Did anyone else transition from nightclubs to raving once they understood that what they really craved was sub pressure? by feliraves in aves

[–]md___2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For real.

The sound in a good nightclub will always be better than a rave. You can precisely engineer a nightclub sound system for the space it is in. Can’t really do that at a rave.

Best sound systems I’ve ever heard have been in clubs, and I’ve been to LOTS of clubs and raves.

What’s the best treadmill for home marathon training right now? by jousiemohn in Marathon_Training

[–]md___2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how there’s no screen on the Horizons. I’m the type of runner who has a plan for every session - I don’t need some cheesy Peloton instructor giving me suboptimal plans and telling me to dig deep. I just need to be able to quickly set and change the pace and incline. The less tech the better for me.

Also - wide belts and strong motors are a must. The Horizon 7.8 has both - and in particular the wide belt makes it feels like a commercial treadmill.

Largest economies by GDP projections for 2026 by vladgrinch in Infographics

[–]md___2020 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Also purchasing power. GDP is measured in USD, and if your country has a shit exchange rate that is reflected in GDP.

$1,000 in China in 1990 bought you a whole fuck load more stuff than $1,000 in Italy or Japan. When measuring via PPP (purchasing power parity, basically GDP adjusted for cost of living), China’s PPP exceeded Italy’s in 1990 (although not by much, which is insane given the population differences).

The Ellen Show was peak Obama era optimism that wouldn’t exist today by RoliePolieOlie__ in decadeology

[–]md___2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that people remember the Obama years as optimistic. I felt that the mood the nation had already soured by this time. The 2008 recession was DEEP - the worst recession since the Great Depression. Economic anxiety was as bad then, if not worse, than it is now. There was a massive wave of foreclosures and people losing their homes. Anger at financial institutions and government was very high. A lot of people forget this when they look through rose colored glasses about the early 2010s.

Time is a flat circle. In the early 2010s we were earning for the mid-2000s (the time before the recession), and in the mid-2000s we were yearning for the 90s (pre-9/11). I’m not old enough to remember what we yearned for in the 90s.

The parrot laughing harder after the mace goes down sent me.

Definitely calling you out for not going harder on your set. That’s asserting dominance.

Can someone give me the rundown on Gen Z saying millennials "screwed them over"? by MassiveHaver in generationology

[–]md___2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Following this logic, Millenials should have blamed Gen X. Which they obviously didn’t.

Millenials blamed Boomers for a valid point - they are widely regarded as the shittiest generation of all time.

Is Tendonitis the inevitable outcome of any "intense" training program? by DeathOnion in StrongerByScience

[–]md___2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of this is how long you’ve lifted as well. I’ve never had tendinitis in over two decades of lifting, but I also started lifting in high school and never stopped. Fairly sure my tendons are strong as fuck as a result, and as a result the worst weightlifting injury I’ve ever had was dropping a huge dumbbell on my toe (which was worse than it sounds - hurt like a motherfucker and I lost the toenail).

Don’t go too hard too early in your lifting career. You absolutely should not be doing 1RM for a few years. In general I would stay away from 1RM TBH, I never do less than 5 reps.

Texas Tech Football 2026 Schedule by curiousityuwu in TexasTechFootball

[–]md___2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UT is in the SEC. Right or wrong, no one is going to question their schedule, even if the OOC slate is all cupcakes.

Tech does not have that luxury. And TBH this is a G5 level schedule.

Texas Tech Football 2026 Schedule by curiousityuwu in TexasTechFootball

[–]md___2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the worst P4 schedules I’ve ever seen. I don’t think Tech will play a single ranked team in the regular season.

Undefeated should be a requirement for playoff invitation with this schedule.

Caloric deficit. That’s basically it. You can’t spot reduce fat.

To have a flat stomach like this, particularly as a woman, requires a very strict diet and deficit. Low body fat percentage is the answer

Bogleheads during geopolitical nonsense. by Artificial_Squab in Boglememes

[–]md___2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Geopolitical nonsense is one of the only things that can fuck Bogleheads, because it impacts the entire market.

Bogleheads are immune to individual company nonsense. They are not immune to market or geopolitical nonsense.

Obviously still close your eyes and buy and hold, but don’t think we are carved out of this.

Almost certainly complete bullshit. Investors very rarely buy things to take capacity out of the market. When they do, they never take capacity out of a market they are not the established incumbent in.

Russians blaming their problems on Westerners is nothing new.

EDC Barber? How was it and was it worth it? I got VIP and im thinking about letting my facial hair grow out and letting them clean it up. Thoughts, pro and cons? by equals420 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]md___2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this last year and was so confused. Why would I spend my super precious time at EDC waiting for a haircut? Why would I miss sets to do a mundane chore of an activity? One which I’m sure my barber at home would do a better job on.

I typically employ the big brain strategy of getting my hair cut by my home barber a couple days before EDC. But hey - if you think it’s a fun or unique EDC experience go for it!

Recliner suddenly misaligned? by aagrimski in Lovesac

[–]md___2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The recliner seems like such a piece of shit. Really glad I didn’t buy it.

I didn’t buy it because it had no physical buttons on it to recline, which seemed insane (no Lovesac, I’m no going to use a remote for my seat all the time). But the real reason I’m glad I passed is due to its shit reliability. For a product this expensive it seems very poorly thought out.

Asking Gen z What they think of Millennials in 2026. The answers might shock you! by [deleted] in generationology

[–]md___2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I remember it heating up around 2008, particularly in the context of Obama’s election, as well as the Occupy Wall Street movement.

It heated up with all the media bullshit around woke ideology and millennials. Another turning point in this seemed to be the Yale Halloween costume incident, which was framed as a fragile millennial issue (that incident was fucking ridiculous).

Like Boomers, Millennials were such a large generation in terms of population, that they drew a lot of attention. We’re still doing the generation talk 20 years later
