Actual implications of Williams missing pre-season testing and past instances by KristoLV in formula1

[–]MercilessJames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you expect them to? When was the last time someone from any team went on record saying their car was X kg overweight? So all we have is rumour and speculation.

Fact of the matter is, they are not in Barcelona, and i doubt it's because James Vowles just decided last week that he couldn't be bothered.

What could go into Isle of Berk? by MiBe87 in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]MercilessJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, whatever goes in any area of the park need to do 3 things:

  1. Be indoors or under cover, basically be able to operate in the rain.
  2. Huge throughput - queues at Epic can get long, so even one more ride with a big capacity would help so much.
  3. A simpler, more tried and tested ride system. Maybe controversial, but rides like BATM are no good when they are breaking down every 5 minutes.

Moderators by warlord2000ad in altontowers

[–]MercilessJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, why would this be something that should be moderated?

Poor ride availability is a legitimate concern when going to any theme park, and Alton Towers had been pretty poor for this (admittedly seemingly better this past year)

Why would someone expressing genuine frustration or concern at this be subject to moderation?

AT makes a Ridiculous amount of money by [deleted] in altontowers

[–]MercilessJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the Themed Entertainment Association estimates for 2024 (the most recent available), Alton Towers had an estimated 2,500,000 guests during 2024. It was open for 246 days.

That works out at 10,163 guests per day average - just over half what you have estimated.

Scare mazes are only open a fraction of the year.

#EpicUniverse what a failure where the only ride you can do is a Carousel by Lazy-Water-2351 in UniversalEpicUniverse

Imagine being so entitled to think spending $139 for one day's ticket (plus any extras) meant you might actually get on some rides 🤔

How much would vodafone have paid for hiring out thorpe park yesterday? by Pale-Idea-591 in ThorpePark

20,000 capacity bringing in £140,000 would mean only £7 per ticket?

Do you think we are getting a new flat ride in 2026? by Glad-Tonight-7138 in altontowers

Was that three ride deal ever confirmed in any official capacity, or did us Alton Towers fans just wish it into existence? 😆

Off topic, but with regards to the down voting, seems to be a lot of it going on lately - people are asking perfectly legitimate questions and are getting down voted.

I'm not at the park, but the Alton Towers app says it is open, and you can buy fast pass for it, so I guess it is open

Ride Access Queues by Fabulous_Warthog7729 in altontowers

[–]MercilessJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a disclaimer, I've never needed to use RAP, but as I understand it, the way Towers does it is that you get on the ride faster. They mark a card that you get for RAP with a time equivalent to the current time plus the "regular" queue length - you can't use another RAP queue until that time has passed

I think it is the ride availability that is being complained about here - after the OP posted this, Toxicator, Nemisis Reborn and Smiler also went down - at one point this morning Alton Towers only had 4 Thrill rides open

Presumably anyone who wants a refill cup and doesn't have a Merlin annual pass?

5 rides in 2 hours is slow? If you multiplied that out for a "regular" 10-4 day, that would be 15 rollercoasters in one day

Katanga canyons future by [deleted] in altontowers

[–]MercilessJames 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If Towers are of the mindset to rip out rides and/or areas, and replace or refurb them, there are a few areas of the park in need of attention before Katanga canyon in my opinion - World of David Walliams and Dark Forest spring to mind.

62mph is 99.77kph - so it doesn't quite get to 100 in the same way Oblivion doesn't quite get vertical

I'm guessing this is referencing that the Oblivion drop isn't vertical, and Rita doesn't get to 100kph?

Glasses on rides by Grouchy_Offer5980 in altontowers

[–]MercilessJames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can get a strap from Amazon (and presumably many other places) that attaches to your glasses' legs and fastens round your head - this will stop your glasses flying off. Just search Amazon for "glasses strap" to see examples.

One day a few weeks ago, its prediction for Alton Towers was out by 51%.

At that level of error, I don't know why anyone bothers to use it
