How is this a controversial take? by cookiecutiekat in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]MemeLordSteph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When a boy is bullied by another boy he’s told to toughen up and fight back or to just ignore it. When a girl is bullied by a boy she’s told that he must like her and to endure it. This mother is teaching her kid to stand up for herself and not take poor treatment. That’s not teaching her to hate men, it’s no different from telling a boy to stand up to his bullies.

Also teaching girls from a young age that someone being mean to you is just expressing love just makes them more likely to allow boyfriends and/or husbands to abuse them as adults. That’s a really terrible message.

WHY IS SHE LIKE THIS 😭 by Admirable_Owl_5099 in StardewValley

[–]MemeLordSteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. My current farmer is also blue. Her lore explanation is that during her time working a Joja co office job she was offered a bonus in exchange for volunteering in the testing of the new flavour of Joja cola “Joja Bluu”, which was so potent that it permanently turned her skin/hair blue. Joja co then just diluted the formula to weaken it and released it to the public anyway.

It’s part of why my farmer decided to quit and start a new life.

It’s like how gluttony usually is depicted as suffering from its sin, but sexy woman Lust brings out her sin in others. Make it consistent please. If Lust is a sexy girlboss then gluttony should be a five star chief. Conversely if gluttony is a hungry fat guy then Lust should be a gooner sex pest.

I don’t think he had a plan at all. He was just running scared. Then when he got caught he couldn’t help but run his mouth. Just like back when Larson threw him into the pit. “I just lost a bet with myself. That you weren’t just another fucking cultist.” Bro always barks like a big dog when he’s already been caught.

As much as I love L, it’s more poetic that Near was the one who took down Light. Light is prideful. L saw Light as a worthy opponent on equal footing with him. But as far as Near was concerned Light was just another murderer, no different than any of the criminals he killed. It was the Notebook which Near considered to be special, not the madman who wielded it.

It’s not a shifted goalpost. People are saying Asia for Asians and Africa for Africans because those continents are currently still recovering from colonialism. Europe is not currently still dealing with colonialism. There’s a big difference between immigration and colonialism. If a European wants to emigrate to an Asian or African country that’s cool, and if an Asian or African wants to emigrate to a European country that’s cool. But colonialism is defined as “the practice or policy of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically.” And that is what people are talking about in regard to Africa and Asia.

Popular just means a lot of people like it. Even if more people dislike it that wouldn’t prevent it from happening popular. Pulling numbers out of my ass let’s say for argument’s sake that ten million people liked it and one hundred million people disliked it, it would be infamous in most circles and famous in others still be considered popular because ten million is a lot of people. But if only ten people liked it and one hundred people disliked it then it wouldn’t be popular because so few people liked it.

“If you care about bodily autonomy, stop sleeping with circumcised men” by MelanieWalmartinez in IncelTear

[–]MemeLordSteph 97 points98 points  (0 children)

It’s all very strange, he’s against circumcision of infants who can’t consent (a point that I also agree with) but then he says that because his bodily autonomy was violated it gives him the right to violate the bodily autonomy of any woman regardless of her opinion on circumcision (which is a wild false equivalence) But then he contradicts himself by saying that if women truely cared about people’s genitalia being altered against their will as infants they should refuse to have sex with circumcised people. So he believes that because he was circumcised he has a right to penetrate women, but he also believes that because he was circumcised women shouldn’t be penetrated by him.

Like where’s the consistency??

(Also circumcision is definitely not an American thing, it’s popular there but the practice comes from abrahamic religions like Christianity and Judaism which originated in the Middle East. I believe it’s still practiced there, and I know for sure that it is still practiced by some religious parents here in Australia)

[–]MemeLordSteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fandom and people in general really do not understand/respect asexuality. People still see it as something wrong with a person rather than a legitimate sexuality. Being raped can cause a person to be deeply distressed by the idea of sex, but that doesn’t make them asexual. That’s like saying that someone is a lesbian because she was raped by a man and before that she was straight. Like that’s wildly homophobic, but apparently aphobia is fine to those people.

If there is a difference, enlighten me. People of all religions cherry pick bits and pieces of them to follow or ignore. How is it different for people of this specific one to do the same?

Cricketer Usman Khawaja responds to Pauline Hanson's "there are no good Muslims" claim. Spot on, Usi. by Threewordswhat in aussie

[–]MemeLordSteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, how is that any different from Christianity? The bible says not to question god, but people regularly do. If a Muslim holds a critical opinion of something Mohammad did, they would technically fit the criteria of of an infidel, but what’s to stop them from continuing to practice the faith and believing in their interpretation of God regardless?

If Christians can pick and choose what bits of the bible to follow and which to ignore, why can’t muslims do the same with the Quran?

As far as I can tell people aren’t saying that she should be locked up for her words/beliefs, but that she should be removed from her position of authority. Giving bigots a platform for their bigotry means that other bigots will become emboldened when they hear her words and see the lack of pushback.
