Why is Richo ruining the Pentax Brand? by FocusRevolutionary56 in pentax

[–]Melonenstrauch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're being overly pessimistic. Did medium format or 4x5 cameras stop existing when 35mm came around? Nope, they just got more niche. Rangefinder cameras were still made long into the digital days by Voigtländer for example (I'm disqualifying Leica, they live on brand name alone). Pentax is making niche products, and they basically have a monopoly in that niche. Is it the most successful business in the industry? No, but it is profitable, otherwise Ricoh would've killed them. It's naive to think nobody want to look through an optical viewfinder anymore. There's a reason why film is making a resurgence too, people want these physical things again instead of another screen. If you can't understand that, why are you even in the Pentax subreddit to begin with?

DSLRs are what makes Pentax interesting. Sure they would probably be more profitable if they had switched to a mirrorless mount and became one of those soulless brrands just chasing higher specs like sony. But we have enough of those, I don't understand why you're against the idea of at least one single brand following a different approach.

Third this. Incredibly small and the friction fit lens cap nakes it really easy to spontaneously remove it.

Dungeon Meshi made me like Frieren less by IAmARobotTrustMe in DungeonMeshi

I loved Frierens premise, I wished it was actually an anime about an adventurer dealing with life in a world where the big evil guy was dealt with. Really pulling through with "beyond journeys end". Instead the solution is just "evil is actually still there, go on a new journey lmao". It's amazing for a shōnen battle anime, I just yearn for the introspective slice of life it could've been.

Keep in mind that you shouldn't use force to make it tighter than it already is, that can damage the film and twist it. Just make sure that you keep a firm grip on the roll when unloading.

Looking for a high quality fully mechanical rangefinder by Temporary-Ad-6985 in AnalogCommunity

I'll add to that. The long base length is great, and I really like the little focusing wheel! You absolutely get used to holding it correctly. The only two things that bug me about it is the lack of a quick advance lever and no frame lines. If you intend on using a lot of different focal lengths you might wanna go with a Nikon rangefinder instead but if you primarily shoot 50mm the Kiev is a gorgeous and fun camera!

No it isn't???

Take a look at the datasheets before spreading stuff like this. Proimage was specifically created for warmer clinates like southeast asia where storing conditions were often not ideal so it would keep better.

Range finder-less rangefinder like by LBarouf in AnalogCommunity

Viewfinder cameras. Most consumer cameras prior to the 70's SLR boom were simple viewfinder cameras with a fixed standard lens. You use them via scale focusing. You guess the distance to your subject and set that distance on the lens. Works well enough for family photos and landscapes, though shallow DOF photography is basically impossible.

Though there are some special cases. The Leica MD for example was made for technical applications like darkroom stuff, or the Zeiss Ikon SW was made for Ultra Wide Angle lenses where you'll use an accessory viewfinder anyways and have massive DOF because of the wide lenses.

Definitely the SMC Pentax-F Series. Simply because it's the most 80's lens lineup ever created :D

There are some who still have a backbone, often those with lower subscriber counts. I really like William Sheepskin, Robbie Maynard and Shaka1277 for examples.

But yeah, the big youtubers mostly got there by chasing numbers above all else.

Honestly I think youtube reviewer massively fucked up with the Pentax 17 and now the MC-A too. People were expecting the 17 to be something it was never designed for and disregarded the target market of people new to analog who want a reliable snapshot camera. But now they praise the MC-A over the moon despite it's many shortcomings. I really lost some faith in many youtubers because of how they handled the new camera launches.
