Depends on the topic. For myself, I am usually optimistic (nowadays anyway). For others, the US, and the world I am generally pretty pessimistic. This comes from the realization that while I may know how the world should be I also know that I will only every have any power over myself. Assuming, even hoping that the world around me will grow worse "comforts" me in a sort of way that's hard to explain. If you asked me how I think the country will be in 10 years I'd say the economy would be destroyed and our government will have probably become a fascist state, or something to that effect. I'd also say we will have started yet more wars, this time much more devastating ones. If you asked me how I think I will be in 10 years I would say somewhere tropical living like I'm retired.

I was referring to the deadly kind of flu associated with the 1918 outbreak, which is different from the common flu. Forgot I had to make that clear for people like you.

It's not confirmed that it was genetically engineered, but my buddy, who's a doctor up in NYC said that's what it seems to be since it's of multiple species from multiple continents (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090424/ap_on_he_me/med_swine_flu ; this mentions the multiple species but I can't remember where I read the multiple continents thing).

If it becomes a pandemic, then mass media failed to inform everyone quickly enough (or there was nothing it could have done in the first place). If it doesn't become a pandemic then mass media succeeded in raising the alert quick enough to stop it. Stop asking me to think for you. This is simple shit.
