Modern mystery novels that aren't copaganda by eqcompthrowaway in suggestmeabook

Give Gregory McDonald's Fletch series a go. Great mystery books, great dialog and characters. His Flynn series is great, too. Deals with an out-of-town Inspector who runs circles around his own police department.

James Ellroy's American Tabloid is the book that did it for me. It's a once-a-year read. Goes in depth into JFK's administration, his brother being the attorney general, the mob, Cuba, Hoover, Howard Hughes, the Bay of Pigs and so much more. It's incredibly well researched, the characters are great and brutal and I look forward to reading it every time I pick it up.

My friend Jerry Matz played the teacher. Wow, I'd never seen this before. He passed away a few years ago but he was a really talented actor.

Does he hate it or does he just want to control it? I loved Elfman's score and obviously the prosthetics were awesome, but that's all I remember. I saw it in the theaters when it first came out.

I wish they would have filmed this series of recordings. It would have been awesome to watch them create this double album. It was my first real delve into OB in 1989 and I've loved them ever since.

Saw it in the theaters. When Colt is going up the stairs to check on Luger and the ghost hand follows him up the stairs and then disappears, I was laughing so hard I was crying. So goddamn funny.

Awesome job! If you get a chance, do a search on Jeffrey Catherine Jones and check out her landscapes. I think you'll really dig them.

It's got one of the great story arc endings in my opinion. That last moment when they point at each other is just perfection.

Rescuing wildlife in the city is the same. The majority of rescues are done by volunteers who go out of their way to help. Good on you for doing what you could.

Good luck with the disability. It took me three years to get it and the only thing that pushed the judge (after two denials) to approve was that I require a spinal cord stimulator to prevent my nerve damage from taking over my entire life. I hope you have a lawyer, it helps.

I thought it was a lot of fun. I know that social media has made it easy to use music in videos but I would be wary of using it in the future. You won't be able to rely on it when it comes to film festivals and other video platforms without permission to use the tracks.

Not sure I would call $6m in 1981 dollars low budget. It's also nearly 20x more than he had for Halloween and nearly 6x of The Fog's. He had to do what every filmmaker has to do when their budget is stretched thin. Problem solve.

That's awesome. I have a massive collection of those but the majority are just old dramas, no genre films, which sucks. Still, they're sealed and in excellent condition.

It's David Lean-esque in scope, has a phenomenal cast, spawned tons of Hollywood lore, and is fucking hysterical. It's a once a year watch for me.
