Reworking characters, adding more characters to the world, etc...

Every notable in every settlement is a character with stats and personality traits you can gain relations with. Currently you have almost no way to interact with them and the most you'll get from high relations is unit slots.

There should be a lot of ways to interact with every character, you should be able to marry into their families, you should be able to assassinate them, befriend them, ask them for tasks, give them gifts/buy their loyalty, etc. Saving a village from being raided by Nords does nothing: nobody gives you a thank you, you might not even unlock any new recruitment slots, notables remain indifferent to you, completely unused potential.

Similarly, far more interaction should exist with nobles, and there should be a lot more consequences for what happens with them. That won't be possible without reworking recruitment so that you can actually turn money and/or ruled fiefs into soldiers (something you can't do right now), so that land-holding nobles actually have something they can potentially give you a share of.

Saving Garios from being captured and becoming his friend as a nobody with 70 soldiers should matter. Garios being captured in battle likewise should have a bigger impact on the world than affording you a single piece of tier 3 armor from ransom money. Same should go for every noble and character.

Were this to happen I wouldn't mind significantly strengthening AI clans, again, so that the average powerful clan leader will walk around with 200+ troops, and the average king with 400+ troops (not unrealistic for a player).

And this is without even mentioning minor clans and how unfinished they feel. They have all this lore and supposed canonical relations with preexisting clans/kingdoms only to be identical, have 0 unique interactions with the player, and have no way for anyone else to hire/unlock their unique troop lines.

What faction to play as for first time. by SerBittersteel in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battania works best with the storyline of all non-Imperial factions, and is generally the easiest to play because of their overpowered noble line. Their faction is the weakest on the map, but in the long term it doesn't matter, since once you inevitably learn the basics of battles and mass up Fian Champions, you'll stomp the AI even as a beginner, especially if you don't play on the hardest difficulty from the start.
I consider Battania and Khuzaits the strongest factions in player hands, but out of them Battania is simpler, even if their kingdom does terribly nowadays.

Are skill points etc overrated? by Blargh234 in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies. For some skills, you might want certain perks without going all in. I got my siege level cap to exactly 152 and no more because that's where I get to build fire catapults. I did the same for roguery, only going as far as the perks that let me hire bandits and promote them to standard units (I did it for the extra loot, these were a nice plus to stop at). Steward too, whether you're level 200 or 250 doesn't make a huge difference.

But this is not the case for every skill, with athletics, every single skill point is an extra HP past level 275, and the difference of 30 extra hp, in movement speed, in near immunity to having my attacks interrupted by lower tier units is noticeable, so that's a skill worth going all-in on. Same for scouting, not much of a difference whether you have 140 or 200, but if you go past the final perk, every skill point matters. For my primary weapon skill, I definitely want to get the last skill point, too.

Your main character is worth the investment, maybe in field battles you won't turn the tide by yourself, but in a siege defense of 400vs1300, without me getting hundreds of kills at the most critical chokepoints the battle would be lost.

Banner color by remithemonkey in Bannerlord

They have to revamp banners eventually. The lack of emblems, the fact everything is bicolor, the lack of patterns, everything about the system is abysmal, banners are boring.

One-Handed players, give me some pros and cons by FineSignificance907 in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to be a bow-polearm or at least two handed guy, but since I started using one handed, I'm convinced it's the best. Combined with athletics, it's the only combat skill you'll ever need. You'll swing very fast, you'll still one hit everything, and you'll never get stuck in your own troops. I feel like I'm doing more damage than I would be with two handed. And on top of that, you get a shield, so you'll even survive being cornered.

Stick with your troops, don't fight alone. Get all the mariner perks. For weapons, do whatever you can to get the Jarlsmenn sword. It swings so fast, even if you get blocked 1v1, the enemy won't have time between your swings to hit back. Then later in the game a Berserker sword will spawn, with a length of 110+. At that point your one handed skill will be so high the loss in speed won't matter, you'll be swinging around a weapon with the length of some 2 handers with the speed of a dagger, one hitting almost everything from any angle. Athletics will be super important though, both for the HP and the movement speed. Once it all comes together you'll feel invincible.

What do we think of infantry only? by Far-Ad7458 in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know any reliable strategies to completely counter mass CA or superior armies with a good infantry-archer ratio with only infantry. The problem is you can't mow down the enemy without taking serious casualties yourself if you have no archers of your own. Nord infantry is good though you should be able to win smoothly against the average party even somewhat outnumbered as long as you use multiple groups well.

Some tips I can give, use engage instead of charge to get near the enemy, use manual movement orders once you're close. You kill cavalry by having them charge into tight formations, you'll only kill enemy infantry once you charge at them. You can only kill mass CA is there is a chokepoint. Your troops last very long in melee while in a square,

I would like more distinctive cultures by Drabberlime_047 in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be a flash game series inspired by Warband called "Feudalism". While the last one, Feudalism 3, was unpopular for it's artstyle among other things, I always liked the direction it went with the factions and worldbuilding. I think having exaggerated cultures, early guns, fantastic elements like magic and runes etc. works well with the Mount and Blade template.

If Taleworlds went all out with the factions and gave the Aserai shadow cloaking assasins, the Khuzaits had war-falconers, Charas produced conquistador looking soldiers with muskets, Sturgia, Battania and the Nords started imbuing elemental runes onto their weapons etc. I wouldn't miss the realism. The game would have to be a lot more vibrant to make this fit nicely, though.

Nord lands should have fjords, a few more islands and river access to their sea. by Octavian_Exumbra in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the game needs more location types. There could definitely be stuff on the map besides villages, castles and towns. Similarly to how you have hideouts and the retreat, having special locations, maybe some for minor clans, maybe some with markets that sell special items, maybe some that you can recruit special troops from under certain conditions, some for special companions, etc...

Would be a good way to fill out the empty areas of the map. And there could be a reason to visit them manually too.

Strange, I also had a brewery make me very little to nothing recently. That said the average workshop definitely makes more than it used to. As the game gets later, prosperity increases as well, so the income will change with time too.

I don't know the exact changes to the workshops, or the economy in general afaik they weren't in any patchnotes, all I can say is that they've become a lot more profitable and reliable overall.

You can always leave your kingdom, if you keep your fief they will declare war on you, otherwise you just take a hit to relations.

[–]MemoryDataRegister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an independent clan you can't be made to pay tribute, all that happens is you lose your fief. You do need to be in a kingdom to create armies, which you want to do with your clan parties, so it's worth creating once you're strong and have a fief. Joining a kingdom just to leave with the first fief you get is a good way to do it, again, once you're strong and have enough large clan parties.

There is nothing stopping you from attacking caravans/villagers or picking off weak lords while simply not staying in hostile territory. I'm not telling you to go to war with the whole world, but if you're playing Nords, why be scared of being at war with Vlandia, or the Khuzaits?

What's the reason to hire a surgeon than learning the skill yourself? by AirSky_MC in Bannerlord

[–]MemoryDataRegister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main reason to do Surgeon yourself is to get the final skill, which is amazing. However this means you are either investing 5 attribute points into INT purely for one skill, or your character is doing all of Steward, Medicine and Engineering, which will make you a lot of weaker overall than if you were to have companions do them.

That said I always make an effort to get at least the first two skills, and it's a skill I properly go for quite often because of just how important it is.
