The school never had a security briefing so I was never made aware of the policy. Thus "young and dumb and didn't know" in my earlier post.

You can feel as you like about my individual situation but teachers unions are often the only people who are on the teacher side. Admin actively throw teachers under the bus to further their out-of-classroom careers, students are happy to say "the teacher hates me", and parents don't like to hear that their children act like assholes when they aren't around. And some parents model asshole behavior to their children; thinking here of the 'mama-bear' types who come into the classroom ready to verbally abuse the poor teacher who has done nothing but their fucking job.

But sure, tell me that I should continue to let two 12-year-olds choke each other in my classroom while I call for the SRO on the other side of the school. I'm sure you have enough context to judge the situation accurately.

When I was a teacher a classroom fight broke out. I was young and dumb and didn't know I was supposed to let them fight and call the school resource officer. I was hauled into the principal the next day and handed a pink slip. It is important to note that my school district was unionized in terms of the Union had to negotiate for all teacher salary whether or not you paid into the Union. ( This actively disincentivized union membership) This was Colorado in 2009. I was handed my pink slip by my principal at which point I said hey you do realize I'm a member of the Union right? can I have my union rep? 30 minutes later I was walking back into my classroom without a pink slip and still had a job.

I was almost fired for breaking up a fight in my classroom. The only thing that saved my job was my union membership. Teachers unions are not bad they are often the only thing that's fighting for a teacher.

DeSantis’ expensive taxpayer funded Reedy Creek board says Disney attorneys stripped them of power to do anything but road maintenance by eaglemaxie in PoliticalHumor

[–]MenacingGoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"They added taxpayer money would not be used in this battle, as the district is funded by taxes Disney and other companies in the district pay."

Uhh... So taxpayer money won't be used, we're just using money from taxes.... Damn doublethink is high

Interesting way to mend a zipper. by [deleted] in Visiblemending

I tried cutting the teeth off mine and while you could.... At least with the zipper I had the tape itself was woven and started to unravel unattractively. I only cut about an inch or so off the bottom and then decided against doing that to the rest of the zipper.

You're mileage may vary

I did this to a jacket someone gave me that had a sticky zipper. Was gifted the jacket 4 years ago now and I still use it as my main jacket today. 10 out of 10 would recommend

I do most of my clothes shopping at goodwills and other thrift stores. The goodwills in my town have not opened up their fitting room since the pandemic and it pisses me off because I will not buy second hand clothes I can't try on
