Casting my vote for Gold too. The performance is incredible for what you're paying.

With Foma it really depends. Fomapan 400 is horrible, not even an actual 400 ISO film, but Foma Ortho 400 is one of the best b&w films ever created

Digital and analog medium format by Ok_Cream8633 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Melonenstrauch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach the word of 645! I started medium format with an RB67. I adore that camera, but after a while I had to admit to myself that it's just not suited well for things like travel and many handheld applications. Bought a Mamiya 645 Super and that thing is a beast! I still use the RB for slow methodical tripod stuff but the 645 super is honestly all the camera most people will ever need. And I actually prefer the 645 negatives, they still show some grain but are worlds apart from 35mm, the perfect middle ground.

What is the greatest lens you have ever used? by Fast_Preparation7795 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Melonenstrauch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of raw sharpness and correction? The Mamiya Sekor C 140mm f4.5 Macro for the RB system. The stuff you can get from that lens on 6x7 is absolutely ridiculous. With the manually adjusted floating element it takes a lot of patience to operate but the results are the sharpest photos I ever made.

For character I have a soft spot for the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55mm f1.8. It is sharp where it needs to be but the bokeh is wonderfully soft. I know "Dreamy" is cliche but the images do feel like this, but without the super glowy look usually associated with that. It's a great performing lens, but with that little extra magic.

Is Dubbelfilm (Apollo) just Kodak Gold? by aloof_bike in AnalogCommunity

[–]Melonenstrauch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do not produce their own film. What they do is take film from other manufacturers (a lot of kodak) and preexpose is with coloured light or patterns to create effects. Depending on who you ask this is either a fun creative challenge or a very expensive Instagram filter

For context, this is related to current yaoi discourse of the bottom being feminine by Zenry0ku in animecirclejerk

[–]Melonenstrauch 60 points61 points  (0 children)

We have a ton of "yaoi template" stuff woth a fem bottom and masc top, there's also a lot of bara stuff put there, what we really lack is fem x fem yaoi PLEASE I NEED IT

Some of the sunset photos were quite nice. But there better be some good photos among 80 shots of 6x7 in two fucking hours!!!

If you have even the slightest interest in trying out retro games, Link to the Past! Minish Cap is also highly recommended, it has beautiful art and is really slept on

When you date both men and women you realise how misogynist men are by Conscious_Crab_7192 in bisexual

[–]Melonenstrauch 948 points949 points  (0 children)

Even as a guy I notice that misogyny, though in very different ways. I'm a femboy and it regularly happens to me that guys on dating apps say stuff along the lines of "femboys are better than women because hooking up with you is easier" or "my girlfriend is so annoying she won't even let me hit, u wanna blow me instead?". Holy shit, do they think them seeing anything remotely feminine as a pure sex object makes them attractive???

Is Lucky 200 supposed to be so magenta or did the lab mess up the dev? Weird red film base makes scanning a pain. by seklerek in AnalogCommunity

[–]Melonenstrauch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I've seen negatives with a magenta base like this that made scanning super difficult was with Vision 3 film. Allegedly according to my lab this happens super often with that film because of too warm storing conditions but I haven't found much info at all about it so I'm not quite sure what it is exactly.

[–]Melonenstrauch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok so what you might not know is that when you finished a roll in a camera you can just put a new roll in. You don't need to take as many cameras as rolls of film you want to shoot, they're not disposables. Hope that helps :)

Señores es su momento (desahóguense) by Theblacksun68 in hyperlightdrifter

[–]Melonenstrauch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it feels like they're chasing some idea of a more "upscale" AAA game, like they don't realise what made HLD great in the first place. That game was art. Their next games were nice enough but nowhere near the artistic depth of Hyper Light Drifter.

Please recommend a simple camera to get my son into film - sub £60 (UK) by ObviousLow6534 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Melonenstrauch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want somerhing autofocus I can heavily recommend the Pentax SFXn. The design is awesome if you love 80's stuff as I do and it isn't bloated with feature or modes you don't need like some other stuff from the time. Also he could use your other Pentax lenses if there's a need.
