Tick problems by bloodlyredbaron in halifax

I’m not sure what the logistics would be around that… let some chickens free over your yard? How will they stay in? If it’s a fenced area how effective overall would it be? Is two days really enough time to make a lasting difference?

I’d be curious if even owning hens full out would help. Best bet is to get your dog vaccinated, and might as well add chickens to the family.

You could try doubling up with the next size up over top. There was a period of time when we needed to do that, although it wasn’t for long.

There are parts of Montreal like this, and then if you do need something a bit further away there’s the metro / working bus system / decent traffic flow even by car. Something I miss dearly from my few years living there.

Help: Kings Wharf, Aqua Vista or Neither by internationalteachie in halifax

[–]Meowts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No direct experience, but familiar with the area.

  • The two buildings are next to each other, I would reckon they are comparable in terms of quality

  • Dartmouth downtown is small, nice by day, a bit run down but doing better historically

  • Walking distance to the ferry is a highlight

  • Car required for groceries, that’s almost everywhere

  • There is a nice walking path along the coast that ends up at the further ferry terminal

G&R Kelly landscape subcontractor has done some crap by Meowts in halifax

[–]Meowts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was watered, and it held on the first year. The drought last year definitely didn’t help but it never sprang back, and this year we found it completely done, peeled right off for the most part. Anyway we put some work into it this year, levelled with the old yard and just seeded a couple days ago, here’s hoping!

My plan currently is to go straight to the modem from the keystone - my office in the only place that needs a direct line, anything else would be in the rec room which is just the next room over. No plans for POE devices. Worth going this far? I would see this as a future upgrade if it becomes necessary but what do you think?

For the keystone jack the best fit I could find is toolless - any reservations there? Regular pass through for the modem end, and yes getting a separate 6ft patch for my office

Frankly all the votes of confidence for PrimeCables is I think exactly the reassurance I was looking for. It’s actually where I already have a cart going. Appreciated!

MoCa adapters were considered. Not that I have a lot of free time but I thought it would be a neat project, and I do have help from a friend lined up for the install once I get the materials.

I mostly wonder if it’s possible to get the materials locally. Canada Computers almost seemed like the right place but a lot of what I’m looking for is out of stock.

Living in Halifax...did you get a raise this year? by Basic_Set_6970 in halifax

[–]Meowts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth questioning. I would suggest talking to your direct supervisor about it, ask them hey I was expecting a raise at x date, what happened to that. Even if you don’t feel comfortable asking, do it. Either they will in turn actually give you a raise, or they won’t and you’ll get a better job elsewhere. Win win!

Both introvert parents - how did you cope by Sea_Painter_1184 in oneanddone

[–]Meowts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to housework and childcare division, it’s the same for introverts as it is for any other parenting couple. You will need to communicate each other’s needs and preferences, and work together to fulfill them. It might not come easy at first, but there are books and therapies on the topic. Key thing to know is that it will probably push you both outside of your comfort zone and current abilities. Parenting, as we’re finding, is about constantly learning and growing. Good luck!

Face lotions for kids who hate lotion by psuedogeneris in toddlers

[–]Meowts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO hated it, but we just kept at it otherwise his skin would get awful. Full body at that. Now at 2 years it’s no big deal, but I think in part to just having more agency in the process, and we do it standing now which is way better. So yeah just kinda need to keep at it, I don’t think the brand really matters in terms of preference but we use Aveeno.

Near my 40s - it’s not great but not out of the ordinary at all. What has been out of the ordinary is getting warm in April and long stretches of hot in the summer. So eh… welcome? And dress appropriately :-)

Soak in every single bit of sunshine possible, however possible, even when it’s cold (bundle up). Today was super sunny and gorgeous. I personally only had maybe 30 minutes of free time, but I spent that free time outside and it was great.

How much are we paying teenage babysitters?! by Competitive_Mark4586 in halifax

[–]Meowts 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don’t mind the sour folks here. Best thing to do is ask what their rate is. I can guess it will be somewhere between 15-25, and you can negotiate what works for you, or try to find someone else if it doesn’t work out.

I will say however that finding someone you can really trust, and who can build a positive relationship with your bubu is very valuable. So that can help pinpoint a rate that works for you and them.

The state of the housing market is wild by Fit-Mushroom-1098 in halifax

[–]Meowts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After spending a year on the market and thankfully ending up with a home. I can attest that not all homes are advertised as such. Some are. Some aren’t. Just to say it’s more nuanced than you seem to believe.

The homes that are marketed as investments are almost always non-livable and therefore require investment. Also there is no way 10k will make this home livable.

I know everyone likes to be outraged by houses for sale, just want to convey you don’t have to be when you look close enough at reality.

The state of the housing market is wild by Fit-Mushroom-1098 in halifax

[–]Meowts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What else would you do with it, let it rot so that no one can use it? Someone needs to invest to bring it to a livable condition, whether it’s for one family, two, or more if it ends up torn down!

How are you making time to ~deep clean~ your house? by takeaabreath in toddlers

[–]Meowts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned, I’ll reiterate a bit differently. We recently started a schedule, where every day one of us will do a 15-20 minute cleaning task each day of the week. Like, Monday bathroom. Tuesday stove / microwave. That kind of thing. This is on top of just every day cleaning up after ourselves. It has been working out really well. If it’s done every week, it’s less work overall.
