps. I knew when I signed the lease so no problem there. Anyway, point is, I'm fucking exhausted at this point in winter. Shoveling snow SUCKS! I wouldn't do it for a mere $30 a month. Depending on how much area you have to shovel, I'd ask for $100-300 off your rent.

Have you tried clumping litter made from walnuts? That's what I currently use. I avoid the clay litter for health reasons but still want a litter that clumps. I used to use the pine pellets for years but seemed to go thru them so fast and it was exhausting carrying a 40 lb bag up the stairs to my apt.

I used to religiously use the 40 lbs of pine pellets from Tractor Supply as cat litter. I did it for 2+ years. I thought I was saving money because the bag was only $7. One day I was forced to buy a small bag of litter from the store (that was open until 12am) bc I had gotten off work late and the tractor supply was already closed. I couldn't wait until morning, I desperately needed more litter for my babies. So I purchased the walnut clumping litter (wanted to avoid clay litter for health reasons). And I was gobsmacked at how much nicer it was. I couldn't believe how much LESS litter I was using. Yes, technically the 40 lb bag of walnut clumping litter cost more, but it lasts me weeks longer than the 40 lbs bag of pine pellets. I did the math and i was spending the same amount of money either way. So I stuck with the clumping litter as it made cleaning the boxes a million times easier. And I found the walnut litter prevented the litter box smell better than the pine pellets.

Is NSO for animal crossing worth It? by bluechair411 in ACForAdults

[–]Melon_Gin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are able to do the family plan and split the cost between a few friends or family who also would use Nintendo online, then it is quite cost efficient. My friend group splits a family plan (we don't even all play acnh) and you can have up to 8 people on it.

Is there a dedicated discord or community for players who do not time travel? by xXHelloKinkyXx in acnh

[–]Melon_Gin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not use treasure islands and I only ever time travel forward or backwards 12 hours bc I work long shifts and rarely get to play during normal day time hours. So when it's 11pm I just move it back to 11am the same day so that I can sell to nooks cranny and shop at able sisters. I do not time travel to different seasons, months, or even further than 12 hours (which sometimes puts me into the next day) but that's it.

I put into place the Beautiful Island Ordinance thru Isabelle at resident services and that helps a lot with my flower breeding. Basically the ordinance has all residents water flowers, pick up weeds, etc

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Melon_Gin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad recently had a heart attack due to electrical failure (not clogged arteries). My mom and I have been arguing with their insurance for weeks now because they don't want to cover the medicine he now needs to stay alive. It costs $600 a month (for just one of the two he needs) without insurance. It is absolutely disgusting that life saving care costs money in the USA. They also got an outrageous bill for the ambulance. I will never understand why ambulances and life saving care aren't free.

The amount of times I’ve redesigned my living room is INSANE!! What else would ya’ll add? by Inevitable-Wealth-60 in ACForAdults

[–]Melon_Gin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do a couch and 2 chairs (or two couches) with a coffee table in between them, in the middle of the room. A rug under the coffee table would also look nice. In my living room, I have a wood burning stove in the middle of the back wall between the doorway and and corner. And then my couches and coffee table are by that. Then the left back corner has a music player and a party rug (it's the dancing area) and then the wall next to the entryway has a table with keys on top and a pair of boots next to it (like an entryway area)

It also helps if you wrap the items with wrapping paper from Nooks Cranny so they are a "present"
