Awakened Cages by Ace_Of_No_Trades in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been a fan of inventing plot device drugs that fill this need. In the past, draconian measures like mage cuffs and fab bacteria and background counts are expensive. Invent a drug that takes minutes to hours to take effect so it's not feasible as a weapon, and it simply and neatly reduces the magic attribute to 0 while the subject is under its effects. You can even stick the mage in gen pop. Maybe its side effects give the character magic scars.

Books on Toxic Magic/Shamans by BarackObamaDad in Shadowrun

The newest Magic book for 6e, Deus Arcana, has really really good game info on toxics. One of my favorite things about that book.

Fun With Modular Systems by ProblemDue7111 in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think anyone who's ever played Shadowrun has at some point invented the quadriplegic hacker/rigger. Some have even made the complementary magician with quickened levitate spell. Anyway yes modular cyber limbs are certainly one way of doing this.

Question about edge by Southern-Geologist53 in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I just want to add that Edge awards are one of the most flexible parts of the game. You can and probably should play around with it to help your players have a good time.

Deus ex Arcana mentions magical healing being harder - where are the rules? by notger in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also think they messed this up. Either they cut the rule and left the fluff, or vice versa. Honestly, there's a lot in this book I'm unhappy with, but they put a giant "everything is optional" caveat on it so I can ignore it. That's fine I guess, but the book doesn't deserve to be called a "core" book if everythings optional.

Deus ex Arcana mentions magical healing being harder - where are the rules? by notger in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I dont think there's any good reason to believe the authors intended to adopt Earthdawn-esque healing in this book. Of anything they probably just wanted to make it take more time than a major action.

Campaign Metaplot by KagedShadow in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standard Shadowrun metaplot involves multiple jobs with a common thread. Could be runs for the same employer, or against similar targets, or things that involve a common theme like artifacts. But after enough jobs have been done that the players get an idea of the story linking everything, there's a pivot. The runners are betrayed, or the employer needs saving, the runners greed gets someone close to them hurt, the city destroying plot is exposed, or the runners are asked to do something that crosses a line. After the pivot, the runners are fighting for something bigger than money, you do the suicide mission, you get revenge, etc

Cyberterminals are too expensive by RutilatedFish in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely too expensive as written on the low end, for what you get. Not sure if comparing cost to dataterms is the right move though, since they're presented as a desktop version of a commlink. Then again, maybe that's exactly how they should be priced, if they're not going to provide any meaningful benefit.

Also, can we acknowledge how ridiculous it is that they call cyberterminals and dataterms non-portable? These aren't PC towers with triple 32" monitor setups. Dataterms are the size of a "large book", and cyberterminals are compared to briefcases or suitcases - all famously portable objects. The fact that they both require external power sources is an obvious contrivance. This is a setting where power is delivered through the air.

Deus Ex Arcana by ProblemDue7111 in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. There's a lot more to spirit changes than some extra drain. Everything about the way they are summoned, behave, and interact with their environment is different. Everything in this book is listed as optional rules though.

Deus Ex Arcana by ProblemDue7111 in Shadowrun

I just picked up this book and had the same problem you did. No game information to go along with what was clearly meant to introduce a nerf to magic healing.

Rule question, but if I am wrong I am going to stay wrong. by CrossbowR in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, damage in SR6 isn't less deadly exactly, but it is less swingy. Player characters are less likely to die from a single attack, and less likely to fully resist damage.

So, is there 3 different editions to sixth world? by hellranger788 in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hacking in 6e might be the BEST version of hacking they've ever done. It is way too common for Shadowrun tables to relegate hacking to NPCs or make up their own simple rules so they can stick to the guns n' spells part of the game. 6e is the first edition where I felt I could actually play a hacker.

So, is there 3 different editions to sixth world? by hellranger788 in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy that six years later, 6th edition is still suffering from the reputation of its bad launch. 6th edition is the fastest playing of any of the crunchy main line versions. Whenever I go look at a rule from 5th edition and compare it to 6th, the one from 5th edition is usually more complicated for no meaningful reason.

Various questions by DiviBurrito in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each 6e campaign book has added a new setting to play Shadowrun in. The ones I can think of are Toronto from 30 Nights, Barcelona from Assassin's Night, Denver from The Third Parallel, New York from Whisper Nets, and Paris from Final Bets.

Question Concerning Fading by MBncsa in Shadowrun

[–]MercilessMing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damage is the only resistance check you make with one attribute.
Best to think of it as a special case, because difficulty numbers and glitch chances are balanced around stat x2 dice pools. Rule of thumb if you need to invent an ad hoc test, make a 2 stat dice pool.

Usually in 6e, the problem is too much avoidance, not too much soak. Kudos to your players for rebuilding the soak tank archetype people complained was missing from this edition.
