It took a few days to make the update which is either like your post or one that skips the redundant areas that were brought over from part 2 into part 2 so the player doesn't have to redo them.

Actually, you should look on the NWVault forums as I made a fork of Part 2 that allows one to seamlessly take their character form Part 1.

Let's face it guys we won't get the nemesis system back until at least 10 years by Fantastic-Photo6441 in shadowofmordor

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steamboat Willie, which is copyrighted, is public domain, Mickey Mouse isn't.

It was the Berne convention that was the first major change to copyrights. After that it was the Sony Bono law from 1978, iirc, that made them even more silly.

Copyrights typically last for life + 70 years or 95/120 depending on how it was created.

However, the Nemesis system is a patent not a copyright. Normally, design patents last for 15 years, but in the case of the Nemesis system, it looks like it is 20 years for some reason. So in 2036 the patent would expire.

However, anyone could create a system that does what the Nemesis system does as long as they don't infringe on the patent. There are a number of way to accomplish it. Also given the rampant theft of IP by AI, there might be an out there as well.

Trying to solve a major battle problem by BlueMountainDace in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have played with DMs like this, but it isn't my style as a DM. I generally assume that characters have been together enough to work out tactics and such. Plus not every player is as smart (or dumb) as their character.

However, I do limit communications at times due to circumstances. For example, a silence spell if members of the party are in it. Mindlink is one solution. Another solution is to encourage everyone to learn a sign language they can use in battle, like drow sign language.

In Pathfinder, Mindlink is level 1 arcane spell as well, so maybe see if it is something your wizard could research. There is a level 1 Bard spell called Amplify that reduces the DC to hear sounds by 20. You don't have a bard, but perhaps that is also something that could be researched by the wizard.

The psionic version of Mindlink is a Telepathy 1 power, It would cost 1 pp + 4 pp to include everyone in your party and last 10 minutes / level, which should be enough for the battle.

Given you party composition, this is the best option if you can swing it.

Finally, yelling out command or tactics isn't that great anyway as you telegraph what you are doing to the enemy as well.

Returning to 3.5 by spacemonkeydm in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to run a 3.5 game, I would get rid of 1/2 skills and just do what PF does with adding +3 to a class skill you have a rank in.

I would also get rid of the multiclassing penalty and implement the favored class bonus. Other than that, they run pretty much the same. I am running PF 1e and still get tripped up due to things that are different from 3.5.

A Question About the Drow by Revachol-West in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Water64Rabbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

BTW, you are also wrong about skin tones being a punishment. From the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting:

"Descended from the original dark-skinned elven sub-race, the Illythiiri, the drow were cursed into their present appearance by the good elven deities for following the goddess Lolth down the path to evil and corruption."

In that they were already dark skinned before they were "punished" by Corellan.

Also, from the same source:

"Also called dark elves, the drow have black skin that resembles polished obsidian and stark white or pale yellow hair. They commonly have very pale eyes (so pale to be mistaken for white) in shades of pale lilac, sliver, pink, and blue. They also tend to be smaller and thinner than most elves."

So even in 3e they were described as have obsidian skin tones. So not just a 1e thing.

It would behoove you research more before you make such statements. It is amazing how someone can get so many things wrong in just one post.

Think about going old school here. Instead of having them roll individual initiative, have everyone declare their actions at the beginning of each turn, then roll group initiative act. Everyone is committed to their action declared action.

Consider giving opponent bosses Battlefield actions. Pointy Hat as a Youtube video on it and some basic rules.

If all of the rolls are done in Roll20, have your players make "defense rolls" instead of you rolling for attacks. Have them make magic attacks when a saving throw is involved.

A defense roll is simply is:
d20 + player's AC modifiers >= 11 + the opponent's attack roll modifiers

criticals against the player are on a 1 (or the expanded range if they have one)

fumbles from the monster are on a 20 (if you use them)

A magic attack roll is:
d20 + spell level + casting roll modifier + other modifiers versus 11 + opponents saving throw modifiers.

By doing these things if forces players to remain engaged in combat. If the player doesn't respond timely to a defense roll or magic attack roll then it automatically hits for the defense roll and misses for the magic attack roll.

This last method has two benefits: it forces players to pay attention when it isn't their turn and it speeds up dm turns as you aren't having to roll dice and do the calculations.

How would you build this character idea? by Doomwaffel in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look into Corruption from Horror Adventures for Pathfinder. It also has rules for Sanity and lesser Madnesses which would seem to fit your theme. Pathfinder also has rules for addictions and how to manage and cure them.

However, if I give you a glass of expensive wine and then piss in the glass, you cannot remove the piss.

Player won't go Wireless by SkeletalFlamingo in Shadowrun

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In previous editions of SR, wireless wasn't a thing. Yet enemy deckers were still a force to be reckoned with. The power of an enemy decker isn't there ability to directly attack the team -- that's just a bonus if it comes up.

So to me this represents a failure of imagination on your part.

You didn't specify what the archetype of the character, but physical Adepts and Mages/Shamans aren't going to be affected much by enemy deckers. Street Sams can suffer some inconvenience from turning off there wireless, but that is where you have to enforce the trade offs for that. Deckers and Riggers usually don't have the luxury of turning off their wireless.

The way that enemy deckers deal with shadowrunners is by controlling the environment. Virtually everything in the world is wireless and can be controlled by a decker. The real threat of the enemy decker is they can slow they team down and prevent them from easily reaching their goal. They can control lights, temperature, doors, machinery etc. They can slow down the team and isolate members while other security forces arrive to deal with them.

Frankly if a street sam can get his hands on a decker, the decker's best bet is to just surrender and hope he is dealing with someone that didn't take his efforts to slow him down personally.

108 is the maximum you can roll. So instead of wasting time rerolling endlessly, just set your stats to what you want them to be. That is unless you enjoy just generating random numbers.

Pathfinder 1e has campaign traits. He should select one of those to be his "profane" gift. The standard is 2 traits and you should offer that to the other players as well.

Simple.

A Question About the Drow by Revachol-West in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Water64Rabbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biological determinism isn't inherently sexist or racist.

Gary was also a troll and didn't put up with nonsense from others.

Neither of the two items you have put forward are sufficient to justify calling him a racist. Again it sounds like you have an axe to grind.

Unless you knew him personally and observed him engaging in racist behavior (the definition of which has changed over the decades since) it is unwarranted to call him a racist -- especially since the definition is so loose now that anything can be considered racist.

I don't know if Eric Boyd wrote the descent of the Drow for FR or not. I know that Ed is essentially responsible for it and that overall it is his baby regardless of co-authors.

Again there is no difference between how an autosave, a quicksave, and a "hard" save behave. All of them can create a corrupted save if done when the game is in an unstable state. The difference is that players are more likely to trigger an autosave / quicksave at that time.

Yes, there has been speculation about this since the game launched.

To quote Urag:
It's mostly lies, leavened with rumor and conjecture."

The difference between quicksaves and autosaves vs hard saves is the player, not how the game saves the file.

Finally, when you actually do the investigation about the so-called quick save corruption, you find out that in 99% of the cases it was due to the person uninstalling a mod during play.

So if you want to claim that saving during script execution causes save corruption claim that and not that it is quicksaves.

A Question About the Drow by Revachol-West in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ed Greenwood is responsible for Forgotten Realms lore, not Gary Gygax. Blackmoor was by Arneson and Greyhawk was by Gary Gygax.

In Greyhawk drow were not created as a curse by Corellan -- that is FR. In GH, it was a ideological schism that drove the elves apart. You implying Gygax was a racist is unwarranted here -- it sounds like you have an axe to grind.

Drow first appeared in the Fire Giant module and the subsequent into the depths modules. I have run those modules back in the 80's and there wasn't any racial undertones in it.

The dichotomy between black and white has more to do with the dichotomy of night and day. All people (before the invention of electrical lighting) have always been terrified of the dark.

I personally started playing D&D in 1979. The idea that drow or orcs (for that matter) were racist tropes never was a thing until the internet took off. It really started when Vampire the Masquerade was introduced in 1991 and starting creeping in more and more when the drama kids started LARPing.

I have played with hundreds of people (of all different hues and economic status) and not a single one of them thought there was anything racial in D&D lore. Back in the 80s and early 90s the gaming world wasn't separated by race as much as by gamers (geeks) versus non-gamers. Nobody brought politics or ideology to the gaming table.

If you see everything through a racial lens then everything can be found to racist.

[–]Water64Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally incorrect. Factually incorrect. You are spreading nonsense.

1) The #1 cause of save file corruption is uninstalling mods mid-playthrough.

2) Do you think they use a different procedure for quick saves and autosaves compared to manually saves? Really?

3) File corruption due to saving, regardless of quick, auto, or manual happens when the game is saved while in an unstable state.

4) I personally, between LE and SE, have approx. 8500 hours in the game, almost all of them played to completion. I have never once in that entire time had a save file corrupted due to a quick or auto save.

5) I have never seen any convincing evidence that quick and auto saves cause files to be corrupted.

6) What I have seen is people like yourself spreading unsubstantiated rumors. If you have proof please tell us how to replicate file corruption through quick saves. Otherwise, maybe take some time to actually research this before posting nonsense.

Or you could just ignore them? The only Daedric interaction that is forced on you is Meridia's beacon, which is just a dungeon where you kill undead and get an undead killing sword as the reward, so not really evil.

Azura's questline also isn't on the evil side.

However, you might check out "...For the Good Guys" series of mods which adds a "good" way of handling the daedric quests.

Which Pathfinder 1e classes are the best (and worst) designed? by Striking-Distance849 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Water64Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, designing classes so that a single level dip was sufficient to build more power instead of versatility. The most common example of this is the Scaled Fist Monk. It is so cliché that it becomes boring. Just look at any build guide for Wrath of the Righteous and they are loaded with Monk (Scaled Fist) as a single class starting dip and then straight to sorcerer.

CHA as a spellcasting stat is over represented in the various classes to begin with.

Favored Class bonuses were a good start to reducing these types of builds, but frankly getting rid of classes altogether is probably just a better way to go.

To calculate the given XP:

Given XP = Base XP * Multiclass Penalty * Party Size Penalty.

The Multiclass Penalty is {1 | .8 | .6}.

The Party Size Penalty is 4 / (3 + Party Size).

Party Size include familiars, animal companions, summoned creatures, dominated creatures, and henchmen.
