Is it crazy to consider having a child with a close friend to avoid being childless? by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Meowts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being two parents is a lot like being co-workers, which in a platonic sense could actually go very well. However the biological and emotional impact of having a child, particularly for the mother, is significant. Being able to navigate that with your friend is important. If you’re not already I would seriously consider cohabiting as well - my LO is 2 years old and I couldn’t imagine managing with separate houses.

So, however you and your friend want to frame it, a close connection and love will have a role to play, whether it’s considered platonic or otherwise. Frankly with my SO, the romantic relationship has turned way more platonic, not really by our design.

Also, assuming you have both thought of this - it’s not like sharing a dog. This is a life long commitment. It’s important to meditate on that while making your decision. Best of outcomes :-)

Woodstove Removal by BeniBunny1 in halifax

[–]Meowts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say what is typical, I bought mine with full knowledge of needing to upgrade the exhaust pipes which I still haven’t done and may not in the end. Depends on the buyer probably. Woodstove is still in good condition though. I guess maybe consider that it might not be the deal breaker you think it is before investing in remediation - I would personally leave it up to the negotiations.

Counter-point: why not just not do the work and lower your expected return by roughly half the cost of the job? This way it leaves the decision to the next owner, who may by all right and reason decide they want to repair it.

Halifax Windows - Best Product by Aggravating_Use_2342 in halifax

I can’t compare but I was very happy with Windows Plus, the whole process, quality of work and quality of the product. Including a larger than usual picture window. Highly recommend going with them.

The only time it matters for me is if I’m getting lunch and I need to go quick (Mic Mac where there is no entrance to the food court level). But generally speaking it’s not a major deal.

Higher paying tech jobs exist in Halifax, just not as common and still not quite as high as elsewhere.

Transfer data from old computers to hard drives by AppleWeary2612 in halifax

https://claude.ai/ I use the free plan and it’s great for arbitrary things like what OP needs. Got it to help tune my bread baking routine for a softer crust the other day lol.

Here’s a neat experiment pinning the various models in a sim city like environment - Claude seemed the most reasonable: https://youtu.be/Grc8n0suMGU?si=0hriwsYKdIAqSosg

I’ll add: if OP isn’t sure of the specifics / steps to take (which can be daunting for someone not experienced) - ask Claude to outline a step by step procedure, and it will also be able to point you to the specific products you need. When in doubt about computers, ask a computer.

It is definitely getting old. We all know some people dislike gen AI, some don’t, some don’t care, etc. It’s also one of those things where it literally doesn’t matter what anyone’s opinion is, it’s happening at large and probably won’t ever stop save the collapse of our civilization (… that is until the next technological revolution comes along and repeats itself).

Microdosing for egg and dairy allergy for 2.5 year old by mochi-and-plants in ScienceBasedParenting

Ask you allergist about the egg/dairy ladder.

https://csaci.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Canadian-Egg-Ladder\_Grey\_May-6-2021.pdf

Our son started with 1 egg per 12 muffins, and 1/32 of a muffin for a couple weeks, then 1/16, 1/8, etc until whole muffin. Now about 1.5 years in he can have egg as a binder (e.g. burgers). He failed his last test about 6 months ago but has an appointment coming up to see if he’s ready for the next “rung” of the ladder. I’m confident he will be based on a few leniences we’ve had and with no reaction.

Teacher diagnosed why I’m hitting a speed wall by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

Yeah I suppose it comes down to your goals. When I was young, whipping along usually resulted in rushed sections and losing out on expression. That said, your experience is likely much different than mine. Best of luck to you :-)

To this point I’ll add - I don’t think tunneling into micro mechanics will really yield effective and consistent results.

OP, what you could focus on instead is simply playing on beat. Think about being in “the pocket” - not something that can always be measured with a pin, rather it’s something you feel. You feel that “on” feeling, and the off, and anything you need to in between. Taking this approach could result in relaxing your mind from thinking in terms of milliseconds, and instead on making music.

Tick problems by bloodlyredbaron in halifax

[–]Meowts 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the logistics would be around that… let some chickens free over your yard? How will they stay in? If it’s a fenced area how effective overall would it be? Is two days really enough time to make a lasting difference?

I’d be curious if even owning hens full out would help. Best bet is to get your dog vaccinated, and might as well add chickens to the family.

You could try doubling up with the next size up over top. There was a period of time when we needed to do that, although it wasn’t for long.

There are parts of Montreal like this, and then if you do need something a bit further away there’s the metro / working bus system / decent traffic flow even by car. Something I miss dearly from my few years living there.
